Chapter 439

“Am I right?” Cynthia questioned calmly.

“I know you have taken a dislike to me, Cynthia. However, there is no need for such

malevolent conjectures about Michelle and myself. I am merely pursuing a simple

romantic relationship with your father, devoid of any hidden interests,” Mandy replied.

“Is that so?” Cynthia challenged.

“Yes,” Mandy affirmed, her tone full of sincerity,

“In that case, I will not interfere with your marriage to my father. You both can plan a time

to get the marriage certificate.” Cynthia declined to continue the argument.

Mandy was stunned. She had not expected this to be this quick. Mandy had been facing

severe interrogation moments ago, and now, after merely uttering a few sentences,

Cynthia had granted them permission to obtain their marriage certificate. This was not the

reaction she had expected from someone who seemed unlikely to trust her easily.

“Why are you staring at me?” Cynthia questioned tightly, clearly noticing the effectiveness

of her approach.

Realizing her lapse, Mandy, a master of hiding her emotions, asked, “Are you truly okay

with me marrying your father?”

Their marriage had been delayed for a considerable time due to Jonathan’s concern for his

daughters‘ feelings

“Yes, I am,” Cynthia answered.

“Why is that?” Mandy questioned.

“Because, as you have stated, your relationship is purely romantic and does not involve

any hidden interests. However, there is something I should tell you before you both obtain

the marriage certificate,” Cynthia responded, steering the conversation back to the main

point

“What is it?” Mandy found herself being led by the nose in the conversation.

Cynthia made her point crystal clear. “Once you are married to my father, Michelle will not

inherit any property

Mandy was momentarily taken aback

“The shares of Yates Group have already been transferred to my sister Shirley and me. As

for his other investments, they are documented and will be split between Shirley and me

in the future,” Cynthia explained, aware of Mandy’s intentions and her lack of sincerity.

Everything Cynthia mentioned was the truth. After their mother’s passing and the incident

that followed, their father had arranged these matters behind their backs. Cynthia had

discovered this only recently.

“What.” Mandy was unable to hide her dismay

Cynthia watched her, and as Mandy sensed the gaze, she snapped back to reality.

Hurriedly composing herself, the gentlenes on her face faded slightly. “That’s perfectly

fine. As long as you approve of me being with your father, we can work out the

“Mhm,” was Cynthia’s indifferent response.

Mandy seemed a little off her game. Cynthia, not waiting her father to spend his later

years with someone constantly eyeing his wealth, decided to deliver a final remark, “Just

one last thing. Don’t think of arranging a marriage for Michelle. She doesn’t have any

backup financially, and nobody would want a marriage like that, especially the elites.”

Her father still owned several properties. With his few billion in savings and those

properties, Mandy and Michelle would lead a comfortable life, provided they were not

overly grevily.

“Cynthia,” Mandy called out suddenly, stopping Cynthia as she was about to leave.

“What?” came the terse e response.

“Could you give Michelle a portion of the Yates Group shares?” Mandy could not hold back

any longer. If there was nothing to gain, why should she choose to be with Jonathan? “I

want her to marry into a good family.

With a share in the Yates Group, Michelle marrying into any wealthy family would be a

straightforward matter. Nobody would dare mistreat her.

Cynthia glanced at her, a flicker of curiosity apparent in her eyes. “As long as you agree to

that, I won’t ask for anything else for myself. I just want to spend the rest of my life quietly

with your father,” blurted out Mandy. She did not mind living a modest life, knowing she

would not face hardship while with Jonathan, who was always generous and kind to her.
