Chapter 338

Rachel’s eyelashes fluttered, but she did not say anything.

David’s dark eyes stared at her without blinking. There was an imperceptible sharpness in his smiling

gaze. “From the moment you stepped into this door, you’ve already imagined all the possibilities in your

heart, haven’t you?”

Seeing that Rachel did not speak, David bent down and carried her horizontally. He strode towards the

bedroom.

The lights in the bedroom were not switched on, and the curtains were not drawn.

The night sky could be seen through the full–length windows in the room.

The dim light accentuated his well–defined face.

Rachel lay on the bed and pulled the blanket to her chest. She could vaguely hear the sound of David

taking off his clothes. Then, the spot behind her sank for a moment before a strong arm hooked around

her waist.

They were so close together that Rachel could feel his leg muscles.

David noticed that the woman in his arms was too stiff, and he could not help but chuckle, “Don’t worry,

I won’t do anything to you.”

He knew Rachel wasn’t quite ready.

The reason she took the initiative to come today was probably because of the guilt in her heart.

Although he wanted to possess her, he knew that this was not the time to take advantage of her.

Moreover, he felt that he had taken advantage of her enough today.

David pulled her into his arms and placed his hand on her abdomen. He rubbed his thin lips against her

temples. “Go to sleep. Don’t you have to go to work tomorrow morning?”

Rachel felt the warmth of his palm, but she could not fall asleep no matter what.

In the darkness, David suddenly asked, “Can’t sleep?”

Rachel hesitated for half a second before replying faintly, “It’s probably because I sleep on a different

bed.”

“Do you want to watch a movie?”

“Is it a real movie?”

A low laugh escaped David’s throat. He pressed his lips to her temple and whispered, “Make a guess?”

He was probably sleepy. His deep voice was slightly hoarse. When he spoke, his lips seemed to be

caressing her earlobe.

Rachel could not help but tighten her grip on the blanket. She suppressed the thought in her heart and

pretended to be calm. “Don’t all men have that kind of fetish?”

“Wait for me.” David lifted the blanket and got out of bed.

After a while, he found a romance movie, The Shape of Water.

Set in 1963 during the Cold War in the United States, the film followed the bizarre love story between a

mute girl, Eliza, who worked in a lab on the ground floor, and a mermaid for experiments.

The final two characters successfully escaped the lab at the end of the movie, and the female lead

even developed gills behind her ears.

However, Rachel did not feel much.

She couldn’t help but ridicule herself in her heart. As expected of a mature woman, she wasn’t touched

at all. It was also possible that she was as cold–blooded as others said, so she wasn’t touched.

“I will go against my nature and my instincts. I will love you forever,” David said.

Rachel frowned slightly. She lowered her eyes and did not dare to meet the man’s gaze. “Why are you

talking about this out of the blue?”

David continued, “This phrase is from the British evolutionary theorist Richard Dawkins’s ‘The Selfish

Gene‘, which means that people are born selfish but can go against their selfish nature to love

someone.”

“I don’t know how to describe love. I only know that the moment I see you, my heart is set in stone.” As

he spoke, he buried his head deep in her neck, his arms tightening around her waist. “Rae–Rae, I love

you,”
