Chapter 4
Since she’d already decided to leave, she didn’t care anymore about keeping her mating status a secret.
Without another glance at the group behind her, Aria strode into the apartment building.
In the evening, Aria packed all her personal belongings into two large suitcases and stored them in the walk-in
closet.
Her gaze fell on the photo frof their secret mating ceremony, in which she was wearing a white dress,
holding Kane's hand, smiling beautifully, in stark contrast to his cold, serious face.
Back then, she'd simply thought he just didn’t like showing emotion. Though it was their only photo together as
bonded mates,
she’d treasured it.
But now, it just seemed like a mockery of the Moon Goddess’s gift.
It wasn’t that he disliked showing warmth. She just hadn't been worthy of his smiles.
Picking up the photo for one last look, she tossed it into a cardboard box with other discarded items, sealing
them away in the
closet.
As she exited the bedroom, sounds and familiar scent from the living room caught her attention. Kane had
returned.
Entering the living area, she saw him hanging his coat on the entryway rack and changing his shoes.
Aria took a deep breath and approached him.
“Don’t you have any explanation for today?” she asked, referring to his decision to move Seraphina and her son
into Moonrise Apartments, too.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtKane removed his tie, his amber eyes cold. “Explain what?”
“The apartments are close to the hospital. If you can live there, why can’t they?”
He draped the tie over his arm and stared at her. “Aria, you got what you wanted. Don’t be petty.”
Aria was devastated by his words. Her wolf whimpering inside.
Got what she wanted?
In his eyes, she had already obtained the position of Luna. Any objection to Seraphina and her son moving in
must seem like petty jealousy to him.
As he turned toward the bedroom, Aria stopped him. “We need to talk.”
Kane paused and turned back impatiently, his gaze indifferent. “What now?”
“Let’s sever our bond.” Aria slowly removed her Luna ring and clenched it in her palm. “I'm setting you free.”

Kane clearly hadn't expected her to mention bond severance. His wolf snarled beneath the surface, his
expression darkening
further. “I won't agree to it.”
Aria was taken aback. He refused to break their bond. Could it be his wolf actually wanted her...
He continued, his Alpha command clear, “Elder Ravencrest wouldn't approve either.”
Then cthe sound of the door closing.
Aria stood rooted to the spot, her wolf howling silently in her chest.
How foolish she’d been to entertain even a fleeting hope that his wolf might care.
His refusal had nothing to do with her or their mate bond. It was all about pack politics and Eleanor’s
disapproval.
If only he knew Eleanor had already consented.
Their argument left them sleeping in separate rooms that night. By morning, Kane had disappeared before the
housekeeper arrived, leaving only his lingering scent.
Aria ate breakfast alone, undisturbed. When the housekeeper emerged from tidying up, she asked, “Luna Aria,
why are so many things missing?”
Aria paused.
Even the housekeeper had noticed. Yet Kane hadn't said a word.
His indifference couldn't have been clearer.
“| cleared out old things,” Aria replied with a faint smile. “Nothing important.”
The housekeeper asked no more.
At noon, the hospital director called.

The metallic tang of blood hung thick in the air, making every wolf in the room tense.

Aria gasped at the critical condition of the patient.
An approximately eight-inch steel rod had pierced the patient's skull through his eye. Despite being unconscious,
