Grace was on her knees in the living area, her eyes glued to the news.
It was almost dawn, yet Ethan still hadn't returned. Had he been punished by Jordan?
She felt an unexpected twinge of concern. From tto time, she would peer toward the entrance as she rubbed
her stiff knees.
The news had been running non-stop from midnight till morning. The reporters clearly had nothing better to do
as they kept rehashing Jack's incident over and over and shared public opinions about the Henderson family.
This time, the Henderson family was at the center of it all. With Jordan's past position, the family was bound to
attract attention.
Grace sighed. When she heard the sound of a car engine outside, she craned her neck toward the door.
Headlights swept across the windows, followed by noises at the door.
Tim opened the door and stepped inside.
Grace met his gaze, then looked behind him. Ethan wasn't there.
"Mr. Bennett, where's Mr. Henderson?"
Tim scoffed, hanging his coat on the nearby rack. "Thanks to you, Ms. Lambert, Mr. Henderson Senior wants him
married in two weeks."
"What does that have to do with Jodie's incident? Mr. Henderson Senior isn't actually suggesting they get
married, is he?"
"What are you even saying, Grace?"
Tim stormed toward her in irritation. "Didn't you see the news? Mr. Henderson leaked Ms. Henderson's
background just to protect you. Now, the entire Henderson family is in the crosshairs. Mr. Henderson Senior
thinks he has feelings for you, so he's forcing him to get married right away to put an end to it." He said it all
clearly, but Grace didn't understand a word.
Ethan... liked her?
She almost laughed, but seeing the stern look on Tim's face, she just rubbed her aching knees instead.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"So, you're saying that Mr. Henderson likes me?"
Her smile faded as soon as their eyes met, and she suddenly remembered all the things that had happened
between her and Ethan.
She had injured his legs, leaving him in a wheelchair, and he had never blamed her. She had tested his patience
again and again, but he had never retaliated. He wanted magnolias from her, and he had even protected her
numerous times.
The more she pieced things together, the stranger it felt.
However, as far as she could recall, she and Ethan had never really spent much ttogether.
She frowned, then remembered what Tim had just said.
"You said Mr. Henderson released Jodie's information to protect me... Won't that get him in trouble with Mr.
Henderson Senior? I..."
Her voice faltered before she could finish the sentence.
Ethan really was in trouble-Jordan was forcing him to marry. But the woman he had once loved was gone. Who
was he supposed to marry now?
Tim let out another cold, sarcastic laugh. "Well then, Ms. Lambert, maybe you should go get your documents and
just register the marriage with Mr. Henderson yourself."
"I have a boyfriend," Grace said seriously, her eyes meeting Tim's. "And I love him."
Tim didn't answer her. He simply went upstairs, though it wasn't clear what for.
Grace stayed where she was, still on her knees, until she saw him coming down again with a large medical case
in hand.
Her chest tightened.
Ethan's legs weren't fully healed yet. Did Jordan physically punish him?
She remembered how Yancey had been punished. His back had been a bloody
mess.
"Mr. Bennett..."
Tim ignored her.
Grace tried to stand. Yet after being on her knees for so long, the pain was sharp enough to drain the color from
her face.
She hurried after Tim, but the pain held her up for a moment. Tim had already driven off by the tshe reached
outside.
"Mr. Bennett!" she called out.
She tried to leave Palm Bay. However, after finally making it to the front gate, the guards refused to let her out.
Her phone had also been taken
away by Tim, so she had no way of contacting anyone. In the end, she, could only return to the house and grab
whatever she could from the fridge to eat. s
She had initially planned to wait until the maids arrived to borrow a phone. Yet, after waiting from morning to
noon, not a single person had shown up.
Jodie's incident was still all over TV, and things were escalating rapidly. Just how much trouble would Ethan be
dragged into?
Even if Jordan adored him, this was probably where the line was drawn.
Grace was so desperate that she went to the guards to borrow a phone, but the guards barely looked at her
before shutting the window of the guard booth.
She waited through the entire day, eating whatever was available when she felt hungry.
In
Three days later, the news on TV took a sudden turn. It reported that someone had taken photos of Ethan being
rushed to the emergency room The images were blurry, but the car parked outside the hospital was
unmistakably his. s
Grace's heart skipped a beat.
After another restless night, she had just finished showering when she heard the sound of a car outside. She
quickly threw on a random piece of clothing and dashed downstairs. Finally, she saw Ethan. s
"Mr. Henderson!"
Ethan's face looked drained of color, and he didn't seem to react at all. He just sat
silently in his wheelchair.
Grace held the collar of her clothes, following him into the elevator without
hesitation. "Are you feeling better, Mr. Henderson?"
Ethan gave no response. His gaze stayed low, unreadable. He had always been
reserved, but this indifference was wearing her out.
Grace silently followed behind him into the master bedroom.
"Mr. Henderson, I—"
Before she could finish, he cut in, "Would you be willing to leave the country if |
made the arrangements for it?"
