Chapter 206

Oliver only slept briefly before being woken up by Wayne and told that Yancy’s parents were looking for

him.

Oliver nodded to Wayne as an indication for him to let Frederick and Lillian in.

Frederick and Lillian looked somewhat awkward when they entered, unlike Oliver, who stared at them

coldly without uttering a word.

Frederick cleared his throat twice before saying, “Oliver, here’s what happened. Yancy’s granny has a

neighbor whose grandson has also had supernatural experiences. They sought help from a pretty

powerful priest, whom Yancy’s granny called a few days ago but was told he was not around. However,

she received a call today saying that he had returned. We discussed among ourselves and thought of

asking the priest to take a look at Yancy since we were at our wit’s end. That’s why we came to seek

your counsel on this matter…”

Oliver’s indifferent expression softened slightly, and he pondered momentarily before replying, “I have

no qualms about that. But I’m setting my foot down and will only pay up if his means are effective.

Otherwise, don’t expect a single cent from me for a charlatan, and he’d better pack his bags and

leave.”

Frederick nodded unhesitantly. “All right. I’ll ask Yancy’s granny to make the call. Perhaps I should

meet the priest beforehand…”

“Good idea.”

Oliver agreed to his suggestion. While Frederick was characteristically

cold-blooded, he had mingled with riff-raffs from a young age and rarely allowed others to take

advantage of him. As such, he would likely have a good eye when judging others.

Frederick told Melinda to contact the priest. They decided on a meeting location, and Frederick was

soon on his way alone.

Oliver could not fall asleep after waking up and whipped out his phone to browse the internet. Frederick

returned after slightly more than an hour.

He reported to Oliver in a strange tone upon reaching the hotel, “Oliver, I just met the priest who goes

by the name Howard Xanthos. I can’t explain why, but I feel like he can see through my heart. It’s so

mind-blowing!”

Oliver’s face remained neutral as he quirked his lips. “Did you bring him back here?”

“No.” Frederick immediately shook his head. “The priest never mentioned anything about coming over,

and neither did I. Yet, he asked me to hand you a little token on his behalf.”

“A little token?” Oliver was intrigued. “Wouldn’t it make more sense if it was intended for Yancy?” he

mused.

Frederick reached for a small box about as big as an accessory container and handed it to Oliver.

Oliver accepted it and hesitated before opening it.

Inside the box was a crystal the size of a finger.

The wheels in his mind were turning. “What is the meaning of this?”

He was perplexed as to why he had been given a crystal.

It was not a valuable item. Aside from that, he was not a woman. Therefore, the reason behind it being

a token was beyond him.

He could not figure it out. Oliver silently held the crystal in his hand and carefully inspected it.

Its transparency index was not so good, and there seemed to be a murky layer inside it.

Oliver turned it over several times and observed that its surface was blank. It did not have any words or

images engraved.

The crystal’s box was also empty, without so much as a note left behind.

Oliver could not make out what the crystal’s purpose was. Thus, he raised his head and asked

Frederick, “Did the priest tell you anything when he handed this to you?”

Frederick shook his head. “Nothing at all. I even asked him whether it was some rune intended for

Yancy, but he denied it and said it was meant for you.”

Oliver’s heart skipped a beat. ‘For me?

Why give me something specifically while acting so cryptic?

I have absolutely no clue what’s going on.’

Oliver continued observing the crystal in his hand, the fog-like substance within reflecting in his eyes

while he scrutinized it.

He suddenly felt like he had entered a fugue-like state and was overcome with the urge to lie down and

sleep due to exhaustion.

There seemed to be a voice beside his ear chanting, “Sleep… Sleep…”

The voice, combined with his grogginess, was the most potent lullaby that inexplicably compelled him

to doze off.

“You can just sleep if you’re tired since you’re in such a comfortable presidential suite,” the voice

coaxed.

He was about to succumb to slumber when the Book of Immortality’s aura within him abruptly

fluctuated. His mind cleared at that, and the irresistible urge to sleep was dispelled at once.

Oliver took in the crystal and its box in his hand astonishingly the moment his eyes cleared up.

He thought, ‘What’s going on?

I didn’t feel tired at all today after resting well and sleeping enough last night. How, then, could I be so

tempted to sleep just now?’

He returned his attention to the crystal. The foggy layer inside was like a spinning vortex with incredible

magnetism. It had almost sucked his sight and thoughts into it.

“What’s going on?” Oliver pondered.

He summoned the Book of Immortality’s aura to swirl inside his eyes, and a figure appeared from the

foggy vortex in the crystal, staring straight at him.

The figure’s eyes were odd. Oliver felt as if its gaze had hooks that dug deep into a person and were

irremovable as he looked at it.

A nebulous sensation gushed toward his mind when his eyes met the figure’s eyes. At that moment,

countless scenes and memories were swiftly being played in his mind as if they were videos that were

forcefully shoved in.

Yet, the Book of Immortality’s aura was like a sharp arrow that accompanied his sight as it penetrated

the crystal.

A loud boom went off in his mind, and the scenario exploded before vanishing out of sight.

Oliver trembled as his eyes cleared. He looked at himself as he held a small box in one hand and a

crystal in the other.

Oliver thought, “What is this? Had I been hallucinating just now?”

The crystal was transparent and shiny when his gaze returned to it.

Oliver was taken aback once more. He placed the crystal over his eyes and angled it against the

dazzling lights above him.

While the magnified image of his finger was not 100 percent clear, he could make it out distinctly.

“This is weird. Wasn’t the inside foggy and translucent?” Oliver wondered.

Oliver’s mouth was agape as he examined the crystal again, turning it over several times. It was indeed

transparent and without any foggy substance contained inside it.

“Had I imagined that too?” he pondered.

There was no trace of the fog no matter how hard Oliver looked, so he raised his head and asked

Frederick, /’Did you see it? Wasn’t the crystal foggy just now?” Frederick was dumbfounded. He shook

his head. “I… I didn’t notice.” Oliver pondered, “How peculiar. How could I start hallucinating randomly

despite being sane and having a considerably good memory?”

He asked Frederick again after thinking it over, “Does the priest know magic?” “Magic?” Frederick was

still confused and shook his head blankly. “I didn’t see him playing any magic tricks. As a matter of fact,

he barely said anything to me. After

asking me about Yancy, he handed this box to me directly and bid me to bring it back to you before he

left.”
