Chapter 1742:

Carola remained silent, her lack of response amplifying Kylee’s anxiety and frustration.

Yesterday, it was because of the necklace and bracelet Carola had bought her that the robbers had targeted her.

In Kylee’s mind, she wasn’t entirely to blame.

Shouldn't her mother be more forgiving and not so quick to hold a grudge against her?

After breakfast, the heavy, stifling atmosphere in the hospital room becunbearable for Kylee. Needing a

break, she stepped outside and sat down on a bench in the hallway. Moments later, her phone rang.

Glancing at the screen, she saw Elwood’s name.

Her expression wavered briefly before she answered the call. “Hello, Mr. Wright.”

“Ms. Wright, how’s your mother doing?” Elwood’s voice cut straight to concern for Carola.

Kylee hesitated, then forced a smile. “She's... doing alright. Why do you ask, Mr. Wright?”

“I heard about the robbery at Mingo,” Elwood explained. “The news footage blurred everyone's faces, but |

recognized your mother’s clothing. | had someone look into it and learned you were both there at that time. |

also heard your mother hurt her neck—is she okay?”

“She's fine. The neck injury isn’t serious. Thank you for checking in, Mr. Wright,” Kylee replied, keeping her voice

calm.

Elwood inquired, “Is she in the hospital now? I'd like to visit her.”

Kylee fell silent after hearing that, her mind racing.

She wasn’t sure how much Elwood knew—whether he was aware she had shoved Carola toward the robbers in

the chaos.

The thought of him visiting and Carola possibly exposing that terrified her, which would threaten the carefully

crafted image she had built in his eyes.

With all that in mind, Kylee replied, “I'm sorry, Mr. Wright, but my mother... she doesn’t want to see you. She's

recovering, and | don’t want anything to upset her right now. So, | can’t tell you where she is.”

There was a long pause on the other end of the line before Elwood spoke again, his voice heavy with concern.

“I'm really worried about her.”

“She’s okay. No need to worry,” Kylee assured him.

After a brief pause, she added, “Mr. Wright, if there's nothing else, I'll hang up now.”

With that, she ended the call.

But what Kylee hadn't anticipated was that, just ten minutes after the call, Elwood appeared at the door of

Carola’s hospital room.

Upon catching sight of Elwood, Kylee jolted upright from the bench, her face painted with shock. “Mr. Wright,

how... how did you manage to findhere?”

“I had my assistant track you down. | apologize, Ms. Wright, but | must speak with your mother.” Elwood’s voice

carried an unwavering firmness that brooked no opposition.

Without pausing for Kylee's response, Elwood turned and pushed the hospital room door open.
