Chapter 40 I turned to see Selena gazing atwith hopeful eyes, making her heartfelt plea for us to remarry.

"Hud, let's get back together. Withdraw the divorce application, and let's be a couple again." Her gaze was filled with anticipation.

I knew what she was hoping for and what kind of answer she wanted from me, but I didn't want to go down that path. I was at a loss for words, unsure how to respond in a way that wouldn't hurt her feelings. So, I chose silence instead.

"Why, Hud? Why don't you want to agree to this? You're willing to put your work aside to supportthrough my treatment, which means you care about me. If that's the case, why can't we be together again? Don't you see? "I don't have those feelings for Zion anymore. I don't love him. No one can stop us from being together." No one could stopfrom being with her? But I had already decided to be with Sylvia; she was my girlfriend, not sthird wheel.

"Selena, it's over between us. I'm here to help you through your treatment out of respect for our years together. There's nothing else behind it." I didn't tell Selena that I stayed because Zion forcedto. If I did, it would only make her more upset.

I could see her shoulders trembling, and soon tears began streaming down her face, quickly soaking her cheeks. She was crying, but she didn't say a word. She simply crouched on the ground, covering her face in despair. When we were together, she rarely cried. After I filed for divorce, she hadn't cried either-oh wait, she did cry that one tat the office door.

I didn't know how to comfort her, standing there feeling utterly helpless.

The Ferris wheel had reached its highest point, but sadly, neither of us was in the mood to appreciate the view from the top.

I quietly watched her cry, and I'm not sure how long we sat in silence before our ride was over. The staff opened the door, a bit surprised to see Selena crouched on the ground. "Hey there, young lady, why are you sitting on the floor? Get up!" Feeling awkward, I glanced at the staff and bent down to encourage her to stand, but she got up on her own, wiping her tears and looking atwith red eyes.

"Hudson, don't regret this," she said, and then she walked away.

Our trip to the amusement park quickly cto an end after I made her unhappy. We headed to the parking lot and headed back.

When we arrived at the hospital, Zion was waiting there, clearly having been there for a while. He rushed over to greet us as soon as he saw us.

Since Selena was upset, she completely ignored Zion's attempts to be friendly, walking straight into her room and slamming the door shut in anger. Though Zion didn't understand the situation, he could tell she was not in a good mood.

"You upset Selena again," he said, grabbing my tie and glaring at"Hudson, I'm warning you: Don't bully selena, or we're going to have a serious problem." With Selena feeling down, I was also simmering with frustration.

I shook off Zion's hand and looked him in the eye, sneering, "Zion, if you're so tough go ahead and killfor real. You think I'm afraid of your threats?"
