He stepped in front of Mariana, shielding her as if | had committed sunforgivable crime, his
glare sharp enough to cut.
“I'm vicious?”
“You're offering to share your latest T-flu research results with me?”
Ha. I almost laughed out loud. Ella let out a low, mocking growl in my mind. “A bunch of fools who
can’t tell what's real”
The male werewolf looked down his nose at me. “That’s right! These results cfrom Mariana,
who learned them from the esteemed senior wolf doctor, Mr. Fray. She’s a student of the mysterious
wolf doctor who cracked the T-flu virus. That's the only reason he was willing to share his
experience with us!”
“Based on what that wolf doctor revealed, we’ve basically figured out the cause of the T-flu virus. If
you’re willing to let Mariana go, I'll let you join our research group.”-
His eyes brimmed with condescension, the spatronizing tone Mariana picked up on as she lifted her head at

doctor's student.”
The crowd immediately erupted.
“Gene’s medical skills are top-tier. Getting into his group is practically a guaranteed ticket to grad school.”
“Moon Goddess! Mariana’s a student of the mysterious wolf doctor? How can someone like her be demoted to
omega?!”
“The alpha really picked the wrong person. If you ask me, Mariana’s far more suited to be his sister.”
“Exactly. So she took credit for saving someone's life-so what? We were all kids back then. She probably didn’t
mean it.”
In the blink of an eye, nearly everyone had taken Mariana’s side.
To medical students at Ocean University, any connection to the wolf doctor who cracked the T-flu virus was the
greatest of honors.
“Aubrey, stop hesitating. Go ask the alpha to lift the demotion! Mariana’s that wolf doctor's student!”
“As a beta who's earned that kind of recognition, she’s bound to achieve great things in medicine!”
Voices aroundpushed and pressed, demanding | beg for her pardon.
In my head, Ella was restless, snarling to be let out and tear their mouths apart. | kept her leashed, finding the
whole thing amusing.
If they knew that the so-called mysterious wolf doctor they worshipped was me, what would their expressions
and their loyalties-look like then?
| couldn't help glancing at Mariana. She kept her head bowed, a perfect picture of pitifulness. But this so- called
“poor little thing” had the gall to impersonate my student, flaunt my name, and now even pretend

And all of it-this carefully staged spectacle, this display of weakness-was designed to cornerin
front of an audience, to forceto forgive her. If | refused, I'd be branded heartless and cruel by
every tongue here. Most people would cave under that kind of pressure.
But not me.
My lips curved as | swept my gaze over the crowd. “You all think I’m the one who can’t let go?”
No one spoke, but their eyes radiated disapproval.
1 couldn’t help but laugh. When the laugh faded, I didn’t bother wasting more words. Instead, |
pulled out my phone and dialed Wolf Doctor Fray. We had exchanged numbers before parting ways.
When the line connected, I put it on speaker and asked directly, “Mr. Fray, may | ask-do you know a
werewolf named Mariana? Is she a student of the wolf doctor who cracked the T-flu virus?”
