Jack dropped Rebecca off at her place. Before she got out, he glanced at the sandalwood box in her hand.
“Grandpa wants you to wear the ring, but if you ask me, you should probably wait until the shares are officially
yours.”
“What is this?” Rebecca still didn’t know what the box actually meant. But judging from Michael and Peter’s
expressions, it had to matter.
Jack just replied, “Amelia knows.”
Rebecca didn’t press further. She thanked him again and got out of the car.
Jack drummed his fingers twice on the car door.
Rebecca turned, puzzled.
She glanced back at him, her eyes full of curiosity.
“Say hi to Amelia for me,” Jack said, his arm lazily hanging out the window. His eyes glinted with that trademark
carefree smirk. “And, if Grandpa asks, just make something up for me, alright?”
Rebecca just stared back, at a loss for words.
She wanted to ask why he didn’t just cinside himself, but then remembered how they’d been openly cold
toward the Quinns from the very beginning.
Jack was clearly aware of that, too.
After watching his car drive away, Rebecca took the box and went inside, heading up to the study on the second
floor to meet Amelia.
When Amelia saw her cin, she set aside what she was doing, her eyes full of worry for Rebecca. “You're
back. How did it go?”
“It was alright,” Rebecca replied honestly.
“Sounds like they gave you a hard time,” Amelia said, picking up on the gist.
Rebecca didn’t hold back. She told Amelia everything that happened before and after dinner, and summed it up
at the end. “You were right. There aren't many decent people in the Quinn family. Michael didn’t say anything
difficult, but Liam and Patricia were working together the whole time.”
“Michael loves putting on a good guy act for everyone,” Amelia said, clearly familiar with his ways.
‘I still don’t get it, Mom, Rebecca admitted, doubt flickering in her eyes.
Amelia gave her a gentle look. “Hmm?”

Rebecca hesitated, biting her lip. “There's somebody | just can’t see through, she thought, then spoke out loud,

Amelia listened and guessed right away, “Max?”
“Yeah,” Rebecca agreed, nodding thoughtfully. She was still puzzled by him. “Jack said Max, Liam, and Michael
were all involved in what happened to you. But aside from tellingnot to take the shares, Max actually acts
pretty normal most of the time.”
Amelia paused, thinking it over.
According to the intel she had, Max was a cold and decisive guy. Since he took over at Quinn Group, the
company had thrived. Deep down, she honestly hoped he’d prove to be one of the good ones for once.
“Treat him like any ordinary person. Don’t get too close, don’t put your trust in him, but don’t go out of your way
to avoid him either,” Amelia advised, knowing full well that everything she had on Max was basically from
second-hand files.
Back when Amelia left Honnala, Max was only three years old. Michael, worried she might play dirty and use
someone precious against him like he would, had Patricia take Max in and raise him on her side. That left Amelia
with almost no real understanding of the kid.
“Alright,” Rebecca agreed.
Since Rebecca would soon have to handle things on her own, Amelia took the tto give her a few more
reminders.
Before they could get far, Rebecca's phone suddenly rang. When she saw it was Camille calling, she frowned, but
still picked up.
“Rebecca, did you callearlier? Was there something you needed?” Camille sounded just the sas always.
“I was in the shower and didn’t hear it.”
Rebecca's voice was distant. “Oh, really?”
“Yeah, what's up? Did something happen?” Camille asked.
Rebecca hung up.
Camille knitted her brows and shot a glance at Liam nearby; gone was her earlier bubbly tone. “She hung up.
“Well, you already showed her what you're really like. Did you expect her to just keep chit-chatting as if nothing
happened?” Liam replied, casually flicking his lighter. “Once she gets through the ordeal, just show up in her life
now and then. Make your presence known.”
“Alright,” Camille said.
“Get someone with real driving skills to brush up against her car next time,” Liam drawled, leaning back with a
cigarette between his fingers. “Remind her what happened to Amelia, and make sure she knows that messing
with what's not hers is a big mistake. Otherwise, karma’s gonna catch up.”

