Chapter 348: A new assistant? Jessica's eyelids fluttered lightly and slowly she opened her eyes, with the morning light still shrouded in the dark cloudy sky.

It is no doubt she had woken earlier than usual. She glanced at her side, and just as she wished, Davis was sleeping peacefully.

Several files on the nightstand, and at the centre was the centre table and his laptop with sfiles on it. "It seems he stayed back in the room to work?" she mused.

Otherwise, nothing could explain the reason why these documents should find their place in the bedroom.

Her gaze settled on his face as she noted the strains and tiredness on it.

She stretched out her hand and massaged it lightly. "He must be quite tired." She made a mental note to seek out smedications that will help him cope with the stress.

Taking a trip down the memory of events that happened yesterday, she let out a helpless breath. Yesterday had drained her so much that she slept off in the car and didn't wake up again until this hour.

A glance around the room and she noticed the untouched food, which, if she wasn't mistaken, had probably been served last night.

She isn't surprised that they had remained there. With Davis' character, he probably had Deborah reheat and serve the food over and over, and in the end, he might have her keep them waiting for when she would wake up, but then she had slept until this morning.

Taking a look down, her clothes had been changed to something much more comfortable. She rubbed her temples lightly.

"I really passed out yesterday," she muttered.

She shook her head with resignation and lay back down, her gaze on the ceiling as she took a mental glance at her schedule for the day.

While still lost in her thought, she didn't notice Davis waking up until he had his arm wrapped around her waist while he carefully pulled her closer.

"What are you thinking?" "Nothing in particular, just thinking about a few things waiting to be done." Davis sighed. "You are already at the end of the second trimester," he murmured.

Jessica nodded, lifting her hands to her belly. "Tflies." His gaze settled on the bump, which was now visible that it could no longer be hidden from plain sight. "Shouldn't you give yourself srest?" Jessica nodded. She was really grateful they had gone this far, but the issue of securing another rest... "That wouldn't be necessary. To be clear, I needed to exercise more at this time." Softly, she caressed the bump. "Also, I think after visiting the hospital, I will have to reconfirm the due date." Davis' hand slid down to caress her baby bump. "Davis, will you stop? It's ticklish." Davis paused briefly, a low smirk on his lips. "Why haven't I discovered you are quite sensitive in this area?" Jessica glared at him and sat up, her countenance turning serious. Davis laid on his side, his head resting on his hand, his gaze never leaving her face.

"I am visiting the countryside," she quipped.

She wouldn't have bothered him with such a trivial matter, but then she felt it necessary to inform him since it will be a long trip.

He readjusted is position slightly "Must you go today?" Though he already had the response in his heart as he took in the countenance of her face, but he couldn't help not asking.

"Davis, smatters need to be handled promptly," she said, taking a deep breath.

This was her decision. She needed to sort out the problem of identity before taking a trip to the Santiagos' for the banquet.

And aside the testing centre, her grandmother at the countryside had sexplanation to do. She must have known one or two things about her.

Davis nodded lightly. "Then, let's go together." Jessica shook her head. "You don't have to go with me. Besides, there is a lot for you to handle with your recent takeover," she explained.

Davis hesitated briefly. He still had a lot to say. But then, just like she said, there are smatters that need to be taken care of.

"Alright, you have to be careful," he said.

Leaving the bed, they both prepared for the day. Together, they went downstairs for breakfast.

As they stepped out of the house, two different cars were parked side by side.

Jessica walked over to hers, and Davis walked over to the other. Standing beside their cars, they bid each other farewell.

Slowly, each of the cars pulled away from the compound.

Davis arrived at the Allen Group. He took the elevator and arrived at his office with Ethan in tow, with Ethan informing him of his schedules for the day.

At the end of his statement, Davis took a deep breath. "Any report about Aaron's whereabouts?" Davis asked. Ethan shook his head briefly. "No, but I have gone through a few reports from immigration. He is still within the country, since there is no report of him leaving the country." Davis rubbed his temples in frustration. It still baffles him how Aaron had disappeared overnight, even before the guards could get to him.

He couldn't help wondering what ghe was playing.

Yet, another thought pulled at his heartstrings-"Could there be another person helping him behind the scenes?" "Be on the lookout for him," Davis added.

In as much as Aaron couldn't be found, he remains a variable factor that could disrupt every plan he had, and even the security of his family isn't guaranteed.

Hence the reason why it gives him much concern.

Ethan nodded as he turned around to leave the office. He paused and turned back. "Someone applied to be your assistant." Davis' hand faltered and paused briefly as he looked up to meet Ethan's gaze. His gaze was both inquisitive and suspicious.

"Have you seen the person?" he queried.

Ethan nodded in affirmation. "I have, and from his credentials," he paused as though searching for the right word, "he met the requirements, but then it seems he is a freshman." He reported while giving him a folder containing the details of the young man.

"A freshman?" he asked as he leaned back on his seat, tapping his ballpoint pen on his head lightly. "Yes," Ethan quipped.

Recalling the brief moment he had taken to meet the young man yesterday before the close of work.

He had hoped maybe he would go hand not return, but surprisingly, he had arrived earlier than they did. "He will soon be here," Ethan informed before he spun on his heel to exit, but Davis' voice halted his steps. "Picked by you or the Human Resources Department?" "Posted from the HR," Ethan answered. He couldn't help wondering how swift the HR has been in assigning an assistant to Davis this time.

Davis nodded. "I see," he murmured to himself.

Ethan noticed the hesitation in his voice and was about to chin a word but paused. He gave a brief instruction.

"He can only handle the official matters during work time, and every other previous and sensitive matter remains in your care." Ethan nodded. "I understand."

He had already given it a thought. Knowing how sensitive the situation is for Davis at the moment, he knew that such duties will definitely fall on him. But then, he felt pity for himself. He was quite sure he would be burdened.

"I will bring him over right away," Ethan said.

Davis nodded just as his mind swirled with several thoughts as he contemplated his decision.

He wouldn't have moved Ethan away with from himself to another position, but then, with his capabilities, he is the only one to trust with the office of the operating manager. Within a brief moment, the door clicked open and Ethan stepped into the office with a young man in tow.

Davis looked up and met his gaze. His brow furrowed as he stared at the young man before him, carefully taking note of his features.

A tanned skin, well-toned muscles, distinct facial features with a pointed chin, tall and handsome.

An air of indifference with a coldness that seems to be emanating from his bones.

Given an option, Davis wanted to ask Ethan, "Which family's young master had he brought in to be an assistant?" "Alright, Ethan, you go back with him and train him for stime. He needs to get a hang of how things are done." "For how long?" "Three days should be enough for the basics, and the rest he picks up as he works," Davis said.

Ethan had been efficient in carrying out his duties, but then he had learned under Davis right from his first year after he left school.

Their relationship had grown within the period due to his dedication to work and Davis's willingness towards guiding him properly on the hang of getting the work done. Ethan left the office with the young man and returned to his own office.
