Chapter 946

When Maja got to the company, Cornelia was already there.

She had someone check the surveillance around the company, looking for suspicious vehicles.

Alma had some experience causing car accidents before, and it was likely she’d use the same trick again.

Sure enough, her guys reported back soon. There was a big truck parked about 200 yards from the company since

the afternoon in a place where trucks never usually parked, the area was all office buildings.

Maja had one of her bodyguards dress up in Zoey’s clothes, complete with a mask and hat, pretending to be Zoey,

and had Cornelia get in the car with the bodyguard.

This bodyguard was the best driver in all of Rosewood Manor. He’d lead the truck onto a bridge, where the car

would plunge into the river. Zoey would pretend to be rescued, and Cornelia would just disappear into the river.

And so the plan was set in motion.

The car had barely gotten far when the truck started tailing them.

Even though the car was about to plunge into a river, Cornelia wasn’t scared at all. She trusted Maja, and she

trusted Maja’s people.

The car drove all the way onto the bridge, and the truck finally found its opportunity.

The car crashed through the guardrail and into the water.

Cornelia hadn’t been in the water for long when she was quietly rescued.

Zoey was waiting by the side of the river, already used to this kind of thing. She’d had a similar experience with

Maja before. So she pretended to faint by the water, and the rescuers would find her soon. The bodyguard would

swim a few hundred meters out before disappearing, as planned.

Sure enough, the car accident was reported again.

Omar had people tailing Cornelia, and when he found out she’d been in the car too, he rushed to the scene.

The rescue team lifted Zoey, who had collapsed by the water, onto an ambulance, but there was no sign of

Cornelia.

Omar stood on the bridge, hearing the piercing sound of sirens around him, looking really pissed.

“What do you mean, you can’t find anyone? You found one, didn’t you? Keep looking; find the other one now!”

Cornelia wasn’t a good swimmer. She’d been bullied in high school when Alma took her spot, she even pushed into

the school pool and almost drowned.

She’d been afraid of water ever since.

Cornelia never told Maja about this, choosing to go along with Maja’s plan despite her fear.

An hour passed, and Omar, seeing no sign of the rescuers finding anyone, dove into the river himself.

“Mr. Omar!”

“Something’s happened! Mr. Omar’s jumped in!”

Omar swam around in the icy water for a bit, shouting non–stop.

“Cornelia! Cornelia! Where are you?”

In the end, his voice was almost hoarse.

Everyone knew that if someone hadn’t been rescued after an hour in the water, they were pretty much gone.

And the river was so wide and deep, who knew if she’d sunk to the riverbed or been swept somewhere else.

Omar swam in the river for two hours, finally crawling onto the shore, exhausted.

“Keep looking! Keep looking for her!”

He even kicked one of his guys, scared they weren’t moving fast enough.

But three hours had passed, and the rescue team was recommending hiring locals who lived by the river and

specialized in retrieving bodies.

People drowned in this river every year, whether by suicide or car accidents. All in all, about two people died here

each year.

So, a unique profession had sprung up here: body retrieval.

The rescue team was responsible for saving people, not retrieving bodies. It was already dawn, and they still hadn’t

found anyone, so they were making the suggestion sincerely.

But Omar’s eyes turned terrifying, and he grabbed the man by the collar.

What did you say? Retrieve bodies? Are you saying Cornelia’s dead? She won’t die, even if you do! Keep searching!”

They continued the search from night to noon the next day, attracting quite a few reporters and onlookers.

Omar stood quietly by the river, watching the boats search for the missing person without saying a word.

Suddenly, Alma appeared behind him, sounding quite smug.

“Bro, how’s it going? Didn’t I say I’d leave Maja all alone? Look, I took care of another one.”

Omar stiffened, his voice hoarse. “Was it you again last night?”

All Alma knew was that someone was dead. She thought it was Zoey, so she nodded without hesitation.

Yes, it was, You lent me some of your guys, right? They were driving the truck. I didn’t even have to pay this time”

Alma watched the retrieval team on the river, feeling incredibly satisfied.

“Bro, you really spoil me. That woman is definitely not surviving this time! It’s been several hours.”

The very next second, her neck was being squeezed tight.

“When did I ever tell you to do this?”
