Chapter 1609

“I was getting an earful from my mom,” she said with a sigh of relief, “you’re a lifesaver for calling me.”

“Why was she upset?” Kevin asked, surprised.

“You know, the usual. Menopause.”

Estelle sipped her coffee, glancing but at the moonlit lake through the window, Hearing Magdalen’s words, she

turned and raised an eyebrow at her. “You only visit them once a week, and you still manage to upset her?”

Magdalen chuckled, “You sound exactly like my dad! I only see her once a week, shouldn’t she cut me some slack?”

With a sarcastic smile, Estelle shot back, “Are you going through menopause, too?”

Kevin turned to Estelle, “You sure have a way with words, Estelle.”

Looking back at Kevin, Magdalen said, “If you think Estelle is easy to push around, you’re in for a big surprise!”

Kevin smirked, “Then I’ll make sure to stay on her good side!”

“Good thinking.” Magdalen agreed with an exaggerated expression. “If you can win Estelle’s friendship, you’re in for

great life!”

“Is that so?” Kevin grinned, “Well then, Estelle, you’ll have to look out for me from now on!”

Estelle merely smiled and turned to Magdalen, “Have you ordered yet?”

“Six dishes should be enough for us!” Magdalen handed the menu to the waiter and replied.

The waiter nodded politely and suggested, “Might I recommend our homemade plum and osmanthus wine? It’s

quite popular”

Kevin chimed in, saying, “I tried it last time, it’s pretty good. Let’s get two pots for the three of us.”

“Excellent choice. Please wait a moment, the waiter replied before leaving the table.

As they waited for the food and wine, they enjoyed the small appetizers and candied fruits on the table, chit-

chatting and laughing.

Most of the conversation was between Magdalen and Kevin, with Estelle quietly sipping her tea.

As Kevin spoke, his eyes were fixed on Magdalen, reflecting the flickering candlelight. Estelle couldn’t help but think

he had feelings for Magdalen, while Magdalen appeared to be unaware of this.

A knock on the door interrupted their conversation. Two waitresses walked in, carrying a four-tiered box of pastries.

Once opened, the table was adorned with a variety of pastries, their delicate designs almost too pretty to eat.

They had everything from almond cookies to apple tarts, date cakes, and crab puffs, just about every pastry you

could find in J City.

“I didn’t order these, Magdalen remarked, puzzled, “did you guys send these?”

The waitress promptly replied, “These were ordered by Mr. Lamont.”

Magdalen suddenly realized, and her eyes gleaming as she exchanged a knowing glance with Kevin, “Looks like

we’re benefiting from Ella’s partner’s thoughtfulness today!”
