Rebecca felt her worries lift a little after hearing that. She asked, “So, what did you do before all this?”
He was tough as nails, easy on the eyes, ran things smoothly as an assistant, and made Meditech work look like
a walk in the park.
Rebecca couldn't help but wonder, ‘Why would someone who's got his act together choose to work as a
bodyguard?’
Just trying to be myself,” Mark replied, a hint of reflection in his tone.
Rebecca stared blankly for a moment, confused. “Wait, what?”
Mark repeated, “Just living like a real person.”
Rebecca quipped, “So what, you're not being yourself these days?”
“These days, I'm your bodyguard, your assistant, and your driver,” Mark said, his thoughts turning to cash again.
He suddenly called out, “Ms. Jensen.”
Rebecca glanced up.
Mark handled the car smoothly. “So, are you gonna givea driver's bonus too? I'm pretty damn good behind
the wheel.”
“Deal, Rebecca said easily. ‘If he’s this capable, paying him extra is only fair,’ she thought.
“Was he just dodging my question on purpose, or did he really not notice?’ Rebecca couldn't help but wonder
to herself.
Mark chuckled. “Ms. Jensen, you're honestly the best.”
Forty minutes later, Mark and Rebecca arrived together at the private hospital owned by the Hanson Group.
Mark arrived with Rebecca.
Rebecca sat in the car for a while before finally getting out and heading inside. With every step forward, she felt
her chest tighten uncontrollably, anxiety building up inside her.
When Rebecca got to Jeffrey’s private floor, she didn’t even step into the room before she could hear Marcus and
Candice Hanson arguing inside. Her heart tightened even more.
“Jeffrey, please wake up for me,” Candice cried out, her voice shaking with emotion.
“All because of that Rebecca! If it wasn’t for her, you wouldn't be in this mess,” Marcus said with fury and blame
dripping from every word.
“Now you're lying here, completely out cold, and she can’t even be bothered to show her face! | just don’t get
how you ever ended up falling for someone so cold and cruel!” Candice snapped.

“Mrs. Hanson, that’s not entirely fair,” Stanley said calmly.

blaming her nonstop.
Sure, Rebecca wasn't perfect.
But she’s also been really good to Jeffrey.
“How is that not fair?” Candice’s voice broke as she spoke, on the edge of tears. “Tell me, am | wrong? Since
Jeffrey got hurt, has she ever cby to see him, even once? All she cares about is money!”
Stanley frowned, his frustration showing.
Candice wouldn't let up, her words quivering. “Back then, Jeffrey was always so sweet and well behaved. Ever
since he married Rebecca, he barely comes home, always so distant with us...”
“If you're set on blaming someone, you'll always find a reason,” Stanley cut in, unable to hold back anymore.
“What has any of this got to do with Rebecca?”
“How could it not be her fault?” Candice retorted, voice trembling. “If it weren't for her, Jeffrey would still be the
thoughtful, obedient son he always was. Even if he wasn’t the smiling type, at least he’d chand listen
to us.”
“Isn't it you two who pushed him to this point?” Stanley challenged, his unusually blunt words showing just how
fed up he was with the elders.
Candice was stunned, caught completely off guard by Stanley’s sudden bluntness.
Stanley’s words really startled her and knocked the wind out of her.
“You guys are the ones who killed his best friend, and you didn’t even bother to apologize or feel bad about it! All
you ever did was use your ‘grown-up’ authority to bully and threaten him,” Stanley said, eyes rimmed red with
emotion. “If it wasn’t for you two, he never would have divorced Rebecca!”
Candice was left speechless, totally at a loss for words.
Marcus's face darkened, his expression turning grim.
“Jeffrey needs his rest. If there's nothing else, you two should leave,” Stanley showed them the door.
“Is this how your father taught you to talk to your elders?” Marcus snapped, his face dark with anger. When he
couldn’t win the argument, he tried to pull rank. “This is my son’s hospital room, and as his parents-"
But Marcus didn’t get to finish.
Stanley pulled out a power of attorney.
He handed it to them. “Jeffrey said he doesn’t want you here. I'm in charge of everything now.”
Marcus's face was flushed with rage, veins bulging on his forehead.

