“Ms. Jensen's suspicious,” Mark said, all serious.

“Isn't that normal?” Tom replied, way too chill. He thought Mark was overreacting. “If she wasn’t suspicious,
that'd be the real problem.”
Mark just stared at him.
Tom shrugged. “I'm not wrong.”
Mark was discussing business as usual, but suddenly threw in another jab. “You're disrespecting Ms. Jensen. I'm
telling on you.”
“Really? Are you five?” Tom snarked, not missing a beat. “You're a grown man-handle it yourself instead of
tattling like a kid.”
“Alright,” Mark snapped back, sounding crisp and determined.
*The next second, Mark got up and strode right over to Tom.*
*He rose and headed straight for him.*
Tom just blinked, confused. “Huh?”
Feeling Mark's robotic vibe closing in, Tom-who almost never got rattled-finally lost his cool. “What are you
doing? I'm Ms. Jensen's bodyguard, driver, and secretary now. If something happens to me, she'll totally
-ah!”
Tom shrieked in pain.
With a swift professional move, Mark pinned him down in seconds.
His technique was sharp and decisive, not a single wasted motion.
“Dude, are you for real?” Tom grimaced, baring his teeth in pain. “Ow, ow-seriously, let go!”
“This was your idea for dealing with things like adults,” Mark said, face unreadable. “So deal with it.”
“Weren't we supposed to be talking about Ms. Jensen being suspicious?” Tom tried to steer the conversation
elsewhere. “Why are you doing this?”
Mark said flatly, “You were disrespectful to Ms. Jensen.”
Tom opened his mouth to protest, but then saw that stubborn, unfeeling look in Mark's eyes-like arguing with a
robot. He groaned inwardly and finally caved. “Fine, | get it. My bad. I'll apologize to Ms. Jensen to her face
tomorrow.”
Mark let him go.

Like hell I can’t beat him! Sure, | can’t win face-to-face, but if | catch him off guard, this t| gotta cout on

Reality check: even with the element of surprise, Mark had him locked down in a flash. No one’s perfect at

Mark was absolutely out of his league.
“Ahhh!”
“Ow-dammit!”
After another round of pitiful yelps, the room finally settled down.
Tom had to apologize all over again before Mark finally let him off the hook.
“We're just Ms. Jensen's bodyguard, driver, and secretary. Sometimes a little heads-up is plenty-no need to flex,”
Mark sounded like a dad lecturing his kid. “Don’t forget why we're even here.”
Tom rolled his eyes. “Yeah, thanks, Captain Obvious.”
Mark gave him a steady, serious look.
Tom sighed, admitting defeat. “Alright, alright. | just don’t want her falling into any traps, okay?”
Mark paused, thinking it over.
Tom went straight for Mark's soft spot. “She’s only been in this gfor a few months. With all the hats we're
wearing, shouldn't we be giving her more of a heads-up?”
Mark nodded. “Yeah.”
Tom pressed on. “You'd hate to see her get taken advantage of, or get hurt, right?”
Mark shook his head. “No way. She's honestly a good boss.”
Tom knew how to play Mark like a fiddle. “So, shouldn't we be dropping her a few reminders when it really
counts?”
Mark nodded. “Yeah.”
“Ill watch what | say from now on,” Tom said, totally unfazed that Rebecca had already vetted them through the
security firm. ‘Smart move-guess she’s not as naive as she looks,’ he thought. “But you? Seriously, with how you
act like a robot, would any security company in their right mind ever pick you up?”
Mark shot him a look.
Tom scrunched his brows in slight annoyance.
‘What's with that look-like I'm skind of pest? Tom thought, feeling a bit put out.

“I was hired by the security company myself.” Mark reminded him.
“Don’t need you to remind me.” Tom said, leaning back in his chair. “I'm not that forgetful.”

