Chapter 24: The Confrontation
(Elena’s POV)
The word “child” flashed through my mind like lightning. Oliver Rivers’ face immediately appeared in my
thoughts.
| couldn’t think of any other reason that would make Marcus lose control like this. His accusation about
being ruthless toward a child could only mean one thing.
“I don’t understand what you mean,” | responded with cold mockery, my voice steady despite the burning
sensation on my cheek.
Marcus grabbed my wrist with brutal force. His fingers dug into my skin like iron clamps.
“Did you buy the cake?” he demanded, his grip tightening until pain shot up my arm.
| instinctively tried to pull away, my nose tip reddening from the strain. “I bought it at Sophia's request. What's
wrong with that?”
Marcus yankedcloser until we were inches apart. His golden eyes blazed with fury that made my blood
run cold.
“Oliver is allergic to chocolate,” he revealed, his voice low and dangerous. “That cake nearly killed him.”
The words hitlike a physical blow. My expression becdazed as the implications sank in.
“Sophia never toldabout any allergy,” | whispered, my voice barely audible.
Marcus's face twisted with disbelief. “You're lying. Sophia is his mother - she would certainly know about his
allergies and must have informed you.”
His accusation cut deeper than any physical wound. The certainty in his voice showed he had already decided |
was guilty.
| found myself backed against the cold wall with nowhere to retreat. Marcus’s eyes were dark and sharp like
a sword ready to cutdown.
He had believed Sophia's one-sided story without question. He had never trustedeven once.
My heart trembled violently. Emotions surged like ocean waves, choking my chest with unbearable pain.
My eyes reddened as | tried desperately to explain. “Sophia truly didn’t tell me. | didn’t know about Oliver's
chocolate allergy.”
“I thought all children liked that type of cake,” | continued, my voice breaking slightly.

Marcus's expression remained cold and unmoved. “Do you expectto believe you?”
His words effectively shut down any further explanation. The finality in his tone made it clear that my
protests were worthless.
Without waiting for my refusal, Marcus draggedtoward the pediatric ward. His grip on my wrist r loosened as
he pulledthrough the corridors.

Chapter 24 The Confrent
We entered Oliver's hospital room where Sophia sat worriedly beside the bed. She held Olivers small hand i
both of hers
“Please wake up, sweetheart,” she pleaded softly, her voice filled with maternal concern.
Oliver lay unconscious on the white sheets. Red rashes were still visible on his face and neck from the allergic
reaction.
Marcus pushedtoward the bedside with rough force. “This is the result of your actions.”
| looked directly at Sophia, my voice steady despite my inner turmoil. “Did you mention your son’s chocolate
allergy this morning?”
Sophia's eyes were reddened with tears. She looked up atwith confusion and hurt.
“What do you mean?” she asked, her voice trembling. “Do you want to see Oliver lying in this hospital bed?”
When | tried to continue my explanation, Marcus cutoff sharply. He stepped forward to protect Sophia from
my words.
“Do you still refuse to repent?” he demanded, his voice filled with righteous anger.
“I was unaware of the allergy,” | insisted, my voice growing hoarse from strain.
Sophia played the victim perfectly, her tears flowing freely. “Regardless of any misunderstandings between us,
you should have ctodirectly.”
“You shouldn’t have involved my only child,” she continued, her voice breaking with emotion.
“I truly didn’t know,” | repeated, my voice barely above a whisper.
Marcus pressed his palm against the back of my neck. With firm pressure, he forcedto kneel beside the
hospital bed.
“You'll remain here until Oliver wakes up,” he declared coldly. “Why is admitting your mistake so difficult?”
| knelt for over an hour, my knees aching against the hard floor. Despite the physical discomfort, | refused to
admit to any wrongdoing.
The position was humiliating, but | wouldn't confess to something | hadn't done. My pride was all | had left.
When Oliver finally awakened, Sophia rushed to comfort him.
The boy looked toward Marcus with tired eyes. “Uncle,” he called in a hoarse voice.
Marcus sat on the bed’s edge, his expression softening for the child. “Do you still feel uncomfortable?”
The clever child wanted more attention from Marcus. “I still hurt. Can you stay with me?”
Sophia's eyes sparkled with satisfaction at her son’s manipulation. Marcus nodded without hesitation.
“I'll spend the day with you,” he promised, his voice gentle in a way he never used with me.
