Since Max gave the heads-up, Rebecca walked right into the Executive Office of Quinn Group without a hitch.

Winston brought over two cups of coffee and slipped out, leaving them alone to talk business.

“You've thought it through?” Max asked.

Rebecca nodded, “Yeah.”

Max pushed a document across the desk to her, skipping the small talk. “This is your assessment. Your mission:

revive this company, get operations back on track, and bring in a profit of 3 million. Keep employee turnover at a

normal level-don’t let anyone jump ship.”

Rebecca picked up the file and flipped through a few pages.

The company looked well-organized. Departments were simple, total staff not much more than a few dozen, and

their main gig was building medical systems for big hospitals.

Rebecca thought to herself, ‘I've never dealt with this line of work before.

“Since you never went through any official family training, I'll give you one last chance to walk away,” Max said,

his gaze cold and distant as ever. “Head hnow, and I'll still wire you 10 million a year.”

“Can | hire people?” Rebecca asked.

Max's lips parted slightly. “You can. The hiring guidelines are all in there.”

“So as long as theprofit hits 3 million, the task counts as done,” Rebecca said, snapping the file shut.

Max replied, “That's right.”

Rebecca followed up, “And the day | hit the goal, you'll sell20% of Quinn Group's shares at their original

price?”

Max answered, “Exactly.”

“Got it,” Rebecca said, already sketching out a plan in her mind. ‘Let's see if he actually keeps his promise when

the moment comes,‘ she thought.

Max had Winston see her out. As he watched Rebecca walk farther and farther away, for once his expression

turned grave.

*A few moments later

Max pulled out his phone and dialed Sebastian. “The job's hers now,” he said.

“Good,” Sebastian replied, his faith in Max unwavering. “Just keep an eye on your father and your uncle. Don’t

let them pull any tricks behind the scenes.”

Max reminded him, “By the rules, even if outsiders try to get involved, we can't lift a finger. That's part of the

challenge.”

Sebastian started to speak, but stopped himself.

Before anything else cout, Max continued in his usual cool voice, “That's how it was for me, Liam, and Jack,

too.”

“You boys grew up in the Quinn family, and you're used to dealing with things. But Rebecca... she’s not like you.

She’s a girl, after all, and-" Sebastian said, his tone thick with old-fashioned worry, just wanting her business life

smooth and -free.

“Grandpa,” Max cut in quickly.

Sebastian's forehead creased in concern.

Max coff more serious than ever. “Why not give her a little trust?”

Sebastian held back for a second, then snorted, pretending to be annoyed as he shot back, “You just don’t want

to do anything, huh? Why make such a fuss over nothing?”

“She might not have had any formal family training, but she’s got real drive,” Max said, logically. “Honestly, she

might end up doing an even better job than Jack did.”

“Of course she will,” Sebastian said, torn between affection and exasperation for his grandson. “She’s Kate's kid,

after all.”

“It's not about whose kid she is,” Max countered. “She's capable all on her own.”

When Max first met Rebecca, he remembered seeing that bit of attitude in her-her emotions always written

plainly across her face.

*

The last tat the Hanson residence, she was just as stubborn as ever, sticking to her beliefs, but compared to

their first meeting, she'd obviously matured a bit.

She had that sgrit as someone else he remembered.

“I know you want to spoil her, to prove to Aunt Kate you're no longer stuck on that old boys-only way of

thinking,” Max said seriously. “But real support means trusting her, always being her safety net, and letting her

choose her own path.”

“You think I don’t know that?” Sebastian snapped back, but quietly he took the words to heart.

“You trust her because she’s Kate's daughter-not because she’s Rebecca,” Max pointed out bluntly.

Sebastian fell silent for a moment.

There was a brief pause on the line.

“Take your time,” Max said, wrapping things up. “I've got things to do, so I'm hanging up.”

It took Sebastian a good long while to cback to himself. Reflecting on everything he'd done recently, it

struck him that he'd been trying to make things up to Amelia...

Not really for Rebecca’s own sake.

Rebecca saw through all of this.

But it didn’t bother her. Growing up surrounded by warmth and affection, she’d never lacked love. She could

calmly read everyone's feelings toward her-including all the kindness Sebastian showed-and understand exactly

where it cfrom.

After leaving Quinn Group, Rebecca went straight home. The task file said her official start date was after the

holiday, so as soon as she got home, she messaged HR and requested the team’s resumes.

She spent the next two days holed up at home, poring over every single resume.

One day, while Rebecca was buried deep in the resumes for the product manager and tech director, her phone

buzzed-an incoming call from Jessica.

She picked up, eyes still on the papers. “Hello?”

“Did you pay someone to run news stories about you?” Jessica asked.

‘Huh?’ Rebecca blinked.

Her mind was full of question marks. ‘What news stories?’

“My mom’s media company just got a flood of articles with your nplastered all over them,” Jessica said,

hanging out with Cynthia, scrolling through files on her computer. “You didn’t set that up, did you?”

“Of course not,” Rebecca denied right away. “Why would | do something like that?”

“I thought maybe you were worried Michael or Peter would start trouble, so you decided to put your identity out

in the open,” Jessica said, never one to beat around the bush with her.

“Publicity like that doesn’t doany favors,” Rebecca said, thinking it through. “What's even in those articles?

Are they talking trash aboutor something?”

“If they were dragging you through the mud, | wouldn't have suspected you at all,” Jessica replied, flipping

through a few more. “They're all about the Guzman and Quinn families’ little princess making her grand return,

both families over the moon.”

“Mom says, if you're the one behind this, you'd better pull it back.”

“Big family circles aren’t like showbiz. In Hollywood, bad press is still press. But people like us? The less

attention, the better.”

If that wasn’t the case, Jessica wouldn't have taken the tto call her at all.

A flicker of doubt crossed Rebecca's eyes.

If this publicity didn’t cfrom Sebastian or Mr. Guzman, then who on earth wants my identity splashed

everywhere?’ she wondered to herself.

“Can Aunt Kate's team track down who's really behind these articles? Rebecca asked.

“It’s not that easy. The people who pushed those articles to my mom’s company are from sthird-party

outfit,” Jessica said, a hint of annoyance in her voice. “But whoever's stirring this up clearly isn’t acting out of

goodwill-looks like someone who's got a bone to pick with you.”

“Can you sendthe articles?” Rebecca asked.

“Sure,” Jessica replied, hanging up and sending over all the articles in a single file.

Rebecca went through them one by one. After the third article, she understood exactly why Jessica said whoever

did this was clearly up to no good.

Every sentence painted her as the long-lost princess of both the Guzman and Quinn families, their beloved little

jewel-but the praise was so overblown, anyone reading it would know it was too much.

Almost instantly, she knew exactly where this was headed.

Once these articles started circulating, it was obvious there'd either be fake commenters swarming in, or some

other just waiting to explode in her face.