“Her real dad’s Mr. Guzman. If we go after her out of nowhere, won't that put a target on us?” Camille said,
lowering her voice as she analyzed the situation.
“Seriously, what's there to be scared of? When her husband was Jeffrey, did that ever stop us?” Liam took a long
drag, smirking as he let smoke curl through the air. “Just make sure your crew plays their roles the way | want. |
can stir up things on my end, and soon the reputation of the little princess of the Quinn and Guzman families will
be set in stone—spoiled, ruthless, the whole package. She'll never shake off the label.”
Liam said it all in a few words, cold and direct.
Camille's eyes lit up, catching on instantly.
“Alright,” she replied, plans already spinning in her mind.
“Letknow the day before you make your move. I'll have people start spreading stories about how the little
princess of the Quinn and Guzman families is the darling of both families,” Liam said, his eyes cold with malice.
All he wanted was to see Rebecca's reputation destroyed. “Laying the groundwork.”
“Got it,” Camille replied.
Once they finished talking, Camille sent Rebecca a message, still keeping up the act.
Rebecca shot back a photo of her and Daniel discussing compensation, then added, “Nice acting. Keep it up.”
Camille froze for a second, caught off guard.
Camille was stumped for a moment, unsure what to say.
Rebecca blocked her and put her phone away. Then she walked over to Amelia and shared her concerns. “Mom,
once | officially take over, | want to bring both bodyguards with me. And we should hire two more for the house.”
“Alright,” Amelia agreed. That was exactly what she had in mind.
She knew all too well just how shameless and ruthless Michael and Peter could be.
Having only Mark by her side still made her uneasy.
“Oh, by the way-this is from Grandpa Quinn,” Rebecca said, popping open the sandalwood box and handing it to
Amelia.
Amelia's eyes locked onto the ring inside, and she actually paused for a second. For that old man—the one who
always put sons above daughters-to hand something this meaningful to Rebecca? It was honestly kind of
shocking.
Back in the day, he used to say if he did something like this, the other big shots would laugh him right out of the
room.
“Mom?” Rebecca caught the shift in Amelia's mood.
“It's something valuable. Hang on to it,” Amelia said, passing the box back, relief flickering in her chest. “If you

ever need to look like a big deal, just bring this out.”
Rebecca blinked, a little confused. “Huh?”
Amelia explained, “It's basically the badge of power for the Quinn family head. Walk into Honnala with this on
your finger, and trust me-even folks who don’t know you at all won't dare disrespect you.”
Rebecca's eyes flashed with sudden clarity.
‘No wonder those two freaked out, Rebecca thought.
‘So that’s what it means... she realized.
“Here, Mom, | think this should be yours,” Rebecca said, holding out the box.
“It's not any use to me. You'll find it far more valuable,” Amelia replied honestly. “Sebastian gave it to you for his
own reasons.”
“I get it,” Rebecca answered, no surprise in her voice.
“On one hand, he’s using this to say he messed up in the past,” Amelia continued. She knew the Quinns, no
matter how disappointed she was. “On the other, he knows I'll never forgive him—so he’s hoping to patch things
up with you instead.”
Rebecca pressed her lips together.
Before Rebecca could even get a word out, Amelia spoke to her in all seriousness. “Rebecca.”
Rebecca lifted her eyes. “Hmm?”
“If he’s good to you, then there’s no reason you can’t be good to him,” Amelia said, not expecting Rebecca to
take sides. “Everything that happened back then was just betweenand him—that mess is ours, not yours.
You go ahead and handle things however feels right to you.”
Back in the past, Amelia wouldn't have even bothered saying that.
She always knew the Quinns were ruthless-pure predators, every last one.
But now, Sebastian had finally owned up to his mistakes and genuinely felt guilty about what he’d done. Amelia
might never forgive him, but that didn’t mean Rebecca had to carry that resentment into her own relationship
with him.
