‘So that’s it. He was playing nice at first, now he’s bringing out the heavy guns, Rebecca thought to herself.
Max's gaze stayed cold, his voice as frosty as winter. “I'm not joking. You're not qualified to inherit these shares -
just walk away, it's best for everyone.”
“Whether I'm capable or not-that’s forto decide, not you,” Rebecca replied, her tone calm and unyielding.
“As compensation, if you walk away from those shares, I'll drop 30 million into your account every year,” Max
said, his words landing like an ultimatum. “You'll steer clear of all that family mess, and my life gets a whole lot
easier.”
“I'm after the shares, not the money,” Rebecca shot back, her voice steady-she really meant it.
If Rebecca was after money, she'd have never pushed for a divorce from Jeffrey.
‘For Rebecca, sthings were worth far more than money!”
‘Sthings mattered way more than just cash.
Max's eyes narrowed in confusion. “So what do you want, then?”
“I'm here to reclaim everything that should've been my mom’s-all that she was made to give up,” Rebecca
replied, her gaze unwavering as she spoke each word with fierce determination.
“The Quinn family isn’t nearly as simple as you imagine,” Max warned coolly. “Putaside-you’re not even on
Jack Quinn's level.”
Rebecca couldn't care less about his words. “Anything else?”
“If you really want to get those shares back for your mom, don’t divorce Jeffrey,” Max said, letting his family ties
show for once. “With him by your side, a lot of people won't dare mess with you.”
“That's really none of your business,” Rebecca shot back, getting to her feet.
If she was the kind of person to stay married just for the shares, she would've just agreed back when Jeffrey
asked her to accept Andrea in their life.
In this life, you have to stand for something.
There are sthings you simply have to hold on to-no matter what.
At least for now, she still couldn't let go of what happened back then.
“Rebecca,” Max called out, stopping her.

Chapter 245
Rebecca kept it distant, her voice frosty. “Is there something else, Mr. Quinn?
“If you can, try not to get too close to Jack Quinn. He's a lot more complicated than you think. Max said, his voice
flat and businesslike, just going through the motions.
“Don’t trouble yourself.” Rebecca answered coldly, then turned and walked away.
She hadn’t even taken two steps when she saw Jeffrey coming straight toward her.
Their eyes met.
Rebecca stopped in her tracks, almost without thinking.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtJeffrey, who'd been rushing ahead, stopped in his tracks as soon as their eyes met, slowing down until he stood
just a few paces away from her.
Seeing him again after days apart, Rebecca felt the calm she’d held onto all night slip away, her emotions
flickering in her eyes, impossible to hide.
She had no idea if Stanley had told him the truth.
She had no clue how he’d react to her asking for a divorce.
Max, standing nearby, could feel the tension between them. Realizing they needed to talk, he got up without a
word, grabbed his phone, and went to join Eric and the others.
Before long,
it was just the two of them left on the small patch of grass, standing together under the night sky, the wind
brushing past them.
To Rebecca, it felt like mere seconds passed.
But at the stime, it seemed like a lifethad dragged by.
Jeffrey made the first move. He started toward Rebecca, every step slow and deliberate, unable to take his eyes
off her-as if she were the only person in the world.
After a few steady steps,
he was standing right there in front of her.
His eyes lingered on her barely-there dress. Instinctively, he shrugged off his suit jacket and draped it over her
shoulders, his voice soft and low. “Why are you out here in so little?”
His tone was so easy and familiar-it was almost like nothing had changed between them, like they were still that
sloving pair.
Rebecca just looked at him, not saying a word.
She could feel it-their story was about to end soon.

Chapter 245
“I found out about Andrea,” Jeffrey said, his voice low, taking the first step to address it. “You...”
“I know,” Rebecca replied,
“I'm sorry.” Jeffrey said softly.
Rebecca stayed silent.

