Elizabeth dropped the act, stung by her coldness: “Maureen, I'm marrying Alex soon. He'll run the Sutton Family.

Maureen set down her work. “I really don’t know about Mrs. Gu’s affairs. Since you're marrying Alex, | suggest

you ask him directly if there's anything you want to know.”

Elizabeth's expression tightened.

She had asked Alex before-he seemed gentle on the surface, yet revealed nothing privately.

Even now, she couldn't fathom why he'd agreed to their engagement.

Finding no answers from Maureen, Elizabeth scanned the room for Alex.

Soon she spotted him.

Alex stood towering over the crowd, wineglass in hand, gaze fixed in one direction.

Elizabeth followed his line of sight-Maureen stood arranging flowers there.

A dark suspicion flickered in Elizabeth's heart.

Only when Alex looked away did she suppress the absurd thought.

How could Alex possibly fancy Maureen? A hearing-impaired married woman.

Back at family gatherings, Maureen had always been the center of attention.

Now with Alex’s engagement, even distant Sutton relatives had arrived early, eager to watch the unfold-

“Sister-in-law, these years must've been lonely for you?”

Maureen recoiled from the alcoholic fumes, attempting to retreat. Edward pursued relentlessly: “You're

breathtakingly beautiful. My cousin Geoff is truly blind, wasting your virginity like this.

Leaning closer, he whispered: “Choose me, and I'll cherish you like porcelain.”

If Geoffrey's eyes were fine, Edward wouldn't dare flirt with Maureen even with a hundred times the courage.

Honestly, ever since Maureen married Geoffrey, Edward had fancied her at the wedding-she was breathtakingly

beautiful.

Now married, she carried an extra allure.

“Edward, show sself-respect.”

Maureen said coldly.

Edward mistook her reserve for shyness and pressed on: “Geoffrey's useless trash now. He doesn’t deserve you.

Engagement Party preparations.

She ignored him and walked away.

Edward followed, grabbed her, and started groping.

It was Geoffrey.

He stood front and center of several bodyguards.

Though he hadn't cpersonally, he'd had people secretly guarding Maureen. At the first sign of trouble, he

raced over.

The bodyguards didn’t hesitate-they hauled Edward out on his command.

Edward's drunkenness evaporated instantly: “Putdown! What are you doing?”

“Geoffrey, how dare you-"

His voice quickly drowned in the crowd.

Maureen remained on the floor, trembling violently, still shaken.

Geoffrey scanned the area, calling softly: “Reenie.”

Hearing his familiar voice, Maureen finally focused, tilting her head up: “Over here.”

Geoffrey followed the sound and crouched before her.

Maureen immediately clutched the hem of his jacket.
