I lay in bed staring up at the crescent moon all night long. Sleeping in the room
that was next to Reuben’s was already distracting me, especially when we were
only separated by a wall. Whenever I closed my eyes to sleep, Reuben’s words
echoed in my mind again and again.
“There is nothing between Ella and I.”
“We are fiancee only on paper.

I rested my hand over my crazy heartbeat as I sat up on the bed. Why was I not
able to forget it? He has to be lying to me. The news of his marriage was all over

eyes, yet my wolf was suddenly calm after Reuben’s earlier claim. I had felt
sincerity in his claim that he did not love Ella.
‘Lonly want you…’ his words echoed in my ears as my heart started to drum in
my ch*st again.
“No… stop thinking about it,” I buried my face in my hands and wanted to
scream.
The whole night, I had been struggling with diving into different pools of
emotion that had been raised by Reuben’s claim. I was torn between the
betrayal of the past, trust, and the present. The night felt as long as a year yet I
had not managed to catch an hour’s sleep.
With the first ray of sun, I got up from my bed, stripped out of my clothes, and
went for a run in the woods. To help keep my emotions in check, I let Ceri out. I
had to let my wolf out otherwise I was going to go crazy with all the thoughts
that I continued to turn over in my head.
Ceri ran so fast it seemed like she was riding the wind. We had missed the
greenery here so much. This was the first tI had let Ceri out in too many
months to count. Back in Britain I had to be cautious. Shifting in your own
territory was one thing but shifting in while in random woods was far too risky.
If someone would have spotted a white wolf in the woods then it would have
been huge news and incredibly dangerous for us so I had hardly shifted in the

I passed the small bridge and entered another part of the woods. I was familiar
with every corner of the Emerald Bright Pack territory including the woods. I had
spent. sof my most formative years here after all. Enjoying the greenery, I
ran for hours until I reached deep into the woods, ending up in a place that was
normally avoided by wolves in the pack.
Slowing my pace, I glanced at the large sacred cave where I had only been once
before. It was the place where the rejection ceremony was held. Since it was

I immediately turned around and decided to leave with quick steps but just as I
turned a black wolf blocked my path. Reuben shifted into his human form and
