Chapter 282: Inez's Father: A Dive To The Past She was going to kill Tracy.
That was her only thought as she marched past the silent street. The gas station that Tracy spoke of never cinto view, which strengthened her suspicion that the witch just drove her here to ditch her. Why? She had no freaking idea. With her eyes closed and breathing stagnantly, she continued to walk on and on until the sea of darkness intensified even further.
Inez was glad that she was a part shifter, or else she would have had a hard tseeing through the darkness that kept stretching on and on.
"Where did she bring me, argh!?" Inez snapped as she cto a stop. She looked around the deserted space and almost lost her patience. She was not someone who would lose their patience without a reason, but at that moment, she did. She was tired and hungry, and everything just didn't make any sense at that very moment.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtWhy was she here, and what was she even trying to do? Why did she even bother to worry about a witch? Tracy was a big girl; surely, she would be fine? And here she was still looking and searching for her.
Inez felt abandoned and angry. She raised her foot and kicked a pebble on the road in anger. The tiny little stone flew up and struck something hard, which clanged in the dark. Startled, Inez turned the light of the torch around and finally-fucking finally-found a board with the nof a town and the distance from where she stood written on it.
Letting out a whoop of excitement, she rushed to the board and crouched down to look at the numbers. "Only two kilometres," she mused. "I can walk for that long." At least it was better than walking without an aim. Inez got to her feet and started toward her newfound goal. It was definitely not as easy as she thought it would be. After all, she had been wandering aimlessly for quite a while now, and her calves, even with her being a shifter, were shaking.
Finally, she made it to the small town of Mistville. It was an ancient town. Rather small and filled with the scent of decay and doom, as this place had been in quite a lot of trouble due to the attacks of the vampires and the rogues. Inez carefully made her way through the town's square and looked around.
The only occupied houses were firmly shut, and there were no sounds at all. It seemed like every family that lived here had already gone to bed. Even though it wasn't even eight.
What do you expect from the people of the town where rogue attacks are considered normal? Your council is really a waste of space.
Her siren snapped within her. She seemed unimpressed with the lack of care and actions that the council had shown to the people of this town, and honestly, Inez agreed with her. The council existed to protect the shifters, and yet they did nothing. It was definitely not cool of them.
However, they didn't have the tto worry about the useless existence of the council, which should have been taking care of the shifters and this town. She and her siren were so lost in the town themselves for them to care about nothing else.
Ignoring the frustration building in her chest, Inez looked around the small town and started focusing on the sounds rather than on what she could see. Finally, the sounds of the hammer hitting the metal echoed in the silence of the night. Realising that there was someone out there who was still awake, Inez turned on her feet and headed in the direction from where the noise was coming.
As Inez made her way to the garage, she found a sturdy man who was jamming and hammering while lying underneath a car.
She breathed a sigh of relief. At least she found someone whom she could ask for directions to the gas station. "Excuse me?" Hurrying down the garage, Inez called out to the man. "I am sorry for disturbing you, but can you tellwhere the nearest gas station is?" The man stopped hammering and raised his head to look at her. His beady eyes squinted as he looked at her. A human. Inez thought.
She curled her lips and smiled at the man before asking again, "Sir? Can you tellabout the gas station, please?" The man pushed himself out from under the car and straightened up. His tall, built look looked even sturdier, like a small mountain when he stood up. He ended up hitting the lamp on top of his head.
"Oww!" the man groaned as he raised his hand and rubbed his shiny bald pate. "Ah, what did you say, Miss?"
"I asked you for directions, sir. I want to go to the nearest gas station, My car is parked right there?" Inez pointed to the closest spot and added, "But it's running low on fuel. Can you please helpout a little?" She didn't want to tell the man that she was quite stranded, with nowhere to go. The man was a stranger, and Inez, having trusted a stranger, already knew what the consequences of doing so were.
The mechanic frowned and said to her, "You are quite off the mark if you are looking for the gas station, Miss. You should have taken a left five kilometres ago. You took the wrong turn. From here on out, you have nowhere to go. Beyond this town, you will only find a graveyard. Didn't you already see that in your application?" Inez felt her brow twitch a little, and she smiled at the man apologetically. "I am sorry-but myis not working. There is no network here in this place." "Ah, that could happen -"
"Honey, who are you talking to?" A feminine voice spoke from behind the man just as the door was pushed open, and a woman stepped inside the garage. She looked at her husband and then turned to look at Inez. One look at her face and she frowned. "You...."
