Chapter 987

As dusk settled, the tempest roared to life.

The sky, dense and pitch-black, oppressively loomed over the boundless ocean, with colossal waves threatening

to stir up a storm.

All life seemed to teeter on the brink of being engulfed, shattered, obliterated in an instant.

On the shores of ROSE Island, waves crashed with relentless fury.

Evadne, without even a moment to change, still clad in her striking, blood-red

dress, scrambled onto the helicopter parked on the sandy beach.

She had regained sstrength, but her body remained frail.

Yet, she knew she couldn't hesitate any longer!

Tonight, Avery hadn't shown up in tto administer her dose of sedative. This was her only chance to escape!

Even though it had been years since she last piloted a helicopter, with only vague memories to guide her, she

was determined to try, to fight for her life!

Evadne slid into the pilot's seat, panting, her red dress soaked with cold sweat.

Fueling up, igniting, the propellers began to spin.

"Evadne, you can get out of here, just hold steady... you can do it!" Evadne gritted her teeth, her knuckles

turning white as she gripped the control stick firmly.

"Evadne!"

Avery's face was pale as death, his voice hoarse with desperation as he sprinted towards her.

Evadne stared coldly at him, her eyes filled with a deep, seething hatred, more tumultuous than the raging

storm.

"Avery... goodbye!"

Just as the helicopter lifted off, suddenly, three gunshots rang out from behind!

The sound of the waves and the helicopter's noise drowned out the gunshots almost completely.

But, one bullet whizzed by-

Shattering the front windshield!

"Stop! No!" Avery's eyes widened in horror, he screamed at the top of his lungs.

Evadne eyed the bullet hole on the glass. Images of the brutal wars she had witnessed on the battlefields of

Country L flooded her mind, making her heart race and her body tremble.

Yet, she remained resolute, pulling the control stick, her fierce desire to escape overcoming all fear.

Bang, bang, bang-!

Three more shots, mechanical and merciless, as if determined to make this helicopter Evadne's tomb.

However, those shots didn't claim her life; instead, they hit the helicopter's fuselage. The fuselage began leaking

fuel, and warning lights flashed across the cockpit screen.

"Damn it! Bastard!" Evadne roared, furiously pounding on the window.

Eventually, the propellers slowed to a stop, and all was calm again.

Only the incessant sound of waves mocked her failed attempt to flee.

Avery slumped, feeling utterly drained and simultaneously filled with rage as he glared at the emotionless Hans

approaching.

He knew Hans chose to shoot as a way to prevent the helicopter from taking off.

But had he considered, even for a moment, that a stray bullet could have easily taken Evadne's life!

Hans approached the cabin door, his handsface cold, and forcefully yanked it open-

There, in her red dress, sat Evadne, fragile as a porcelain doll, tears cascading down her cheeks, scattered by

the chilling sea breeze.

Hans's dark eyes fixed on her, "Cout."

Evadne turned, gasping for air as if suffocating, her beautiful face pale as death.

The ordeal had overwhelmed her; she was virtually paralyzed, incapable of moving.

She stared blankly at Hans, her mouth quivering, unable to stop crying.

Hans's brow furrowed deeply as he leaned into the cabin, his strong arms lifting Evadne's limp body.

"Let go of me..."

Evadne, devoid of strength, still stubbornly clenched her fist, pounding on his sturdy chest.

Hans's gaze remained indifferent as he suddenly loosened his grip.

Evadne's heart clenched in panic, she hastily closed her eyes, curling up in his embrace.

Then, the man's gaze deepened, and he held her tight once again.

She realized then, he had only been trying to scare her.
