Jackson left.
Soon after, Jennifer cin. “Stephanie, did Mr. Hodge lose something? Doesn't it seem like he’s trying to rip
you off?”
Now, Jennifer looked at everyone as if they were all trying to cheat Stephanie.
Stephanie replied, “Do you think everyone's like Catlin?”
Jennifer was silent. She was only worried about her!
Their stuhad been open for almost two years, and they'd never had so many visitors before.
Catlin had been carted out yesterday, and today Jackson said something valuable was missing from Stephanie's
office.
Jennifer couldn't help but think that someone was out to get her boss.
Stephanie continued, “He really lost a ring-judging by its quality, it should be worth nearly three million.”
Jennifer was taken aback by Stephanie's reply.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtNo way-could someone really be trying to scam Stephanie?
Lost a ring worth of millions in the office after being here? Jennifer would think it was a scam if it wasn’t obvious.
“I have a feeling he’s trying to swindle you, Stephanie. Don’t be too naive about people.”
Stephanie shot back, “Don’t be so cynical, or you'll never get a boyfriend.”
Jennifer froze for a second. ‘Was that too cynical? she wondered.
Who in their right mind would visit someone’s hand then lose something worth tens of millions?
It had to be intentional.
“Enough about that, geta cup of coffee,” Stephanie commanded.
Whether or not she was actually swindled, the key was that no one could really pull one over on her.
As long as she didn’t try to scam anyone herself, that was all that counted.
Sebastian had gotten drunk last night and had given her a hard time; she was still a little woozy.
Jennifer nodded and left.
When Stephanie was left alone, her phone buzzed incessantly.
It was Sebastian calling.
She answered, “Sebastian.”
“Has Jackson left?” chis deep, somewhat intimidating voice.

Sebastian asked, “What about the bracelet?”

Thank goodness she had returned it; judging by his tone, if she hadn't, she'd be in deep trouble.
“Now, what did | tell you?” Sebastian pressed.
“Never accept a man’s gift. | didn’t accept it.”
Stephanie's reply was quiet, tinged with a hint of sadness.
Sensing Sebastian's seriousness, she quickly added, “I really didn’t accept it.”
“Good girl,” Sebastian said.
Stephanie couldn’t help but roll her eyes.
She wondered, ‘Is ‘good girl’ still an appropriate term for me?”
“Does that mean I'll never accept a man’s gift? I'm all grown up now.”
Her tone carried a hint of testing.
Even though Sebastian had no other woman by his side, she had matured.
And after last night....
Just the thought made her cheeks flush.
Although Sebastian claimed to remember nothing from last night, Stephanie still wanted to test his intentions for

After she finished speaking, the line fell silent, and Stephanie felt her heart tighten to the breaking point.
About five seconds later, Sebastian spoke up, “Tell me, Stefi, how does it feel to keep a man’s gift?”
“Huh? I've never kept one!”
For heaven's sake-in all her years in Long Harbor, she truly had never accepted a gift from any man.
“Didn’t | buy it for you?” Sebastian pressed.
“Um...” She was confused.
“What does it feel like?” he demanded.
Stephanie was at a loss for words.
The question had cso abruptly that she couldn't even process it.
