| froze. Then | shoved him away with all my strength, trying to snap him out of his fantasy. | fixed my nightgown
that he'd ripped. Half my pale skin was showing, and Jared just stared at me, dazed.
| stared calmly out the window and said, “You messed up, but I'm not putting all the blon you-because!
made mistakes too.”
Jared clearly hated how detached | sounded when talking about us. When there was no emotion, there was
nothing left to hope for.
Honestly, | had already moved on, and | knew exactly where | had messed up. | let out a quiet sigh and turned to
look at him.
| said, “You've been charging ahead all this time, and I've just been standing here, waiting for you. But after all
these years, | can’t even catch a glimpse of you anymore. And you and Tracy-it's been over a year, hasn't it?”
Jared's face turned ghostly pale, his lips pressed together, completely speechless.
| went on, “I never grew alongside you. Staying stuck in the splace was my mistake. | didn’t change at all,
and when you cback, all | did was nag about the daily grind-the chores, the bills, the kids crying.
