Maja was unfazed by the news, but the rest of the Sanders family was abuzz with gossip. After all, when the others in the
Sanders family had tied the knot, their compatibility was always thoroughly vetted by astrology, and only with favorable stars did
they proceed. Back in the day, when Augus and Cynthia had called it quits, it was all because their stars didn’t align. Juliet, with
her hands clasped in front of her, spoke in an even tone, “So Maja, you can’t be with your boyfriend. We suggest you break it
off.” Maja’s eyelashes fluttered, her voice firm, “Grandma, I don’t believe in superstition.” The room fell silent at her words. Beck
tried to catch Maja’s eye, hoping to signal her, but then he thought better of it. He knew her well enough, and he knew Ian too.
These two had weathered so much to be together, and they weren’t about to split over for a couple of words. He chose silence.
Tomas Sanders’s voice filled the room, “In the Sanders family, belief isn’t a choice.” Ian immediately stepped in front of Maja, a

smile on his face, “Well, Maja doesn’t have to be part of the Sanders family.” “Is that so? But she has Sanders blood in her veins.
Perhaps she should change that blood and drain it all out. If she does, we won’t hold her to anything else.” The words were a
death wish for Maja. Ian’s expression darkened, shielding Maja completely behind him. “Are you saying you want Maja’s life,
Grandfather?” Tomas set down his teacup, his voice softening, “You’re the one threatening her life. Just leave her, and she’ll
have the whole Sanders estate to herself. She’ll be my most cherished granddaughter. Mr. Raymond, you’re already in enough
trouble. Don’t get mixed up in the Sanders family business.” Maja gripped Ian’s hand and stepped aside so everyone could see
her, “I’m afraid I can’t do that. I’m carrying his child. I’m with him for life.” The hall fell silent once more, with the Sanders family
murmuring amongst themselves. Tomas’s brow furrowed, silencing the murmurs. He looked down, his expression sharpening,
“It’s not just you and Ian who can’t be together. The astrologer has predicted that your child will be a curse to the Sanders family.
The child cannot be born.” Ian’s eyes blazed, but Maja caught his wrist before he could speak. “Okay, Grandpa, Grandma, but
this is a big decision. Could you give me a couple of days to think it over?” Tomas seemed surprised, probably not expecting her
to say that, but he nodded after a moment. It was then that Juliet spoke, “Maja, we know this is hard, but believe us, we love
you.” Maja offered a smile, holding Ian’s hand as they walked out. The hall was eerily quiet, even the whispers were faint.

Beck followed them out and only when they were in the car did he take a deep breath. “Are you out of your mind? You’re not
seriously considering getting rid of the baby, are you?” He turned to Ian, “Speak up, Ian! I’ve always thought you were a jerk, and
now when Maja is considering an abortion, you don’t say a damn thing.” Despite Beck’s heartfelt pleas, Maja remained silent all
the way to the underground fight club. Once inside, they both methodically showered and had their clothes burned. They
switched phones and underwent a full-body scan. Beck, who had also been checked for bugs, was finally allowed into the main
bedroom on the seventh floor, utterly confused. “What’s all this about?” he asked, seeing Maja’s furrowed brow. Ian massaged
her shoulders, “Did you find out something big?” Maja’s face changed as she nodded slowly. Beck was even more confused and
sat down beside her. “What secret? Stop keeping me in suspense.” Maja took a deep breath, grateful for Ian’s unwavering
support. She had spoken out against the Sanders family, had stayed silent on their journey to the fight club, and had immediately
gone to change clothes and phones without a word of protest from him. His trust comforted her, almost to the point of tears. “The
two elders of the Sanders family are impostors.” At that, Beck slapped the table, “Impossible! Maja, stop talking nonsense.”.
