Chapter 460
The sudden kiss left Sylvia too stunned to fight back.
It wasn't until Rupert deepened the kiss that her senses snapped back. She didn't care that her hands were still
covered in soapy bubbles-she raised a fist and swung.
But, infuriatingly, Rupert was always a step ahead. Before her hand could land,
his fingers wrapped around her wrist and pinned her arm behind her.
It forced her body closer, pressing her right up against his chest.
She glared up at him, meeting his gaze.
His eyelids were half-lowered, his eyes dark and unreadable, his lips harsh but tinged with longing.
Furious, Sylvia jerked free, twisting her wrist from his grip and shoving him away. Her nose stung. She took a
deep breath to swallow down the ache in her throat. "Why do you always do whatever you want?" she
demanded.
"Who's really doing whatever they want?" Rupert shot back coldly, twisting the siring on his finger. "You
mess with me, and then what? Run off to mess with someone else?"
Sylvia couldn't win against him. Her voice was bitter. "Say whatever you want." She turned, ready to leave the
kitchen.
But suddenly, a strong hand gripped the back of her neck, hauling her back and pinning her against the fridge.
Ignoring her struggles, Rupert cupped the back of her head and kissed her again, rough and possessive.

His breath was hot and uneven against her ear, growing more heated by the second.
She dropped her gaze and murmured, “Uncle Rupert, your engagement party's only a few days away."
Rupert paused. He lifted her chin, forcing her to face him.
Their eyes locked. His lips curled in a cold, mocking smile.
"So what? You being here changes nothing."

Sylvia's face had gone so pale she looked almost transparent. The soap suds dried on her hands, leaving her
palms dry and sore.
She pressed her lips together, searching his face, and finally asked what had haunted her for so long: "Why did
you go to Norway to save me? And before that, why did you cforat the mining camp? Did you rescue
Just to keeptrapped in this humiliating place?
She couldn't bring herself to finish the sentence.
Rupert narrowed his eyes, leaning back against the kitchen island, and silently lit a cigarette.
His eyes were like an icy lake-calm, remote, impossible to read.
He looked at her, and Sylvia's heart skipped a beat.
"Sylvia, this is about the Garcia family," he said quietly. "Just do as | say."
The room spun. Sylvia gripped the fridge for support.
It felt like he'd carved her heart out
with a knife, over and over, and yet
she felt no pain-only that she was bleeding out from the inside.
Just then, voices sounded from the hallway.
Sylvia drew a shaky breath, forcing herself to the sink to finish the dishes.
But as she lowered her head, tears spilled, falling into the soapy water.

But before she could touch the water, someone grabbed her wrist.
"You're bleeding. Careful, or you'll get an infection."
Sylvia snapped out of it and turned. It was Lester.
He frowned at her red-rimmed eyes, dabbing her hand dry with a paper towel, saying nothing.
“Reese, is there a first aid kit? Sylvia needs shelp," Lester called.

Sylvia blinked quickly, flustered. "I think I'm just a little allergic to the dish soap."
