Chapter 1764:
“Yes?” Kylee turned back to face him.
Elwood said, “Let's keep in touch more often. I'd really like to learn more about you and your mother.”
Kylee pressed her lips together thoughtfully. After a beat of silence, she gave a quiet nod. “Alright.”
Elwood’s face warmed with a smile at that.
When Belinda finally opened her eyes, the afternoon sun was already slipping past five.
“You're awake,” Lucas said, strolling over from the sofa.
“You're back already?” Belinda mumbled, rubbing the sleep from her eyes, her voice thick with drowsiness.
“Yes,” Lucas replied. “Get ready; we're going to my father’s place for dinner tonight.”
“Did your father call?” Belinda blinked, slightly confused.
Lucas nodded. “Yes. He probably heard about the robbery at Mingo Jewelry Store.”
The mention of it made Belinda slightly uneasy. She could already imagine Harold and Norma giving her an

“Alright.” With a faint crease between her brows, Belinda slid out of bed and made her way to the bathroom to
freshen up.
In the evening, they headed to see Harold.
As soon as they walked in, Norma went straight toward Belinda, her eyes scanning her from head to toe. Only
once she was sure Belinda was unscathed did she let out a deep breath of relief.
“I'm okay, Norma,” Belinda said softly, gently taking Norma's hand in hers.
Norma couldn't resist giving Belinda’s forehead two light pokes. “You silly girl. Where do you find such reckless
courage? Those were dangerous armed robbers, and you rushed straight at them!”
“I acted without thinking. Looking back now, it really was terrifying,” Belinda admitted.
“But | don’t see an ounce of fear in you now,” Harold said, stepping into the room just then and casting a
disapproving look Belinda’s way.
He turned to Lucas. “And you! Where were you at that time? Why weren't you with her when it happened?”
Before Lucas could speak, Belinda quickly interjected, “Lucas was working! | had arranged to have lunch with
Bethany, and since Mingo was nearby, | decided to stop by afterward. Who could have seen that coming? Lucas
can’t be glued to my side every second; it’s not his fault.”
Harold retorted, “He’s your boyfriend. It’s his job to keep you safe. Of course, it’s his fault.”
“I take full responsibility for not protecting her well,” Lucas said, accepting the blwithout hesitation.
Belinda turned toward him and took his hand. “It isn’t your fault.”
“Let's sit and talk,” Faye suggested gently, standing nearby.
So, they all sat down on the sofa.
Faye's gaze lingered on Belinda with concern. “Belinda, we watched the security footage from that day. It really
was dangerous. You acted too rashly. If something had happened to you, what would Lucas have done?”
