Hearing Aubrey say, in her own voice, that there was no longer any possibility between us sent a
sharp stab straight through my chest.
It was the sas being rejected by my fated mate to my face. In the back of my mind, my wolf,
Callen, whined restlessly. “I feel like something’s wrong with our fated mate,” he rumbled,
unsettled. “I... | don’t feel right.”
That clusive alpha-ranked she-wolf? She was strong enough to take on an entire pack alone and
skilled. enough to vanish without a trace. | doubted she was in any real danger.
I was the one who was worse off-infected with a virus no one could cure, and now... losing the
woman | loved.
“Alpha...” Perry, my guard, spoke in a low, consoling tone. “Once you recover, you'll still have a
chance. You’re our alpha- your word is law. You could just hold another banquet to dissolve the
sibling bond, right?”
“Who?!” Aubrey’s sharp hearing picked up the words instantly.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtThe door swung open, and | forced my expression back under control. Whatever clater could wait there was
no point in drowning in thoughts of the future now. | might not even live to see the day a cure was found.
But if... if I did survive...
No matter what it cost, | would undo this sibling bond. Even if it meant venturing into the Moon Goddess’s
birthplace - that fatal, forbidden land where no one had ever returned alive.
| drew a slow breath, stepped into the room, and the first thing my eyes landed on was Aubrey’s bare back- and
the ugly wound marring it. Anger flared inall over again.
“How bad is it?” | asked Xavier.
“Why are you both here? Is the banquet over?” Aubrey asked, clearly surprised.
| frowned, but before I could say anything, Perry answered with an easy grin. “Without you, what's the point of a
banquet? And Alpha was worried about you, so we left early.”
Aubrey nodded faintly at that.
Xavier finally answered my question. “Didn’t hit the bone, but the cut’s deep. Alpha, what happened to the
attacker?”
I gave a short, cold huff. Did he really think I'd let anyone who hurt her walk away?
Seeing the curiosity on Aubrey’s face, | lowered my voice. “She attacked you deliberately - and poisoned the
pool with wolfsbane. I've already punished her.”
| kept my tone even, but Perry, behind me, let out a tic breath, rubbing his forehead. “You should've seen
it, Ms. Aubrey - Alpha was furious! He stripped Mariana of her beta rank right there, made her an omega, then
kicked her straight into the pool! You should've heard her scream... Moon Goddess, it was brutal.”

Aubrey, however, nodded with clear satisfaction. “Good. Savesthe trouble of dealing with her
myself.”
At that, the corner of my mouth tugged upward. If she was pleased, then so was I.
My eyes dropped to Xavier’s hands, watching him smear the ointment on her wound with far too
little care. “You all go out,” | said. “Xavier, what’s needed here? I'll do it.”
“No need,” Aubrey objected immediately.
But Xavier, of course, followed my orders. He grinned and handedtwo containers. “Blue
ointment first, then the white powder. Wrap it up, then one injection and you're done.”
I took them without hesitation, ready to start.
Realizing she couldn’t escape, Aubrey eyedsuspiciously. “You’re not planning to givethe
shot yourself, are you? You think you can even find the vein?”
