The Sherrocks did not even bother to draw the line at what they were doing when they boldly gave Floretta a hard

time. Of course, that would only tick Evander off.

“Old Mrs. Golding.”

Olivine tugged at Valerie’s arm while gazing at her with a pitiful mien.

The latter began to feel bad. All she did was turn to look at Evander, hoping for him to have a change of heart.

“Your grandpa is old friends with the Sherrocks. Don’t go overboard with your action,” was her dissuasion.

“Grandpa compromised so much for the Sherrocks. Yet, how have they repaid us? I think you should really check

out our company’s ledger, Grandma.”

Evander’s tone was as cold as the winter. He shot a glance at the pale face of Olivine, restraining himself from

hurting the latter’s pride by choosing not to go into the details.

After saying that, he carried Floretta and left the living room. On the way upstairs, he ordered Francesca with an icy

voice, “Francesca, take good care of my grandmother. Make sure to do your utmost.”

“Understood, Mr. Golding.”

Francesca bobbed her head respectfully. Immediately afterward, she went over and poured Valerie a cup of coffee.

“Old Mrs. Golding, would you like—”

Valerie waved a dismissive hand in frustration. “Take that away. I’m not drinking.”

Following that, Valerie shifted her line of sight to Olivine, her eyes inundated with reproach. Agitated, she struck the

walking stick in her hand against the floor and asked in a trembling voice, “Enough crying already! Explain to me

what Evander was getting at!”

Although she was not cut out for business, being able to marry into the Golding family clearly showed that she was

no fool. Naturally, she knew Evander was indirectly reminding her that the Sherrocks had their fair share of under-

the-table dealings throughout the collaboration with the Golding family.

Evander seized the opportunity that had presented itself when Mark bullied Floretta. Using that as an excuse, he

could then get rid of the Sherrock family.

Olivine looked like a startled cat as she shook Valerie’s arm and hastily explained, “I really don’t know, Old Mrs.

Golding. My elder brother has always been the one handling all the company affairs. I rarely get myself involved.”

Looking at how Olivine tried so hard to renounce her place in her own family, Valerie unwittingly felt disgusted as

the conservative part of her took over. She leaped up from the couch and declared with a deep voice, “It seems

that I should really reconsider the marriage arrangement between the two families!”

With that, she spun around and stepped out of the Golding residence altogether with her walking stick.

Olivine, in turn, was crushed by the old lady’s words. For a moment, she even forgot to watch her steps as she

staggered a little.

How did this happen?

She had come to plead with Evander so that the man would have mercy on Sherrock Group. Alas, not only had she

failed to reach her aim, but she had even lost favor with Valerie in the end.

What on earth went wrong?

Meanwhile, Evander was in his study on the second floor with Floretta, enjoying a moment of peace on their own. It

was then that he received Sylas’ call. Taking the phone with him, he walked away before answering the call.

“What is it?”

“Mr. Golding, the doctor reported that the kid’s DNA has been verified. That child and Ms. Sorelle are indeed

related.”

Evander’s face fell on the spot. He grunted a faint response and hung up the phone.

Considering that Angeline had found her own flesh and blood, Evander reckoned that the woman’s heart would

stray even further away from himself and Floretta.

He returned to his study and pushed the door open, only to see Floretta waiting for him on the couch.

The second Floretta caught sight of Evander at the door, she greeted obediently, “Daddy.”

That left a sensation of warmth in Evander’s heart. He walked over and sat beside Floretta. “Are you still mad at

Great-grandma?”

“No.” Floretta shook her head vehemently at that. “Actually, they were only thinking that I needed a mommy to be

by my side. Soon, everything will be okay when Angel marries Daddy.”

Seeing that expectant look of his daughter, Evander fell silent. Even his eyes turned dark.

Right then, a harrumph escaped from Floretta’s lips. She quickly supported herself up with her limbs and reached

out to her father once more.

“Carry me, Daddy.”

Despite the hassle, Evander could never resist nor turn the little girl away. As helpless as he might be, he still took

his daughter into his embrace ever so gingerly.

However, the moment he stretched his arms to lift the girl by the hips, he drew a sharp breath in pain. He had

completely forgotten that he had yet to fully recover from the injury.

Floretta caught on to that. She swiftly rolled up Evander’s sleeve, only to find the wound that had scabbed over

without any gauze on. Her eyes were filled with concern.

“You’re injured, Daddy. Does it hurt?”

“It’s okay. It doesn’t hurt anymore.”

He was so soft when he spoke to his daughter. Truth be told, he had been staying in the office all those while simply

because he did not wish to cause Floretta any distress.

Moreover, he had no idea how to break the news to the little girl that he had already broken up with Angeline.

“Daddy, let me blow on it.”

As Floretta spoke, she puffed up her cheeks and lightly let out a breath to blow on the wound.

Seeing that, Evander grabbed the girl’s arm and stopped her. With his slender finger, he tapped on her nose

dotingly.

“Spit it out. What is it you want from me?”

He knew his own daughter inside and out. The girl would not have done something like that for no reason. Only

when she had a favor to ask from him would she do away with the usual indifferent demeanor and put on a sweet

front.

Even so, no matter how frequently Floretta had used the same trick on him, he would still be powerless against the

little girl.

Floretta let out a chuckle as she sidled up to her father and caressed her father’s forehead with her tiny head.

“I haven’t seen Angel for a very, very long time already, Daddy. I missed her so much. Can you invite her over for

coffee?”

“No way.” Evander’s expression became gloomy abruptly. “If you only wanted something to do with her, you might

as well don’t ask anything from me anymore.”

“Daddy…”

Floretta tried to act cute to coax the man into doing her bidding. Yet, Evander had lost all interest in even talking to

the girl. He exited the study and summoned Francesca upstairs to get Floretta to bed.

It was already getting late, and Evander was not in the mood to continue with his work. Turning around, he made a

beeline for his bedroom.

There was not a sliver of light in the room. He had to search for the switch on the wall to turn on the light. Click!

In an instant, the entire bedroom lit up.

As Evander took a couple of steps inside, he was greeted by a woman lying on the bed right before his eyes.

“Evander.”

A meek, enchanting voice rang out, sending goosebumps all over Evander’s body.

It was Olivine on his bed. She slowly turned around before flashing Evander a sensuous look.

As the latter’s gaze landed on the woman’s body, his visage turned as grim as death.

There Olivine was, wearing nothing but undergarments. She bent over slightly to showcase her glorious breasts,

appearing nothing less than sexy.

Gnashing his teeth, Evander put forward an interrogation. “Who the hell gave you permission to set foot in my

bedroom?”

Olivine continued to put on an innocent front. She tucked her long hair behind her ears and said tenderly, “I’m

already your fiancée for so many years, Evander. I don’t expect you to love me with all your heart, but could you at

least lend me yourself for the night?”

“Get off the bed!”

Evander’s voice reeked of naught but frostiness. He had not the slightest intention of going easy on the woman.

Olivine blushed and pursed her lips in indignation.

I can’t believe this! I’ve already gone to such lengths to pull this on him, but he still refused to spare a glance at me!

At the thought of that, she grabbed the picture frame on the bedside table and showed it to Evander. She

questioned him coldly, “Why aren’t you willing to accept me when you’ve already broken up with Angeline?”
