Cornelia brought a tray with four dishes to Zoey's room.

The room was still occupied by Elvis and Wilma, who hadn't left yet.

Cornelia had to leave by evening, so she quickly explained things to Zoey.

"lI won't have any days off for the next month, and the doc says you can start chewing ssoft stuff. Wilma and | will help you sit

up. You know, it's kinda awkward for Elvis, being a guy and all."

At that moment, Elvis coughed twice and gestured toward the corridor, "Maybe | should step outside for a bit."

Wilma's eyes darted mischievously as she grabbed his arm.

"Uncle Elvis, I'll keep you company."

With that, she desperately winked at Cornelia.

Cornelia knew Wilma had a crush on Elvis and had been chasing him, but the poor thirty-something dude was clueless.

She rubbed her temples and sighed, "Why don't you both step out then?"

Wilma, thrilled, rushed forward, grabbed Zoey's hand, and smacked a couple of tic kisses on it.

"Cornelia will feed you, Zoey. I'll cback in a bit."

Then she hustled Elvis out the door, leaving him slightly uncomfortable.

Zoey, however, didn't say a word as Cornelia helped her sit up.

Her throat was still sore, so she could only eat bland food.

"I bumped into Fitch and Ms. Bennitt in the elevator just now, they were all over each other."

As she said this, Cornelia watched Zoey's expression carefully.

Zoey couldn't speak without pain, so she just quietly ate, lashes lowered.

Cornelia's heart ached; she'd been burned by love before and didn't want Zoey to fall down that spit.

"Zoey, this might sound harsh, but you saw what happened towith Omar, right? Lost everything. You've worked so hard to get

where you are, and | don't want you to ruin it. That Bennitt family, they're bad news."

Cornelia suspected the recent troubles might even be their doing. Wendy's eyes had daggers in them, especially when it cto

Fitch.

Though it was tough love, when Cornelia looked down again, she saw silent tears streaming down Zoey's face.

Her voice blocked by bandages, Zoey could only mouth a few incoherent words.

Cornelia's heart clenched, but she forced herself to be firm.

"I checked your phone records. You called Fitch the other night, but he was at the hospital with Wendy. Heard she was poisoned—

by your mom. Your mom's been taken into custody, and we don't know yet how the Haskins and Bennitts plan to handle it. But

given Mr. Raymond and Ms. Pennyfeather's influence, our company should be safe. They'll only cafter you. Be extra careful."

Cornelia wouldn't be around for the next month, off filming on location, unable to watch over Zoey.

Zoey nodded slowly, continuing to eat.

Cornelia grabbed a tissue and gently wiped Zoey's cheeks.

"The one who saved you wasn't Fitch. | asked the hospital. It was the Millers who brought you in, probably Carol."

Zoey blinked, acknowledging with a nod.

After eating a little more, she felt drowsy.

Cornelia helped her lie back down, "Just rest up here in the hospital, okay? Elvis can handle the business for now."

Cornelia had grown up fast. She felt a kinship with Zoey, understanding her dedication to the company and to Maja.

They both saw Maja as a benefactor.

Cornelia didn't want trouble for Maja or for Zoey.

But matters of the heart were complicated. If Zoey was determined to dive in, no one could stop her.
