Chapter 519

Agnes furrowed her brows, her voice unconsciously laden with reproach, “Why did you have to go so hard on him? I

know you and Sean used to be in the intemational special forces, but he’s just an ordinary guy. Couldn’t you have

been a bit gentler?”

Kearney found it both exasperating and amusing, “Septima, the guy was trying to hurt you and here you are

worrying about whether he’s injured?” Agnes fell silent all of a sudden.

She hadn’t expected Jared to get so worked up.

Because of Jared’s reaction, Agnes was even more certain.

She absolutely couldn’t let Jared find out about Nocturne.

If he did, it would certainly lead to a nasty fight, and Agnes wasn’t sure she could win.

Keamey dropped Agnes off at the Pritchard family’s villa./

As the car came to a stop, Kearney spoke up, “You gonna be okay here on your own? Want me to stick around

tonight?”

Agnes shook her head with a smile, “I know you’re busy. Go on home, this is my place, I’ll be fine.”

Kearney nodded, “Call me if you need anything.”

Agnes got out of the car and headed towards the villa.

Kearney drove off.

The only thing she took when she left was the key to the Pritchard family’s villa.

She turned on the lights.

Over the years, even though she was in Manhattan, she had prepaid twenty years‘ worth of utilities before she left.

As the lights blazed on, Agnes felt a touch of disorientation.

No one had set foot in here for four years.

All the furniture and floors were covered in a layer of dust.

Agnes took slow steps into the house, climbing the stairs.

With each step, a footprint appeared in the dust.

A window in the hallway had been left open when she left.

That wall was already covered in ivy.

Four years had passed, and the vines had crept into the house, spreading layer upon layer.

Even the white marble railing on the staircase was unrecognizable.

The vines were like traces of the past four years.

They buried the past, hiding what once was.

But Agnes was back.

She would clear away these vines, revealing everything as it truly was.

Agnes went upstairs, the first room she visited was Preston’s study.

When Preston was alive, he spent most of his time at home in his study.

Now, though, it was just a grey, dusty mess.

Everything on the desk was just as he left it, there was even an unfinished pack of cigarettes,

The room had that musty smell of time and neglect.

Spider webs filled the corners.

When Agnes approached Preston’s desk, she noticed a photograph of her and Beatrice Pritchard.

It was probably the only photo of her and Beatrice together.

Their relationship had always been strained.

The photo was taken by Preston during a family vacation at the beach.

In the photo, the two of them were just in the same frame, each picking up shells.

Preston treasured this photo.

To him, both his daughters were his treasures, but until his death, he never saw them living in harmony.

Agnes always knew about Beatrice and Laura’s goings–on.

Not that she intentionally kept tabs on them.

This was because Laura married Berlin Thomas not long after Agnes left Willowbrook Town.

That year, Beatrice tried to hit Agnes with her car, but ended up in a serious car accident herself.

Agnes wasn’t clear on the specifics of what happened after the accident.

But word had it that Beatrice had been quite active in the Capital’s social circles these years, and was now working

at the Thomas Group, so it seemed the accident hadn’t affected her too much.
