Chapter 164

The gig kicked off.

Christina, the lady pianist, elegantly clad in a deep blue velvet dress, slowly strolled onto the stage. She sat in front of a pit ch–black piano, all set to serenade the audience with her claim–to– fame tune, Whispers of Etemity.

The crowd was completely captivated by the enchanting melody, leaving the ve nue in utter silence.

Even though the piano music was quite a treat, Evadne’s gaze was fixed on Chris tina’s deep blue dress.

This one–of–a–kind custom– made piece was designed by the internationally acclaimed designer Haron, wh o was none other than Evadne herself.

Only the celebrities of international fame and stardom were worthy of Haron’s c reations.

Thaddeus struggled to focus on the performance, his hands clenched and slightl y shaking.

His anger was simmering as he stared at Evadne’s beautiful face.

Occasionally, Avery would have a quiet word with Evadne. She’d nod slightly, her eyes twinkling with amusement, seemingly interested in what h e had to say.

Thaddeus was growing paler, his clenched hands revealing popping veins, his ga ze fixed on her.

Did she and that guy really have so much to chat about?

They had been married for three years, living together every day. How come she had never had so much to talk to him about?

“Man, why’s it suddenly so chilly?” Jareth complained, shrinking his neck.

After a few more tunes, Christina brought her star pupil, Edith, onto the stage.

Edith, a beautiful young girl with chestnut curls that cascaded down to her wais t, was dressed in a gorgeous green chiffon dress adorned with fiowers, enhancin g her stunning beauty even more.

“Edith, look here! It’s your big brother!” Jareth, spotting his sister on stage, wave d excitedly.

Thaddeus was expressionless, wishing he could boot him off the stage.

But Edith on stage didn’t notice her brother’s support. She bowed confidently t o the audience.

Then, she sat at the piano and began playing Mozart’s Turkish March.

Evadne, watching Edith on stage, was filled with envy.

Her left hand resting on her knee, her fingers danced to the melody from muscle memory.

The injured little finger seemed to come alive again.

“I remember you played the piano quite well when you were little,” Avery, watc hing Evadne’s fingers dance, said in a low voice, “If you had chosen to pursue m usic, you would have outshone her.”

“That’s impossible now,” Evadne responded.

Her trembling fingers retracted and clenched tightly, “I can never play like that again.”

Years ago on the battlefield of Zenithia, she severely injured the ligaments in her left han d, dragging an injured Thaddeus back to the camp. Her little finger was completely numb, whic h was irreversible.

As for the other four fingers, countless rehab sessions and buckets of sweat had barely brought them back to functionality.

But Evadne never regretted saving Thaddeus.

Even though he had hurt her deeply, they had once fought side by side for world peace.

What she had saved was not just a man, but a peacekeeper.

Her scars were not a shadow she couldn’t erase, but her highest personal honor.

After a successful concert, Christina and her student Edith bowed, receiving fiow ers and applause.

“Ms. Evadne, would you join me backstage?” Avery asked with a smile.

“Mr. Avery, is there something you need?” Evadne asked.

“Just a small personal matter. My mother is a big fan of Ms. Christina, so I wanted to get her an autographed record.”

“Christina is quite proud. It might be difficult.”

Avery smiled warmly, “That’s okay. As long as I get a chance to meet her and present my since re request, she may agree.”

Jareth was beyond proud, laughing incessantly and carrying a large bouquet as he led Thaddeus backstage.

However, coming down the other end of the corridor were Evadne and Avery.

The wide corridor suddenly felt narrow.

The atmosphere instantly tensed up.

Evadne was somewhat surprised. Her eyes met Thaddeus’s unexpectedly, causi ng her to frown.

Avery was also taken aback. He pushed up his gla**es and said, “I apologize, Ms. Evadne. I had no idea he would be here when I invited you. I can drop the auto graph request. Let’s leave.”

“No worries, I’m fine.” Evadne shrugged it off with a laugh, “There’s no law in our country that says we have to avoid our ex es, right? Plus, I hope you can get that autograph and fulfill Mrs. Chambers‘ little wish.”

Avery looked at her, deeply moved.

However, Thaddeus’s face had turned stone cold.

They weren’t far from each other, and Evadne’s voice was too clear, he could he ar every word.

Throughout the concert, he was holding back, his heart burning.

Now, hearing her care so much about Avery’s mother, he couldn’t hold back any longer. He wanted to confront her about how far she and Avery had gone. But wh y should it matter to him? He could even imagine how she would humiliate him.

They were divorced.

Why was he always controlled by his emotions, his nerves, and his thoughts, unc ontrollably wanting to be closer to her?

Suddenly, the dressing room door opened.

“Thaddeus! A crisp voice broke the tense atmosphere.

Before Thaddeus could react, a figure rushed forward, a green figure tightly hugg ing him.

Edith clung to him, her face rubbing against his chest, “Thaddeus, did you come especially to watch my performance? Were you trying to surprise me?”

Thaddeus’s face changed, his b*dy stiff, his eyes constantly darting towards Eva dne.

Jareth didn’t realize anything was wrong with his sister’s behavior. He thought sh e was just being her usual affectionate self towards Thaddeus, which was norma l in his eyes.

But he forgot that it was not ten years ago.

Edith was already 22, a real grown woman now, and she wasn’t Thaddeus‘ blood sister. The way she was acti ng now just wasn’t right.

Especially in front of Evadne.

“Thaddeus, let me nuzzle you!”

Edith clung tight to Thaddeus, her face moving in close. She was full of eagerness, not giving a da mn that there were others around.

Or rather, she was all the more brazen because there were others around. She w anted everyone to know just how close she and Thaddeus were.

But Thaddeus was stiff as a board, giving Edith no reaction.

His gaze, from the moment Evadne came into his line of sight, was fixed on her.

Edith was quick on the uptake, she noticed right away that Thaddeus wasn’t pay ing her any mind.

Following his gaze, she saw Evadne.

Jealousy fiooded her.

A beautiful woman’s enemy was a woman more beautiful than her.

“Edith, have you forgotten about your real brother now that you have Thaddeus?”

Jareth was oblivious to the tension, still jealous of his sister. “I want to nuzzle yo u too, come satisfy me!”

“Hmph, you have plenty of women around you. Go nuzzle them.”

Edith laughed, raising her hand to touch Thaddeus‘ face. “Jareth, you’re too fiatu lent. I prefer Thaddeus, he’s fresh and handsome. He’s just my type.”

Thaddeus suddenly frowned, turning his head to avoid her hand. “Edith.”

That was when he saw her.

Evadne’s eyes were bright as pearls, as she elegantly walked towards him.

Thaddeus‘ breath hitched, and his heart raced like it was about to burst out of h is chest.
