Chapter 445

| was in two minds on whether to change or not. | had an hour before lunch with Jake’s mom and gran. He wasn’t

back yet, and he wasn’t answering his phone. Yes, | had already tried to call Alanna and Carter, and both went

straight to voicemail.

| wanted to know if the kid was okay. | wanted to know what was going on instead of being left in the dark.

Alanna had blockedin so | couldn't drive there, and it would takeat least half an hour to walk.

Could always shift?

| frowned. That was a first for me.

| heard the front door open and close. | grabbed my jacket and purse and headed downstairs.

It was my dad.

“Hey”. | spoke. “Is Jake with you?”

“He’s not. Are you okay?”. He asked.

“Is everything okay out there?”

“Everything is fine”. He nodded. “Jake will be hsoon.

Do you mind if | grab a quick shower?”.

“Is the boy, okay?”. | asked.

“They managed to save his leg but he’s not awake yet. He's resting up at Jake's parents”.

“Is that where Jake is now?”.

“Yeah, everyone is there. I'm going to grab a quick shower before heading back over there.

Everyone but me.

“Okay well I'm heading over there just now. Lock up when you leave”.

“Are you okay?” He asked.

“Yeah”. | nodded. “Are you going htoday?”. Not that | wanted rid of him or anything, but I liked to plan

ahead. | liked to know what was going on.

“I was going to head out later tonight. | can stay if you want?”

Did | want that? Of course, | wanted him around, but he had a pack to run and other family to get back to. He

could visit again, and | could always visit him.

“You should go home”. | spoke. “I'm sure there's people there that miss having you around.

A laugh fell from his lips. “I’m sure they're managing fine without me. You will cvisit, won't you?”.

“Yeah”. | nodded. “That hasn’t changed I still want to meet my family”.

“Great”. He smiled. “That's great. | won't be leaving until dark so we can grab a late dinner before | go?”.

“Sure, I'll see you later.”

| took the short walk to Jake's parents and honestly, | wasn’t sure what to expect. With everything that happened

last night was the lunch still going ahead? Was his gran even here?

Did | knock or go straight in? | shrugged my hand on the door handle | pushed it open. | was early but it was

better being early than late. | walked my way into the house and found Charlotte in the kitchen alone.

Whatever she was cooking smelt amazing.

“Ah, hello sweetheart. How are you?”

| wanted to know where everyone was.

“Is Jake here?” | asked.

“He’s upstairs with Carl. That poor boy hasn't woken up yet”.

“Probably all the trauma and not to mention the meds the doc will have him on. Is he going to be all right?”.

Jake would never forgive himself if the boy never recovered.

“Carl seems to think so, but we need him to wake up”.

“Yeah, everyone is there. I'm going to grab a quick shower before heading back over there”.

Everyone but me.
