Chapter 646 The man was yanked away so suddenly, Elodie barely registered the change.
Freed at last, she stood trembling, her wide eyes struggling to take in what had just happened.
The first thing she saw was Watts bursting into the room, security guards right behind him. The attacker was quickly subdued.
Watts hurried to her side and untied the rope from her wrists. "Are you alright? Did they hurt you anywhere?" Elodie's heart was still pounding, her chest heaving as she tried to catch her breath. She hadn't expected Watts to be the one to save her.
"How did you know I'd been taken?" she managed, forcing herself to sound calm, though her wrists throbbed, her shoulders ached, and a pounding headache lingered from the chemical fumes.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtWatts frowned, pulling off his jacket and wrapping it around her shoulders. "I ran into Mr. Sterling-he said you'd gone missing. I started searching straight away." "But the bid? Aren't you supposed to be representing us?" Elodie's mind raced- Watts was their lead negotiator; he was supposed to be at the auction.
He only shook his head, gently tucking the jacket around her and offering a reassuring smile. "Doesn't matter. What's important is that you're safe. The contract can wait there'll be other opportunities." A heavy silence settled on Elodie. Because she'd been kidnapped, Vista Link Technologies had lost the bid. And now Watts, who cto her rescue, had missed out as well.
She knew all too well what this contract meant. It was the most lucrative deal on the market-everyone was fighting for it. Losing it now was a devastating blow.
"Don't think about that right now. Don't feel guilty either. Coming to find you was my decision." Watts cut her off before she could say more, steadying her as she stood.
They stepped into the corridor, and Elodie caught sight of the logo on the wall.
It was the auction venue itself? Her legs nearly buckled. Watts kept a firm grip on her as they started down the stairs.
Just then, the host's voice echoed from below: "And congratulations to The Silverstein Group for winning the contract!" Elodie's gaze sharpened. She turned and looked down the staircase just as Jarrod appeared, striding up with a stormy expression. His breathing was ragged, his dark eyes cold and intense, but when he saw her, sof that ice melted away.
"Mr. Silverstein, congratulations," Watts called down, his tone edged with irony. There was no question-the biggest winner in the room was Jarrod. He'd secured the deal without breaking a sweat.
Elodie couldn't quite nwhat she was feeling. Maybe it was the shock, or her battered body, or something deeper-but a wild, tangled emotion thrashed inside her.
Thunderous applause erupted below, all for The Silverstein Group and Jarrod.
While she'd been tied up and helpless, everything had changed.
Jarrod ignored Watts and strode up the stairs, his face set and unreadable. He reached Elodie, pulled her gently from Watts' grasp, and swept her into his arms. Without a word, he turned and carried her away. sŵ Elodie didn't protest. She didn't have the strength.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAt the entrance, Andrea had already pulled up the car.
Jarrod settled Elodie into the back seat. "Stay here and finish up. Mare sure whoever was caught is dealt with," he told Andrea, his tone steely. Andrea nodded, her face tense. This was no ordinary incident-it was turning into something far more serious.
Elodie curled into the seat, silent and composed, refusing to break down, refusing to cry. Jarrod didn't try to explain anything. He slammed the gas pedal, heading straight for the hospital.
They'd called ahead, so the moment they arrived, a team was ready for her.
Elodie didn't put on a brave face. She let Jarrod carry her into a private ER text room.
She told the doctor, in a hoarse voice, that she'd likely inhaled a significant amount of ether. Jarrod turned to the doctor. "Toxicology screen? Physical exam?" The doctor nodded briskly. "Both, plus a full blood panel." Everything happened fast.
Blood was drawn, and whatever strength Elodie had left drained away. Her body felt limp, her head swimming in pain and exhaustion.
