Chapter 1005

“Let me tell you something,” he began, his voice filled with mischief. Whenever I was out with these buddies of

mine, lan would never answer my calls. He would just hang up on me. But recently, because of all the ruckus in the

Raymond family, he decided to pick up the phone. But I can bet you, he won’t show up here. He’ll call in less than a

minute.”

No sooner had he voiced this prediction than his phone began to ring. It was indeed lan calling.

Ryan didn’t pick up. Instead, he bumped his shoulder against Maja’s in a friendly nudge.

“See, he never calls me first. But now, he’s panicking.”

Ryan then hung up on lan right in front of Maja.

But in less than a few seconds, lan called again.

Just like Ryan had said, lan was indeed panicking.

Ryan kept hanging up, but this time, lan sent him a video call request.

Ryan nearly dropped his glass of whisky. He knew lan was desperate, but he didn’t expect him to be this desperate.

Ryan was a bit scared now, worried about what might happen when lan eventually showed up.

He quickly turned to Maja.

“If my cousin decides to mess with me, you’ve got to help me out, Maja. I’m doing all this for you. To show you how

much my cousin cares about you. If he didn’t like you, why would he go this far? I’ve heard he’s in a meeting right

now. I guess he must have put it on hold.”

Maja didn’t believe this. So, Ryan handed her his phone.

“If you don’t believe me, call Jeff. Ask him what my cousin is up to.”

Maja didn’t make the call, afraid that her hopes might be too high, leading to disappointment later. That would be

embarrassing.

But Ryan dialed Jeff’s number for her.

Maja, forced into this situation, had no choice but to take the phone and ask, “Jeff, what’s lan up to?”

Jeff glanced at the man who was constantly on the phone near the floor–to–ceiling window and then at the

executives waiting inside the conference room. He replied softly, “He’s at a meeting, but he’s currently on the

phone. That’s why he didn’t pick up your call.”

Jeff didn’t know what was happening and assumed Maja had tried to call lan first, and when he didn’t pick up, she

decided to call him.

So lan was indeed in a meeting.

A wave of joy surged in Maja’s heart. She asked softly, “Is it an important meeting?”

“A third of the Raymond Corporation’s executives have left, and a lot of new people have been promoted. This is

the president’s first meeting with the new executives. It’s important. But I guess whatever call he’s on must be

more important. Probably negotiating a deal?”

Maja’s lips curled up into a smile as she looked at Ryan, whose phone was still being bombarded with video call

requests from lan.

Ryan was sweating profusely now, scared of how persistently lan was calling him.

He was so frightened that he didn’t dare to pick up the phone.

In fact, he was considering throwing his phone in the trash and running away.

One of his friends reminded him, “Your phone has been ringing for so long. Why haven’t you answered it yet? It’s

going to run out of battery soon

Frustrated, Ryan turned off the phone.

Maja ended the conversation with Jeff. After hanging up, she felt a pat on her shoulder from Ryan.

“My cousin will be here soon. Wait for him in the booth. I’m going to hide in the bathroom for a while. When you

guys leave, remember to send me a message.”

“lan can’t be that terrifying, can he?”

Maja’s voice was sweeter when she asked this.

“Heh, not to you. Anyway, I need to hide now.”

Ryan quickly disappeared.

True to his words, Ján arrived at the booth fifteen minutes later. The moment he walked in, he spotted Maja and

strode towards her.

His appearance frightened the young men who were still rolling dice in the booth. Everyone knew of lan’s reputed

temper.

lan pulled Maja up and marched her out of the booth, his voice icy.

“Come with me.”

Maja didn’t resist. Once they were in the corridor, she asked, “Weren’t you in a meeting?”

“Hmm.”

He led her down the dimly lit, alcohol–scented corridor filled with the scent of expensive perfume.

Just as lan was about to turn a corner, he felt Maja leaning against him.

He stiffened, thinking that the dizzying environment was causing him to hallucinate.
