Chapter 2143

Isabel asked, "What is that you want to do in Southboro? Why must you finish whatever you want to do, only then

you can be with me openly?"

A quick thought later, Isabel frowned and added, "Were we not together openly before?"

As far as she knew, they were quite open with their relationship.

"It's a long story. Let’s get you out first,” Roland said. He held her hand and wanted to leave.

Isabel did not move. She said coldly, "If you don't make things clear now, I won’t leave with you."

She refused to follow him. If she followed him out and he brushed her off with some excuse again, she would not be

able to do anything against him.

Roland sighed helplessly. "Isabel, only with your family’s approval can we be together openly."

Isabel thought of when Flint called her mentioning Roland's departure from the company. Flint told her that her

father disagreed with them being together, so Roland left the company.

However, it was not a big deal to her.

Isabel said, "I can handle my dad. My mom, my brother, and Flint, they all respected my decision. If I want to be

with you,

they won’t stop me."

"I know, but getting your family's approval is my duty as your boyfriend," Roland said with pursed lips.

Isabel was silenced as if a piece of cotton was stuck in her throat.

Roland also went silent momentarily before he said, "I have to prove my worth to your family, that's why I have to

go back to Southboro to retake what's mine."

If he could not even retake what was his, then he was not worthy of being with her.

He sounded determined yet gentle.

Isabel’s heart pounded but she was still irritated by his attitude.

She glared at him. "Then you should just tell me the truth. Why did you keep it from me?"

He had no idea how terrible she felt when they broke up.

Roland's eyes narrowed. He hugged her into his arms and said, "I'm sorry, Isabel."

He hugged her tightly and explained, "My grandfather and Decker have full control of the company, it will take me

more than a day to reclaim my rightful position. I don’t want you to see me in my worst state and I don't want you

helping me with your family's power."

If he relied on her help, he would not have retaken the company back with his own ability and he could not prove

himself to Odell.

Therefore, no matter how he saw it, he had to keep it a secret from Isabel.

Isabel’s heart clenched when she knew the truth.

She did not know that he left her because he wanted to prove himself to her family and was afraid that she would

intervene using her family's power.

He wanted to reclaim the company with his own ability, so he returned to Southboro without saying anything and

kept it a secret from her. He even had to turn his back on her when he ran into her the other time.

"Are you not afraid that I'll think that we’re breaking up for real? What if I cut all ties with you and never look back?"

She hated looking into the past. If she had made up her mind to cut all ties with him, she would never come to

Southboro nor see him again.

She would never care about his life anymore and would never use the Rockwells to test him.

The answer she got was a tighter grip around her waist.

He refused to let her go. He propped his chin on her head for a while before he said with a hoarse voice, "Of

course, I’m afraid."

Since he separated from her and came back to Southboro, he had never had a night of peaceful rest.

Especially when he saw her crying a river on the internet. He could not sleep for the entire night.

When he knew Clarice cut off all of Isabel's resources, he could not sleep as well. He used his subordinate's name

and contacted Amanda as a jewelry fair organizer, hoping that Isabel would show up to the invitation.

He never thought she would agree to appear, but she did.

He asked his subordinate to find out which hotel she was staying at and purposely asked his client to meet him

there to discuss the deal.

He did not expect to run into her in the lobby.

Even though she was in disguise, he recognized her at first glance.

As for the kick, he remembered it until now.

It was painful but it was heartwarming.
