Chapter 187 Never Been Kissed, Never Held Hands During her months with the Davis family, Penelope grew increasingly aware that Lily and her son were the most restless, the most hidden within the Davis family.

They also had the most motive... to want Mr. Davis Sr dead! "I know who it is. Lily and her son, I'll deal with them sooner or later," Kelvin responded, "They won't get the chance to hurt you." Penelope gazed at him, "You're known for making quick and decisive moves without sparing feelings, yet you've repeatedly indulged Lily and her son, never really settling the score. Is it because of Grandpa Davis's sake?" He said, "No." "Then why?" she asked.

Kelvin's face took on a reluctant expression.

Penelope felt her palms sweat, damp with nervousness.

Bringing up these issues in front of him was risky. One careless word could drag Mr. Davis into the conversation.

And the death of Mr. Davis Sr has always been off-limits for Kelvin.

After a pause, Kelvin finally softened and spoke up, "It's because my father, on his deathbed, madepromise to look after them." So that was it! What did Mr. Davis Sr say? Penelope was curious, but... she didn't ask.

If Kelvin wanted to share, he would. If he didn't want to talk about it, no amount of prodding would get a word out of him.

"All of this is in the past now." Kelvin's chin rested on her shoulder, nestled by her neck, "Penelope, do you want to hear about it?" Penelope feigned indifference, "...up to you." "You... you really do want to know, but you're too stubborn to admit it." Kelvin's breath tickled her neck, causing an instinctive urge to pull away.

But he held her tighter.

"I've never talked about this with anyone, not even Grandpa," Kelvin's voice was low, "Not just on my father's deathbed, the day before the accident, my father had a secret talk with me." "A talk?" she asked.

"Yes," Kelvin continued, "he wantedto give half my share of the company to Lily and her son for free." Penelope was surprised, "Half? That much?" Kelvin continued, "Yes, but I refused. My father was adamant; therefore, we had a big argument about it." Penelope felt a tightness in her chest; she was getting closer to the truth.

In a wealthy family's power struggle, it's all about control and money! She tentatively asked, "Do... Lily and her son know about this?" "Only my father and I knew. He usually had nothing but frowns for Lily's good-for- nothing son, always telling him off for being useless.

"Grandpa, on the other hand, would often defend him, saying everyone has their fate, and withcarrying the Davis family name, it was enough. As long as Lily's son stayed healthy and out of trouble, that was all that mattered.

"Who would have thought, the very next day, my father would die in a car crash? Life is so unpredictable." Hearing this, Penelope felt a sudden wave of sympathy for Kelvin.

But she hardly pushed that feeling down.

Once, Penelope had read somewhere that the highest form of loving someone is to ache for them.

She found herself aching for Kelvin, and that wasn't a good sign! Penelope bit her lip. "So... Lily and her son probably prefer Grandpa Davis? They must feel like he's the one on their side, supporting them." "Yes," Kelvin nodded. "Lily picks fights with Dad now and then, and her son steers clear of him too." She asked, "Before your father's car accident, had he seen anyone?" He replied, "No, he was just at henjoying speace after Lily went to stay with her folks." The more Penelope heard from Kelvin, the more she sensed something was amiss.

Did Lily happen to go to her parents' house the day before Mr. Davis, Sr.'s accident? It was also the day before the crash that Mr. Davis Sr had discussed with Kelvin giving up half of his shares in the business! Her mind was swirling with more and more thoughts.

Unbearably complex.

And Kelvin's lips seemed to be heading downward.

"Don't..." Penelope shivered, "Kelvin!" He buried his face in the crook of her neck again and said, "I'm just teasing; I won't touch." After last night's commotion, he wanted her to rest properly.

The feeling of being able to look but not touch was certainly frustrating.

While Penelope was troubled by the quest for truth, she swatted his hand away in annoyance, "If you're so full of energy, go find someone else." Kelvin frowned, "Don't talk nonsense." In his life, it would only be her he wanted, only her he touched.

Other women couldn't catch his eye.

When Penelope looked at him, something else cto mind. "When you were with Fiona..." Her heart suddenly felt sour.

Just the thought of him and Fiona being intimate was unbearable for her.

Not to mention, she had once walked in on them in bed together.

"Stop overthinking." Kelvin's voice broke into her thoughts. "I never touched her. What you saw at Riverside Apartments was a setup. I was drunk and didn't do anything." Penelope knew that the incident was a farce.

But still...

'Had they never kissed? Have they never held hands? Fiona was so into Kelvin; had she never tried to seduce him when they were alone? Was he not tempted?' The more she thought about it, the worse she felt, and the harder it becto control her downward-spiraling thoughts.

But Penelope didn't want to ask, not wanting to seem like she cared, so she just muttered a noncommittal "Oh." "Penelope, are you jealous?" he asked, a hint of joy in his tone.

She denied it immediately. "I'm not." Kelvin chuckled lowly, having already seen through her little thoughts.

"I really didn't touch her," Kelvin said. “No kiss, no hand-holding, nothing inappropriate." "Why should that matter to me?" Penelope tried to rise from her seat, but Kelvin held her down firmly.

With every attempt she made to move, he pressed harder.

Penelope felt like a mouse trapped under his grip, squeaking in protest.

But he seemed to be getting a kick out of this.

"Kelvin!" Penelope exclaimed, "When will you quit it?" She didn't dare to push him with too much force, worried about aggravating the injury on his hand.

Taking advantage of her concern, Kelvin shamelessly held her in his embrace! Normally, Penelope would never have let him hold her so calmly and still.

"By the way, when are we heading back to LA?" she inquired. "What time's the flight?"

Given that Kelvin had call this way, it seemed inevitable that she'd be going back with him. "We can leave anytime. Have you been to the United States before?"

Penelope shook her head: "I had planned to cover aftec om graduating from college, but then..." Then life took an unexpected turn.

"How about I show you around the city?" Kelvin offered. "Let's enjoy ourselves for a few days before we go back to LA." "Enjoy ourselves?" she said, in disbelief.

Kelvin had always struck her as a workaholic who never took a break, even on weekends.

And now, he was proposing a vacation? It was almost like a fairy tale where the king ceases to rise early for the kingdom...