Jeffrey looked at her, pressing his lips together. “I'll make sure she pays for what she did. And I'll do everything |
can to make up for what I've put you through.”
At his words,
Rebecca realized Stanley had only told him half of the truth.
He still didn’t know that she was the one who'd truly saved his life.
“Rebecca,” Jeffrey called out softly.
Rebecca replied calmly, “I'm listening.”
Rebecca's voice held no anger, no fire; not even a hint of emotion. She was so calm it made Jeffrey's heart twist
with unease, leaving him feeling uncertain.
Honestly, he'd rather Rebecca yell at him, even smack him, than see her this quiet-like all the life had drained
out of her.
“So, when are you actually coming back to Jelasburg with me? Waiting until you get your mom's shares, or until
Samuel finishes this semester?” Jeffrey finally asked.
“I'm not going back,” Rebecca answered, her voice cool and almost detached.
His eyes darkened, the emotion in them impossible to hide.
He knew she still wanted a divorce.
But-
No way. He'd never let that happen.
“Then I'll stay here with you,” Jeffrey said softly, giving her the space she needed. “Whenever you feel ready to
go back, we'll go together.”
Rebecca looked up, meeting his gaze.
“Don’t even think about divorce. I'm not letting you go,” Jeffrey said, cutting her off before she could say a word.
He had never given up on her before.
Now that he knew Andrea wasn’t the one who saved his life, there was no way he'd ever let Rebecca slip away.

No matter what the future held, he was determined to keep her by his side.

He was going to treat her right, spoil her, love her-make up for every single thing he'd ever done wrong.
Rebecca kept her eyes locked on his.
Her heart was utterly calm; not a wave stirred inside her.
She couldn't help but wonder-would Jeffrey, always so sure of himself, still be this composed, still making all
these plans, once he realized she was the one he'd made those promises to?
“I'll do whatever it takes to help you get those Quinn Group shares. Just try not to stress about it,” Jeffrey said,
feeling more anxious as Rebecca stayed quiet. “Take these next few days to rest at home, alright? You really
need a break after everything you've been through lately.”
Rebecca didn’t respond-she just kept her silence.
Her silence only made Jeffrey more uneasy and made his chest tighten with guilt. He pulled her gently into his
warm embrace, wrapping his arms around her and softly resting his hand at the nape of her neck. “You've
suffered enough through all this.”
At his touch, Rebecca felt a faint, bittersweet ache stir in her otherwise calm heart.
She knew it was tto cclean.
She remembered how good he'd been to her before. Being held in his warm, comforting arms now, she felt a
storm of emotions swirling inside—his strong heartbeat echoing in her ears, her mind replaying every little
moment from the past five years.
But because of all the hurt he'd caused her lately, she wasn’t longing for that embrace anymore-not like she
used to.
After a few seconds,
she pulled herself from his arms, putting space between them.
“Jeffrey,” Rebecca called out, her voice carrying that unique softness only she had—quiet, yet impossible to
ignore.
Jeffrey responded instantly, his tone gentle and attentive. “Yeah? What's up?”
Rebecca met his gaze, her eyes impossibly calm, not a ripple of emotion behind them. “We should get divorced.”
Jeffrey’s heart clenched.
Even though he'd heard those words a bunch of times before, every single tthey landed, it felt like a weight
just crushing his chest. He forced himself to stay calm, masking it all as he replied, “I've told you before-I’'m not
agreeing to a divorce...”
“Stanley probably only told you Andrea wasn’t the one who saved your life,” Rebecca cut in, her gentle voice

sharp as a blade. “But he never mentioned whose place she took.”
Jeffrey froze.
The next second.
Rebecca's voice was steady, every word hitting him like a hammer blow. “She took my place I'm the one who
saved you.”
Almost instantly, Jeffrey shook his head, flat-out denying it.
‘No way. There's just no chance it was Rebecca, he told himself, his thoughts spinning.
He could picture it-the person who saved him had a scar on their thigh, from that day. Rebecca's skin was soft
and pale, perfect, without even a scratch.
‘How could it possibly be her?’ The very idea was just crazy.
