Chapter 266
“Of course, I'll listen to you,” Max replied, his tone cool and unreadable. “But you know what happens if | go easy
on her. If you want Rebecca to deal with the consequences, that’s your call.
Sebastian shot him a look of disdain. “Honestly.”
Max blinked, confused.
‘Did | say something wrong?‘ he wondered.
“You're all grown up, but you still can’t handle a little teasing,” Sebastian grumbled, clearly exasperated. “If |
really wanted you to go easy on her, | would've made them sign the shares over when your dad suggested it
earlier.”
Max kept his face blank. “Yeah.”
Sebastian, growing even more aggravated, snapped, “What, do you only speak if someone pokes you? One word
at a time, huh?”
“Careful before you talk-remember we're family,” Max said coolly. “Don’t accidentally insult yourself while you're
at it.”
Sebastian took a deep breath. “Get out of here!”
Max stood up. “I'm leaving.”
Sebastian didn’t even want to talk to him anymore.
Max knew what Sebastian was like, so he just nodded at Oliver and walked out.
Watching Max walk away, Sebastian groused to Oliver, “All those stories | told him as a kid-completely wasted.
The guy's got zero sense of humor. At this rate, who knows if I'll ever see him bring ha wife?”
“Eh, you can’t force these things, sir. It's all up to fate,” Oliver soothed him.
Sebastian just snorted.
A few more minutes went by.
Still feeling uneasy about tonight, Sebastian told Oliver quietly, “Keep a discreet eye on Rebecca these days, will
you? Don’t let Max or Jack pull any stupid stunts.”
Oliver replied softly, “Sure thing, sir.”
Meanwhile.

Jack had a pretty good idea what Sebastian was up to.

Jack looked over at Rebecca sitting next to him in the back seat, and casually struck up a conversation. “Cousin
Rebecca.”
Rebecca glanced over at him.
“Seriously, you don’t need to worry too much about this test,” Jack said, lounging comfortably in his seat,
sounding totally relaxed. “Max and my dad might try something, but Grandpa won't let them cross the line.

Noticing how distant she was acting, Jack leaned in out of nowhere, closing the space between them.
Rebecca jumped, startled. “What are you doing?”
Jack flashed a slow, lazy grin, his tone downright playful. “Just wanted a closer look at your totally heartless side,
Cousin Rebecca. Maybe I'll figure out how to get you to open up to me.”
Rebecca could only stare, lost for words.
Even though she always kept her guard up around the Quinns, Rebecca never really relaxed for a moment.
But with Jack sitting there, his face all boyish and his hair practically sticking up in every direction, she
unconsciously started to relax a little.
Ever since their first meeting, Jack had always shown respect to both her and her mom.
“So, Cousin Rebecca, am | a little easier on the eyes now?” Jack drawled, his voice lazy-somehow teasing but
impossible to dislike.
“If you've got something to say, spit it out. Just don’t get so close,” Rebecca said, pushing him away a bit. Her
distant expression hardly changed at all.
Jack shot her a cheeky grin before sinking back into his seat.
But barely had he settled in when the car jerked to a sudden stop!
They both lurched forward, momentum tossing them in their seats.
“Daniel,” Jack said, steadying himself and tossing a lazy look at the driver, “if this is your way of vying for the
boss’s spot, easy there-you've still got Cousin Rebecca on board.”
Daniel ignored Jack’s usual antics. “That car up ahead on the right—totally clipped us on purpose.”
Jack rolled down the window to get a better look. Up ahead, a black sedan sat by the curb with its hazard lights
flashing. The driver's door swung open and Jack asked, sounding a little impatient, “You really think it was on
purpose?”
“Absolutely,” Daniel replied.
Jack just shrugged, totally unfazed. “So hit ‘em back.”

