Chapter 91
AMELIA’S POV
Walking briskly back to my apartment, the events of the meeting with the queen mother played over and over
again in my mind like a broken record. The anger bubbled up within me, threatening to consme whole as |
thought about Varef's attempts to undermineand manipulate the situation to his advantage.
But amidst the anger, a glimmer of satisfaction began to take root withinas | remembered the outcof
Varef’s scheming. Despite his best efforts to convince the queen mother to turn againston the spot, she had
seen through his lies and shunned him, reaffirming her support forand my position within the pack.
A smile tugged at the corners of my lips as | recalled the look of disbelief on Varef's face as the queen mother
dismissed his claims with a wave of her hand. It was a small victory, to be sure, but one that filledwith a
sense of triumph nonetheless.
For too long, | had allowed Varef’s manipulations and power plays to dictate my actions and control my fate. But
no more. | had proven myself to the queen mother and earned her trust, and | would not allow Varef or anyone
else to undermine that.
As | reached my apartment and let myself in, a sense of contentment washed overlike a warm embrace.
Despite the challenges that lay ahead, | knew that | shall push through in one way or the other.
“You're back, Amy.” Kyla, my maid uttered as she stood up from the stool she was sitting upon before my arrival.
Despite being my maid, she has been closer tolike a sister. There's virtually nothing aboutshe doesn’t
know.
“Yes, | am,” | replied, my voice weary as | shrugged off the weight of the day’s events. My muscles ached from
tension and my mind buzzed with thoughts that refused to quiet.
| glanced over at Kyla, grateful for her presence and the comfort of her familiarity. “Kyla, could
you prepare a hot bath for me?” | asked, my tone soft but urgent. | really needed to soothe my frayed nerves.
As Kyla bustled about, filling the wooden tub with steaming water and gathering fragrant

As | sank into the soothing embrace of the bath, the warmth envelopinglike a cocoon, | allowed myself to
relax for the first tin what felt like ages. But even as | closed my eyes and let the tension melt away, my
mind remained stubbornly fixated on the events of the day.
Lost in thought, I barely noticed as Kyla approached, concern etched into every line of her
face.
“Is something wrong, Amy?” she asked, her voice gentle but insistent while she began to massage my body
while | was still in the water.
I shook my head, forcing a smile onto my lips. “No, Kyla, I'm fine,” | replied, my words ringing hollow even to my
own ears. But Kyla knewtoo well to be fooled by such feeble attempts at deception.
She studiedfor a moment, her gaze piercing and knowing.
“You don’t have to pretend with me, Amy,” she said softly, her voice filled with understanding. “I know when
something's bothering you.”
And in that moment, | had no choice but to open up to her.
“You caughtright there, but it’s fine. I'll be okay after the bath.”
“If you say so.” She sighed. “Did Varef bother you again today?” She asked, changing the topic. This girl, she just
knows how to reach me.
“He tried but | didn’t let him get to me. Kudos to the queen mother’s assistance.” | replied honestly. The bond
between | and Kyla was so special forto lie to her.
“I wonder when he'll get it in his head that you both can’t work.” She proceeded to masage
left shoulder while I played with the flower filled water, enjoying the treatment.

“You know, | saw my mate earlier today.”
But as | mentioned seeing my mate earlier that day, the atmosphere shifted, a tense silence settling between us
like a heavy fog. | watched as Kyla’s eyes widened in shock, her hand freezing mid-massage as she processed
my words.
“You...
... you saw your mate?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper as she struggled to comprehend the
magnitude of what | had just revealed. “Are you... are you serious? You're not joking, right?”
I shook my head, my gaze fixed on the swirling patterns of the water as | recounted the encounter in my mind.
“No, Kyla, I'm not joking,” | replied, my voice tinged with a mixture of uncertainty and excitement. “I saw him
earlier today, while | was out on patrol.”
Kyla let out a gasp of disbelief, her hand slipping on the edge of the tub as she recoiled in shock, wincing in pain
as her knuckles collided with the hard wooden surface.
“Ow!” she exclaimed, rubbing her hand gingerly as she regained her composure. “Sorry, I... | just wasn’t
expecting that.”
| reached out to grasp her hand in mine, offering her a reassuring squeeze. “It's okay, Kyla,” I said softly, a smile
playing at the corners of my lips. “I know it’s a lot to take in.”
She nodded, her eyes still wide with awe as she leaned in closer, eager to hear every detail of my encounter with
my mate. “Telleverything,” she urged, her voice filled with excitement. “What did he look like? How did it
happen?”
“It was on the mission | went for earlier. The order was to meet the Beta of Moon Shadow and do as instructed.”
“So, you didn’t know he was your mate before going?”
“No, | didn’t. But | had a notion about it given the actions | was to perform.”
“Hmmn, how did he look like?”
As | began to describe my mate to Kyla, the memories of our encounter flooded back to me
with startling clarity, each detail etched into my mind like a vivid dream.
“He was tall and imposing, with broad shoulders and a powerful presence that commande attention,” | began,

shining with an intensity that seemed to pierce straight through to my soul.”
| paused, allowing the image of him to linger in the air between us, the memory of his gaz burning bright in my
mind's eye. “And his smile,” | continued, a wistful smile playing at the corners of my lips. “It was beautiful.”
“That's like a knight in shining armor. Those ones in fairy tales.” Kyla joked and I chuckled.
But it wasn't just his appearance that had captivated me; it was the way he had madefeel from the moment
our eyes met.
“When | saw him, it was like everything else faded away,” | confessed, my voice filled with wonder. “It was as if
the world stood still, and there was only him and I, drawn together by sunseen force that defied
explanation.”
| could feel the heat rising in my cheeks as | recounted the rush of emotions that had washed overin that
moment, the overwhelming desire to be near him, to touch him, to lose myself in the depths of his gaze.
“And when he spoke,” | added, my voice barely above a whisper as | relived the memory, “it was like music to
my ears, each word a symphony of sound that stirred something deep within me.”
As | finished recounting the details of our encounter, | could see the awe reflected in Kyla’s eyes, her own
imagination running wild with the image of my mate. “He sounds... incredible,” she breathed, her voice tinged
with admiration.
“He is,” | agreed, a smile spreading across my face as | allowed myself to bask in the memory of him once more.
“He’s unlike anyone I've ever met, and | can’t help but feel drawn to him. It took all innot to go against the
order | was given.”
“Did you guys talk? Did he tell you his name?”
“No, we didn’t get to talk and | doubt we'll ever have the chance to.”

“What do you mean?” Kyla was confused.
“You'll understand as tgoes on.” | forced a smile. Though, | tell Kyla about everything, | can’t tell her about
my missions. It’s against the rules and telling her would be dangerous.