He never expected Jeffrey would go to such lengths.
“If there's nothing else, don’t bother coming back,” Stanley said, still unable to let go of his frustration. “All
you're doing is making each other miserable. There's no real benefit.”
“Stanley!” Marcus roared, his voice echoing with fury.
Stanley wore a cold, distant look, his stance unmistakable-he wasn’t budging an inch. As old wounds got
dragged up again, bitterness welled up inside him.
He strode to the door, swung it open, and basically showed them the door. “Please, the two of you, leave.”
Right as he said that, he saw Rebecca standing outside the door.
Marcus and Candice cover just then.
Everyone's eyes met.
Marcus rounded on Rebecca, his tone sharp. “How dare you show up here!”
Rebecca kept her cool. “If you guys can walk in here, why can’t 1?”
Marcus scoffed, “Seriously, what did Jeffrey ever see in you?”
Rebecca fired back, her expression steady and unfazed. “Maybe I'm just cold as ice. Or maybe I'm just heartless
and vain. Guess I'm every bad thing you've imagined, huh?”
Stanley blinked, totally confused.
His brain just went on pause for a few seconds.
“Wait, is this really Rebecca?’ he thought, utterly thrown off.
“See? | told you she was trouble! Now you finally heard it yourself!” Candice went off the deep end, latching onto
the chance to stir up .
Marcus stared Rebecca down, his gaze almost grilling her as he blurted out, “Did Jeffrey really sign over all his
assets to you?”
“Yes, Rebecca replied, her tone calm and unwavering.
Marcus's breath hitched, his face going even darker.
‘Damn, it’s actually true! he thought, shocked and furious.
He'd always figured the talk about Jeffrey transferring his assets was just nonsense-never thought it could be
real.
“If you know what's good for you, hand everything over,” Marcus threatened, his glare almost deadly. “Don’t
makedeal with you myself.”

“What, like you did when you drove Jeffrey’s friend to his death?” Rebecca shot back, her voice smooth but
suddenly brimming with defiance. “Or you got sother dirty tricks ready?”
Marcus glared like a hawk hunting its prey, eyes locked on Rebecca-cold and ruthless.
“Whatever you throw at me, I'll face it head-on,” Rebecca replied, her tone perfectly steady.
Mark, ever the party pooper, chimed in, “Yeah right, like any of those schemes could even touch you.”
Rebecca blinked, a little stunned. ‘Wait, what?"
Everyone else stared, just as baffled.
“Trust me, before any plotting even gets near you, Mr. Guzman and Mr. Quinn will have sniffed it out and handled
it,” Mark added with a shrug. “Those two are bending over backwards for your forgiveness-and for Mrs. Hanson's
too. They're so eager, they jump at any chance to help.”
Rebecca was absolutely speechless-she seriously had nothing to say to that.
Marcus's expression faltered, his jaw clenching just a bit as he took it all in.
Suddenly, his mind flashed back to when his old buddy gossiped about all the commotion in Honnala, saying the
Quinn family’s granddaughter and Mr. Guzman’s daughter turned out to be one and the same. At the time, he'd
pretty much brushed it off, but now it hit him like a ton of bricks. ‘Wait-no way, is that really Rebecca?’ he
thought, stunned.
“You're...” Marcus started, but before he could finish, Rebecca cut him off.
She turned to Stanley and asked, “How's he doing?”
“Still out cold,” Stanley replied, looking a bit awkward—after all, he'd just been badmouthing her last night.
“Can | go in and see him?” Rebecca asked.
Stanley made an open-handed gesture, basically saying, ‘Doesn’t matter what's up between you and Jeffrey-
wherever he is, you're always good to walk right in.’
Marcus looked ready to call her out for barging in.
But before he could open his mouth, Stanley cut him off. “I've got things to handle, so don’t expectto play
host. You know the way out.”
With that, he swiftly shut the door behind them.
The room fell into silence.
Rebecca walked over, her emotions all over the place as she saw Jeffrey lying there with his eyes tightly shut. He
was way skinnier and looked downright sick-she could honestly feel his energy fading, like he was barely
hanging on.
“How long has he been unconscious?” Rebecca asked.

When Jeffrey first fell unconscious, Gregory rushed him to the hospital, just chalking it up to not eating or
sleeping well. But after two days with no sign of waking up, everyone really started to worry.
Rebecca's gaze landed on his pale face. “What did the doctor say about his condition?”
Stanley answered, “Heart problems need heart cures, you know.”
