Loving Mom 267

Chapter 267

“Sharon, did you know?” Kelly said lightly. “To make it up tofor everything I've just been through, Carter's

takingto pick out sjewelry.”

She smiled sweetly, the malice behind it barely concealed. “He said | can choose whatever | like-anything that

makeshappy. Oh, and you and Carter got married without even exchanging rings, didn’t you? That's just...

disgraceful.”

She let out a delicate but mocking laugh. “Don’t worry, I'll make sure to convince Carter to pick something out

for you too.” With that, Kelly walked off, smile still in place.

Uriah’s beard twitched with fury as he scowled. “That heartless girl... is she always this arrogant in front of you?”

Sharon nodded. “She’s always been like that.”

Uriah snorted. “Then why don’t you just go up there and slap her? Knock ssense into her?”

Sharon gave a soft chuckle. “Two slaps would be letting her off too easily.”

Uriah narrowed his eyes at her. He didn’t take well to being slighted. “Oh? Then what do you have in mind?”

Sharon glanced at her bank card, thinking of the astronomical figure that had just been transferred in. A slow

smile spread across her face.

“I suddenly feel like going shopping for sjewelry too.”

Uriah caught on instantly, grinning in approval. “Well, what are you waiting for? Don’t let them get too far.”

At the mall, Kelly was trying on a bracelet.

Carter wasn’t with her. He was too busy with work to tag along, so he'd called Nate to keep her company

instead.

Nate, knowing she was upset again, had spent the whole ride over thinking of ways to cheer her up. But Kelly

still looked distant, her mood sour.

“That bracelet looks great on you,” he said. “Go ahead and get it. I'll buy it for you.”

The bracelet was worth 300 thousand. But Kelly, clearly unimpressed, slipped it off without a second glance.

Not long ago, Theo had taken back the Biggs family heirloom bracelet that was meant for his mom.

Kelly had been furious.

That heirloom, both in significance and value, made this common 300-thousand-dollar piece look like a trinket

from a gift shop.

“No,” she said, shaking her head. “The design's too basic.”

Nate turned to the sales associate. “Do you have anything... better?”

“Of course, sir, miss,” the saleswoman said, quickly ushering them upstairs.

This jewelry store catered to high-end clientele. Most pieces started in the hundred thousands. Three hundred

thousand was nothing here. Spieces upstairs went for over ten million.

The first floor carried the lower-tier items, starting in the low hundred thousands. The second floor began in

millions.

As for the third floor... few ever ventured there.

Kelly browsed for a while before her eyes landed on a bracelet priced at five million.

“This one isn’t bad,” she said casually.

Nate glanced at the price tag, and his face shifted.

He cfrom money, sure. Shelling out a few hundred thousand was no big deal. But he hadn't fully inherited

the Hendricks family fortune yet, and spending five million in one go... that was a stretch.

Three million, he could just about manage if he clenched his teeth.

But this?

Kelly noticed his hesitation immediately. He didn’t say yes right away. Which meant-he couldn't afford it.

A flicker of disdain passed through her eyes, though her voice remained soft. “Never mind. This one’s too

expensive. Let's forget it.”

She smiled as she slid the bracelet off and handed it back to the saleswoman.

Just as the woman took it, a crisp, clear female voice rang out behind them.

“I'll take that one.”