“The security company only asks for a clean record, top-notch skills, and dedication,” Mark said, sounding like he
was the poster child for the job. “They hiredafter | floored ten guys by myself, easy as breathing.”
Tom could only gape at him.
All things considered, the dude wasn’t wrong.
A guy like Mark, with those skills and that dedication, is a hot commodity anywhere.
Mark glanced over. “How’d you get the job?”
“With my killer IQ, obviously,” Tom replied, not missing a beat. “Unlike speople who just muscle their way
in.”
Mark nodded. “So you only had to pass the one-on-one test, huh.”
Tom was speechless.
Tom tried to claw back sdignity. “Look, we each have our own specialty, alright?”
Mark just nodded, totally poker-faced. “Mm.”
Tom shot back, a little smug, “I think circles around you-you're all muscle, no mind.”
Mark replied, deadpan. “Doesn’t change the fact you're pretty mediocre when it comes to throwing hands.”
Tom ground his teeth.
‘What do you mean, weak? I’m not spushover,” Tom thought, feeling seriously offended.
Three bodyguards at once? That's child's play for me.
‘It’s not like everyone can just take on a bunch of guys and not even flinch the way Mark does,’ he muttered to
himself.
“I'm going to bed,” Mark cut him off, not interested in dragging out the argument. He'd always pegged Tom as
the soft type who couldn't fight to save his life, ever since day one. “Ms. Jensen’s got a meeting with the hospital
for Project One tomorrow. Make sure you're up early.”
With that said, he walked out without a backward glance.
Tom was about to say something else, but Mark had already walked out and shut the door, leaving him talking
to himself.
The next morning, Rebecca headed out with them as usual.

Business as usual for the three, except this time, four cars were trailing close behind.

“Ms. Jensen.” Tom said, checking both side mirrors with a frown, “those four cars have been on our tail since we
left.”
“Find out who they're with,” Rebecca handed Mark the job.
Mark quickly checked the plates and ran a search. In under five minutes, he had what he needed: “They're rental
cars. Today's records show they're listed under an employee working for a small Guzman Group subsidiary.”
Rebecca's eyes narrowed.
‘Is this sent by Uncle David's younger uncle-the one Mom warnedabout?’ she wondered.
“Can you lose them?” Rebecca asked Tom.
“You bet,” Tom replied, grinning. He'd been dying to put his driving skills on display, but had held back in case
Rebecca freaked out. “Hang on tight. If | can’t shake them in two minutes, you can dock my pay.”
Rebecca: ‘Wait, what?"
The next second, Tom floored it.
He floored it.
Tom put the pedal to the metal, and instantly the four cars behind them upped their game, sticking tight to his
tail in a full-on pursuit.
But when Tom says two minutes, he means two minutes. He slipped through lanes like a ghost, punched the gas
right as the light turned yellow, and with each slick move, managed to ditch all four cars before the time
was up.
But there was a catch...
Rebecca couldn't help asking, watching him, “Do you always drive like this?”
Tom just smirked. “Told you, that’s just how I roll.”
Rebecca raised an eyebrow. “Letguess, people yell at you for driving like that all the time.”
ffled.
Tom stared, baffled. “Wait, what?”
Mark, deadpan as ever, added, “Honestly, you change lanes like the other cars are extras in your movie.”
“Hey, givea break,” Tom shot back, sounding proud. “I'd never risk it unless | knew it's safe. Nobody gets
hurt when I'm behind the wheel-trust me.”
Mark replied flatly, “You do realize not everyone's got nerves for this kind of thing.”
Tom shot back, eyebrow raised, “What, their weak nerves are my problem now?”

Rebecca glanced out the window, seeing the four cars had disappeared, and let out a little sigh. “It’s not like this
is a first for us.”
Mark gave a dry nod. “True enough.”
Tom just stared, speechless.
Am | really wrong here?‘ he thought, feeling a bit indignant.
Meanwhile, the drivers Tom had just freaked out with his wild lane changes were all swearing in their heads:
Yeah, right! Screw you, you lunatic!”
