The police ignored his protests entirely, ordering their men to drag him out without another word. Harry fought back wildly, yelling
and kicking up a storm, but it took a hard boot to the ribs to finally shut him up.
Everyone else looked on in stunned silence, hardly daring to breathe.
Once the officers had hauled Harry away, Vivian slipped off to a quiet corner and called Eugene. “Mr. Winters, it's done!”

Sylvia finally breathed easy. “You're a lifesaver. Tell me—how should | thank you?”
Eugene's voice dropped a shade deeper. “Anything at all?”
She hesitated, then laughed. “Dinner’s on me?”
He chuckled—a low, warm sound that made Sylvia's heart skip a beat.
“Stop laughing!” she grumbled, flustered.
He let his laughter fade, then said gently, “Tomorrow you can share the good news with Amy. She can finally go home.”
“Will do. Thanks again.”
