Chapter 1047

Clara and Drew had never imagined they would find themselves in such a luxurious establishment. The gentleman

had told them that the net worth of the average patron here was at least billion dollars, a figure they had never

even contemplated in their lives.

As they walked in, they were greeted by the sight of a grand mansion, an expansive swimming pool, and a

sprawling golf course stretching out into the distance. They were simple folks from a small county with no

knowledge of golf. They merely marveled at the scenic hills, far more beautiful than the ones back in their village.

The gentleman had them working in the kitchen, with their not–so–youthful looks, and they wouldn’t be allowed to

serve in the front of the house, a privilege reserved for the young and attractive

Clara and Drew remembered the gentleman’s instructions.

Tonight Maja would be here, and their task was to cause her utmost embarrassment. After all, their daughter didn’t

acknowledge them anymore. Only by making a huge scene would they scare Maja enough to extract a few million

out of her, providing them with a life of leisure and luxury.

The thought of such wealth brought a gleam to Clara’s eyes. To her, Maja was a walking gold mine, and she could

not let this golden opportunity slip by. “Maja, stay right there! Why don’t you come to greet your father and me?”

Clara called out.

Maja frowned, realizing that someone must have arranged for them to be there. She turned around yet refrained

from harsh words due to the results of the paternity test. In Windhelm, blood ties could be a tricky affair.

Clara, dressed in the uniform of the house staff, and Drew, in a security guard’s outfit, looked decidedly out of place

amid the elegantly dressed guests. Unfazed, Clara began to berate Maja.

“We still haven’t settled the score for throwing us out of your company. While you’re here enjoying this fancy party,

do you know where we slept last night? Under a bridge because the hotels here are too expensive, and you were

unwilling to arrange accommodation for us. Maja, you’re so heartless! I nearly died giving birth to you.”

She threw in the bit about her traumatic childbirth, hands on hips, displaying the classic posture of a shrewish

woman.

The partygoers all stopped to watch the unfolding drama, viewing the central figures as nothing more than clowns.

Clara continued to berate Maja, who finally snapped, her voice icy, “Are you done?”

Clara expected Maja to feel humiliated and leave in anger, but instead, she retorted. This felt like a direct challenge

to Clara’s parental authority. Angered by the memory of being thrown out of the company, Clara fought back.

“You’re an ungrateful child, unwilling to help your brother who is in jail. Are your father and I supposed to live under

a bridge at our age? Look at her, everyone. Don’t do business with someone like this!”

The people attending tonight’s event were all influential figures. Such a public spectacle would usually make the

party involved feel humiliated, but not Maja.

While Clara continued her tirade, Maja simply averted her gaze, “You claim I’m your daughter, yet all you want is a

million dollars and for me to get my incarcerated brother out. Even others who want to use me at least try to

disguise their intentions. You don’t really believe blood ties are some sort of valuable commodity, do you?”

Clara didn’t quite grasp Maja’s words. She fell back on her old tactics and sat on the floor, “Maja, we came all this

way. If you don’t give us an answer, we’re not leaving!”

No sooner had she finished speaking than Mia’s voice rang out, “Who dared to make such a scene at a Haskins

family event? How disrespectful.”

Although Mia was afraid of Maja, this seemed like an excellent opportunity to put her in her place. After all, this was

the Haskins family’s event. What could Maja do to her?

Moreover, tonight, lan was here with Judith. Most of the guests assumed they were a couple and would soon be

getting married. After all, Judith had always been referring to lan as her husband.