Daniel shot him a look. “It’s their fault right now. If we hit them, it’s on us. No need to hand them a lawsuit,
boss.”
Jack just shrugged, still totally chill. “As long as nobody gets hurt, it's just a payout, whatever. | don’t let people
walk all over me, that’s my whole deal.”
Daniel just stared at him, lost for words.
Ever the practical one, Daniel ignored Jack's plan. When the other driver got out and headed over, Daniel didn’t
miss a beat-he opened his own door and stepped out to handle it.
Jack caught Rebecca’s puzzled gaze and shot her a playful look. “You think Daniel's a little too careful with all his
rules, huh?”
Rebecca just stared at him, lost for words.
Rebecca thought, “This is just standard procedure.”
“Don’t you think this is a little weird?” Jack asked, leaning against the car door.
Rebecca looked at him, totally confused.
Rebecca thought, “Weird? What's weird about it?”
“This is a private road. Every car that comes through knows my plates,” Jack said, arms crossed and a cocky tilt
to his brow. “If they've spottedand still went out of their way to run into us, any idea why they'd do that?”
Rebecca caught on right away. “Because of me?”
Jack snapped his fingers. “Knew you'd get it, Cousin Rebecca.”
Rebecca instinctively glanced out the window, but her eyes practically locked in place when she spotted a
woman in a sharp suit standing beside Daniel.
‘Wait-Camille? Rebecca’s thoughts scrambled, barely able to process what she was seeing.
‘How could it be her?’ she wondered, completely floored.
Jack noticed the way her expression changed.
Before Jack could ask, Daniel strode over and poked his head in through the window. “Jack, Ms. Jensen, the other
driver wants to apologize to you in person.”
Jack threw Rebecca a questioning look.
He made it crystal clear: if she was okay with it, he'd let the driver cover; if not, they'd just stick to the
regular insurance process.
Rebecca kept quiet, scrolled through her contacts, and dialed Camille.
The call tone filled the car-beep... beep....

It kept ringing, one after another, with nothing but silence.
Outside, the woman didn’t react at all. Not a single ringtone could be heard.

“Ask her, would she be cool if we crashed into her car and then turned arotirid and apologized?” Jack said,
instantly sensing there was a connection between Rebecca and the woman outside. He tossed the idea to Daniel
with a laid-back shrug.
Daniel replied, “Alright.”
Daniel echoed Jack's suggestion word for word. Camille listened, then squinted past Daniel to the car, but with
the headlights glaring, she could barely make out anything inside. Rebecca, on the other hand, could see
Camille's face perfectly.
Back then, Camille had been just a fresh-faced college grad-innocent, naive, and genuinely kind.
But now? The woman outside was all sharp edges-composed, no-nonsense, and handled everything with silent
efficiency.
Rebecca honestly couldn't believe this was the sperson.
“All done,” Daniel said, hopping back in and starting the engine-businesslike and quick as ever.
Jack gave Rebecca a sidelong look. “You know her?”
Rebecca paused, her gaze lingering out the window. “She remindsof someone | once knew.”
Jack’s brain spun, and he blurted out, “Wait, was that really the driver who caused your aunt's crash?”
Rebecca stared at him, totally stunned.
‘No freaking way he guessed that,’ she thought, her surprise written all over her face.
She never expected Jack to connect the dots so fast.
“Daniel,” Jack drawled lazily, “think our ride can handle a nice little bump?”
Daniel paused, then nodded. “Yeah, it can take it.”
Jack tossed it out as if he was ordering lunch. “Swing around and give ‘em a tap. Just don’t go turning it into a
crscene, okay?”
Daniel, surprising everyone, simply said, “Okay, boss.”
Rebecca hadn't even registered what was going on before Jack swooped in, grabbed her seatbelt and buckled
her in, all while shooting her a wicked grin. “Daniel’s got a bit of a mean streak-seriously, he never lets stuff
slide. He's probably gonna hit a little harder than he should, so we better strap in.”
Rebecca blinked at him, utterly baffled. ‘Is this guy for real?’ she thought.
And in the very next moment-

The car rammed right into the back of Camille’s sedan, sending the rear bumper flying with a crunch.
Camille killed the engine and got out in under two seconds. The moment she realized it was Jack's car, she didn't
even bother with a word-just restarted her own car and sped away, vanishing from sight without looking back.
“Thanks,” Rebecca murmured, knowing Jack was sticking up for her.
Whatever his deal was, at least this time, he'd done it for her.
Jack didn’t say anything else-just told Daniel, “Take Rebecca home.”
