Chapter 404: Privacy

"So, how do we move?"

The entire gang was gathered in old Mr. Thorne’s living room, everyone present except Aiden, who was still on

his way.

Ewan sat on the ssofa with Athena, posture straight, his voice firm as he finished briefing the gang about

the entire matter.

Susan leaned forward, tapping her fingers against her knee as she spoke. "We can divide ourselves into two, our

men too. Our trackers have confirmed the location that Athena talked about... we just need a little more tfor

the exact place where they kept Ciara's family."

Athena excused herself quietly, rising from the sofa and slipping into the smaller sitting room next door. She

pulled out her phone, dialing Antonio.

"Heyyy, beauty. How are you doing?"

"I'm fine, thank you. How are you?"

The small talk flowed easily, Antonio’s light tone tugging a smile from her despite the heaviness in her chest. He

was trying to distract her, to take her mind off the storm swirling in the state.

"Are we still going to the cinema today?"

Athena palmed her forehead, suddenly remembering. She had slotted that tinto the hours she’d already

reserved for the lab and the cure.

"Athena..."

"Yes." She muttered softly. "It’s still on. But | won't be staying long."

"That's okay," Antosaid warmly. "The movie isn’t that long, anyway."

Athena tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, lowering her voice, getting to the main reason she had called him.

"So, about the tracker you mentioned... were you able to reach him?"

"No. Maybe he changed lines? | haven't been able to contact his brother either. But I'll keep trying."

"Okay. Thank you, Antonio. See you soon."

She ended the call, patting herself on the back for keeping the frustration out of her voice. But it simmered

underneath, sharp and restless.

Her phone buzzed again. She had pinged her data connection before making the call, and now realized that she

had been added into a new group chat.

Relief loosened her shoulders when she saw which one it was—her children’s small circle in the black web. Their

ntags lit up the chat, already sending her greetings.

She smiled, thumbs flying as she responded. Immediately, she dropped a message of her own: a query on the

matter at hand—Ciara’s troubles alone.

She becaware of a presence in the room, a shadow of someone standing too close. Ewan.

"Are you okay? You left abruptly..."

"Yes," she said, slipping the phone down a little. "I had to confirm from Antoif he finally was able to get his

tracker to cooperate."

"And did he?" His brow furrowed as he tucked his hands into the pockets of his well tailored navy blue trousers.

Athena shook her head. "But | was able to get into the children’s small circle in the black web." She opened the

group and handed the phone to him.

"This is good..." he muttered, eyes scanning quickly—until his expression shifted, hardening into a scowl.

Curious, Athena leaned closer, peering over his arm. A flicker of unease twisted in her stomach as she realized

Antohad sent her a message: a picture and a text.

She watched, like in a trance, as Ewan tapped on the message without hesitation, while she watched and did

nothing. Later, she would wonder why.

Why she hadn't taken the phone from him; why he had felt the need to see the message; why he was at ease

operating her phone; why he bothered breaching her privacy if he was really a gentleman.

But for now, at the moment, she allowed Ewan to click the messages open, mildly surprised at the contents.

A picture filled the screen—Antonio, lounging in his office, shirt unbuttoned to reveal his toned chest, smiling

sexily into the camera.

Ewan cursed under his breath before he could restrain it, voice low and sharp. "Bloody twat."

The word snapped Athena out of her haze. She snatched her phone, eyes narrowing at him, catching the steel in

his glare. "You don’t address my fiancé that way."

Ewan’s frown deepened, jaw tightening. "Fiancé? | didn’t hear of an engagement."

"You will soon hear of it. And next time, | suggest respecting my privacy."

"Of course. | am sorry." The apology scraped out through his gritted teeth, his heart twisting painfully inside his

chest. His eyes, however, betrayed the storm behind them.

"Do you send him pictures too?" His voice was quiet, but the bite in it was undeniable.

"That's none of your business. Even if | send him nudes."

Ewan'’s eyes widened a fraction, but his face stayed composed as Athena swept out of the room.

He cussed, when he was alone, fists clenching, and slammed them into the nearest sofa head. Once, twice,

again. His knuckles stung, but the ache in his chest was worse. Finally, remembering where he was, he sagged

back into the seat, head falling against the cushion.

He shouldnt have opened the message. He shouldn’t have given in to his damn curiosity. It would have been

safer for him, safer for whatever fragile thing he still shared with Athena. Now he had disrupted it again.

"Are you okay?"

Sandro’s voice cut into the silence.

When had he come?

"No, Sandro," He muttered wearily, running a hand over his face. "I am not okay. | don’t think I ever will be."

Sandro stepped closer, resting a reassuring hand on his friend's shoulder. "Theals everything."

Ewan let out a bitter laugh.

He reminded Ewan of his own words earlier, dragging him back to the reality at hand.

"Yes, that’s true." Ewan pushed himself up with a sigh, shoulders heavy. "Have any of the trackers given us a

location yet?"

Sandro shook his head. "But Athena says we'll be getting information in the next ten to twenty minutes from her

friends on the web."

Of course. Ewan thought. His

The thought of his children softened his face, a faint smile breaking through, easing the rawness in his chest.

"Let’s get going then," he said, moving toward the door. "Oh, now | remember—YVictoria. Has she been

behaving?"

"Behaving?" Sandro snorted. "That woman is a demon from hell. Are you sure Athena needs us to keep her as a

hire?"

Ewan only shrugged. "As | said before, if Victoria messes up, she will be put out."
