Chapter 314

As people drifted away, Carlene, wanting to show her care for Dana, personally escorted her to the car.

lan stood frozen, eyeing Maja. He then started slowly moving toward her, causing her a bit of unease.

As lan moved closer, he lowered his gaze onto her.

She slightly lifted her eyes. Their desire completely fading as if last night’s tenderness was a mere

illusion.

“Penny.”

He softly called her by her name, wanted to say something more, but saw Carlene returning.

“lan, breakfast is ready; you must be starving, Connie; let’s grab some food.”

Seeing lan and Maja so close, Carlene’s alertness shot right up, and she quickly strode over.

“Penny, I’ve sent Dana home; we’re looking into the spiked drink thing. Now that she’s apologized, I

hope you won’t hold a grudge.” It kind of sounded cocky.

But Maja didn’t plan on holding onto that; she was kind–of–peckish.

She didn’t have dinner last night, and now she felt like she’d been doing hard labor in a dream for a

long time; she was really hungry.

She answered nonchalantly, then pulled the still–stunned Connie.

“Shall we go eat?”

Connie, coming back to her senses, was a bit scared. Connie was still young and never had a

boyfriend; she just wanted to curl up into a ball right

now.

“Sure.”

Hearing Connie’s answer, Maja headed downstairs.

Connie thought for a moment, then turned back to say, one thing.

“lan, Carlene, come join us.”

lan stood still, watching Maja’s attitude, completely different from last night; a hint of confusion flashed

in his eyes.

What was she trying to imply?.

Once downstairs, Maja sat down; a waiter pushed a food cart over.

Maja glanced out the window; those tanks filled with expensive seafood were all gone.

She felt a bit regretful, and she went to bed early last night and didn’t even get a chance to taste them.

Connie sat next to Maja, placing the food the waiter handed over in front of her.

“Penny, you must be starving, have some food.”

Maja sighed, “What a waste; I only had a small dessert last night and didn’t get to eat the seafood

before I knocked out.”

Connie’s hand stiffened, thinking, weren’t you too busy with lan to eat?

But she didn’t dare to voice it out. She just brushed it off, saying, “That’s really a pity; there were still

loads of good food.”

She invited Maja here because of the food, and they were way better than what high–end restaurants

offer. It was also to thank Maja for helping her with the painting.

But who could’ve guessed? She accidentally handed lan over.

Connie wasn’t sure whether she should regret it or feel relieved; after all, lan now had Carlene; they

had a decent relationship, plus a wife about to divorce.

If Penny and lan were together, they’re bound to face many difficulties. Unless they were just in a

friends–with–benefits type of relationship.

But lan wouldn’t do that, would he?

After thanking them, Maja just picked up her knife and fork to cut the steak when she saw lan and

Carlene walking over; it seemed like they were planning to sit at her table.

Maja was a bit confused; what was lan up to?

Carlene’s face had darkened. Maybe they were going to discuss Greenfield Gardens?

But it wasn’t really the time to discuss renovations.

Despite her confusion, when they approached, she still politely nodded.

“Mr. Raymond, Ms. Shepard.”

Carlene forced a smile, clinging tightly to lan’s arm, her heart filled with resentment.

She initially planned to go somewhere else with lan, but he walked straight here, not giving her a

chance,

lan sat opposite Maja, seeing only a piece of steak in front of her; he grabbed a glass of milk from the

food cart and pushed it toward her.

Maja’s hand stiffened; she suddenly felt a bit panicky.

“Thank you, Mr. Raymond.”

“Penny.”

When lan called her, he didn’t avoid anyone.

“What were you thinking?”

He didn’t need to avoid anyone. He remembered last night clearly.
