Alpha Mateo told Aubrey, “After Leon’s class today, the bodyguards I sent didn’t pick him up. At
first | thought whoever it was was coming for me, but then | received a message-someone named
you specifically. If you don’t come, Leon won't live.”
“Meet me?” Aubrey frowned. The sequence of events made one thing painfully clear-the attackers
weren't acting alone. They’d coordinated, planning to pick them off one by one while. she and Alpha
Henry were apart... and somehow an innocent person had been swept up in it.
Mateo’s voice cagain over the line. “If they're targeting you, then they’ve probably tried to
contact you. But you don’t have to go. He’s my brother; I'll get him back. I told you so you'd be
careful.” Then he hung up.
Aubrey stared at her phone, then opened the email again. The sketch looked like someone had
treasured and rolled it carefully-probably the portrait Leon had drawn a few days ago before she
left. He’d painted her like an angel.
She forced a bitter smile.
Go-or not go?

intact would be difficult with only their forces.
Her phone buzzed. A new video had been sent. A bad premonition tightened in her chest as she tapped it open.
“Make sure he screams.” A thick-bearded, brutish werewolf yanked at Leon’s hair with a cruel hand.
Leon's clothes had been torn away; his pale, thin body was laced with raw, bloody welts and obvious burn marks.
The lashes had been tipped with silver powder. His treatment had only recently finished-his self-healing was still
slow.
The sight made Aubrey’s pupils narrow. Leon’s eyes flashed with panic and stubbornness on the screen; he bit
out, “Just kill me.”
“Hahaha!” The man’s heavy hand groped Leon, voice dull. “Such a beautiful body-how could I let you die before
we're done playing?”
When Leon tried to bite his tongue, the man shoved something into his mouth to gag him. Under the wet,
disordered hair, Leon's clear eyes looked utterly hopeless. He fought desperately.

The man, displeased by his resistance, whipped him two more times, then recorded his victim's ruin with the
camera.
Blood ran down Leon's pale skin.
The huge man swallowed and leered at the lens. “Aubrey. I'll give you half an hour. If you don’t cto Lianyu
Harbor in thirty minutes, I'll fuck him to death. Don’t worry-I'll record every bit and send it to you. Then you can
go fish his body out of the water. Remember-thirty minutes.”
The video cut to black.
Aubrey sat on the edge of the bed, her face like iron.
How dare they?
Leon was so clean, so innocent. He was just starting to have a break in life-and they’d kidnapped
him and were torturing him like this. How dare they?
Her eyes darkened; a surge of murderous rage rolled through her. She thought of his unblemished
smile and then of the image on the screen-him plunged into darkness and pain -and her fingers
trembled. She wanted to snap that man’s neck.
Just then Charles burst in. Seeing Aubrey still there, he exhaled a long breath. “Good-you’re here.
Beta Cam has already sent people. We just wait and hold the place.”
But as soon as the words left his mouth, Aubrey sprang to her feet and headed for the door.
“Aubrey?” Charles froze, a bad feeling rising.
“You're going out?” he asked.
Aubrey gave him a cold look. “How many people did you bring?”
