Chapter 743

William emanated authority without raising his voice. "Withdraw that announcement first."

What announcement?

Of course, he meant the Reynolds Group's notice canceling the engagement with Vivian.

Zachary fixed his grandfather with a determined gaze. His lips barely moved as he replied, "No."

When William spoke seriously about something, no one dared contradict him, let alone maintain eye contact.

But Zachary did.

He met those weathered eyes, which showed hints of a jaded view of the world, and repeated firmly, "I refuse."

His tone was absolute, his gaze unwavering as he faced his grandfather without backing down.

William looked at his grandson with confusion. He had raised and taught him for so many years, given him so

much power-but not so he could confidently say "I refuse" to his face.

"Does your refusal matter?" he asked meaningfully.

Zachary didn't retreat an inch. He sighed. "Grandpa, | didn't want to tell you this before. | was afraid it would

upset you, but now | have no choice."

His grandfather frowned slightly. "Tellwhat?"

The fragrant tea permeated the room, sunlight pouring into every corner. Several tea plants sat by the window.

It was as if thad returned to a distant past. When Zachary spoke, his voice carried a rich, magnetic quality.

"Grandpa, surely you had suspicions about my mother's death?"

William considered this. "I did suspect something, but that explosion happened so suddenly. Your father traced

the driver of that escape vehicle back eighteen generations and still found nothing suspicious. Almost everyone

believed it was an accident."

"Almost? What about you, Grandfather?"

"Me?" William smiled ruefully. "Does my opinion matter? It happened so long ago. Why bring it up now?"

A heavy atmosphere hung between them.

Zachary stood firm, looking directly at his grandfather. "Because I've found the truth."

Hearing this, William didn't seem surprised. "So your sudden disappearance before you went to West Ridge?"

"Yes." Zachary gazed out the window, as if looking at West Ridge in the past. "What did you discover?"

"The matter my mom was investigating was real, and her death wasn't an accident. Someone deliberately

caused it—someone you know." His voice grew increasingly cold.

William's expression suddenly turned harsh-a look that hadn't appeared in years. He softly uttered a name,

"Jethro Wilson."

Zachary was momentarily stunned. He had actually forgotten Mr. Wilson's real name. "Yes, that's him."

William's eyes filled with contemplation. After a moment, he picked up the bottle of grain liquor and tossed it into

the trash.

"Zachary, the debt the Wilson family owes us-it's yours to collect."

Zachary nodded and turned to leave.

His grandfather watched his departing figure with interest. "This is the first tyou've defied my wishes like

this. | hope it's also the last."

Zachary, unconcerned, didn't even turn around. He simply waved his hand. "Who can say what the future

holds?"

William fell silent. He picked up his teacup again, his hand trembling slightly, spilling a few drops.

He looked at the tea stains on his hand with regret, as if conversing with an old friend. "You knew all along, didn't

you?"
