Chapter 390
Chapter 390:
The next morning, Khloe awoke from a peaceful, deep sleep in the soft, cozy bed, with the sun already shining
brightly outside. Ever since starting preparations for the biopharmaceutical competition, she hadn't slept this
soundly. As she recalled her intimate moment with Henrik the previous day, she could still feel a slight numbness
in her back.
She got out of bed, slipped into her slippers, and walked out of the room. As expected, she saw Henrik standing
by the glass window. His stunningly handsface gleamed in the sunlight as he, wearing an apron, brought his
homemade dishes to the table.
“Good morning. Ceat,” Henrik said, his voice steady and expression neutral, lacking the tenderness he had
shown her before. However, his eyes gleamed with a flicker of something dangerous as he looked at Khloe.
Despite this, Khloe felt a sense of ease. This new side of Henrik seemed to have shed the pretentious act he
used to put on for others. He appeared more authentic, no longer just a polished facade.
As she sat down, Khloe noticed the carefully prepared dishes—each one her favorite—and couldn't help but
smile. “When did you wake up? How long have you been cooking?”
“Not too long.” Noticing Khloe reaching for the soup, Henrik took her hand. “You hurt your hand yesterday. Let
He then stretched out his hand, taking the spoon from Khloe and lifting a spoonful of soup to her lips.
Khloe froze for a moment, lifting her gaze to meet Henrik’s dark, penetrating eyes, which seemed like an abyss
waiting to consher. “If you keep spoilinglike this, | might forget how to take care of myself,” Khloe
teased, finding Henrik’s attention a little overwhelming today.
He leaned in and moved closer to her until he sat beside her. They were so close that they could hear each
other's breath. If Khloe turned her head even slightly, their lips would meet.
“Isn't it nice if | pamper you so much that you can’t imagine leaving me?” Henrik’s voice could melt anyone's
heart. But his face stayed emotionless, with only his eyes betraying the emotions he tried to conceal. “I can feed
you, dress you, bathe you, and even fund your lab. Anything you want, I'll make it happen.”
His words didn’t feel like empty promises, but more like an undeniable truth. He truly seemed intent on
protecting—or perhaps controlling—Khloe to that degree.

His tone was both captivating and perilous, causing Khloe’s heart to race as if she were standing face-to-face
with a wild beast.
After everything that had happened last night, Henrik no longer bothered to hide his true nature. The heavy,
suffocating aura that surrounded him seemed ready to pull Khloe into its depths. He was danger personified.
Khloe drew in a steadying breath, her eyes narrowing with irritation. “I've told you before, there's no need to
keep testing me. If | wanted to leave, | would have done it already. So, keep your distance.”
Without further words, she extended a finger and lightly pushed Henrik’s forehead, creating sspace
between them.
“Let's not forget, this is just a business arrangement, and our engagement is fake,” Khloe stated firmly, placing
extra emphasis on the word “fake.” Henrik had a face that...
He could be called perfectly handsome, but beneath it, there was a darkness, an abyss waiting to pull her in.
“Alright.” Henrik nodded with compliance, his thick eyelashes casting shadows over his cheeks. Today, he had
forsaken his usual polished appearance, where his hair was neatly combed back, allowing instead for his locks to
cascade around his face, softening his features and giving him a rare vulnerability.
Khloe couldn't help but be drawn to Henrik’s allure. Just yesterday, Henrik had soothed her with a massage and
opened up about his past. This morning, he had gone out of his way to prepare a lavish breakfast. It seemed
almost cruel to remind him that their engagement was fake, and Khloe experienced a sharp twinge of guilt. Yet,
she wasn’t prepared to dive into a serious relationship or entertain the idea of another boyfriend, let alone a
husband, even if it was Henrik. She held firm to this rule, though she didn’t mind indulging him somewhat.
Her eyes then wandered to Henrik’s hands, elegantly poised on the table. His hands were striking, the well-
defined joints and subtle calluses lending them a rugged charm. However, a small scar slightly diminished their
flawless appearance.

bit from their beauty. I'll make you an ointment to erase it.”
