The butler was panting when he said, “Bad news, Mr. Xavier! Mr. Fairchild has returned! He had a gun

in his hand, and he shot Mr. Nate! Are you and Mrs. Fairchild okay?”

“We’re fine!” Xavier frowned and asked, “When you said Mr. Fairchild, did you mean Zyon?”

“Yes. Mr. Nate spotted him first. After that, two other housekeepers saw him as well. It was definitely

Mr. Zyon.”

Hearing that, Xavier realized something.

With a frown, he turned toward Winnie and asked, “Could Zyon be the dark figure that Nate said was

always following you?”

Winnie furrowed her brows and answered, “That’s highly possible. When I came over, Nate wasn’t

following me anymore. I think he had gone after the dark figure. Coincidentally, Nate was the first to

spot Zyon. In that case, Zyon was coming after me or even both of us too.”

Upon hearing Winnie’s analysis, Xavier’s frown deepened. “Besides us, Grandpa could be in danger as

well!”

“Butler! Where’s Grandpa? Is he all right?” Xavier asked.

“He’s fine!” the butler answered confidently. “When I came out, Old Mr. Fairchild was still safe and

sound. He even had security guards by his side. He was worried about you and Mrs. Fairchild, so he

sent me here to check on you guys.”

“We’re fine. Let’s look for Grandpa now. Upon getting spotted, Zyon will either run away or do

something crazy. Now, go to the surveillance room and check all the surveillance cameras,” Xavier

instructed.

“Okay. I understand!” the butler agreed immediately. The few of them then went outside together.

While walking, Xavier asked the butler, “How’s Nate? Is someone with him? Are Uncle Jonathan and

Aunt Beatrice there?”

“They were informed already. We’ve also called for an ambulance, and it’ll arrive in fifteen minutes at

most. Furthermore, Mr. Nate was shot in the arm. He should be fine.”

Xavier grunted in acknowledgment. “That’s good.”

It was a big deal because the descendant of the Fraser family was shot and injured by the grandson of

the Fairchild family in the Fairchild residence.

They arrived at the shooting scene fairly quickly.

It didn’t matter if they wanted to look for Rufus or Jacinta, they had to pass through the scene.

However, they heard buzzing sounds from above before they arrived at the scene.

Winnie frowned. “What are these?”

She wasn’t a fan of bugs and insects. It was dark, so she instinctively raised her hand and wanted to

wave those bugs away.

Right before she did that, Xavier suddenly stopped her and pulled her into his embrace.

“Don’t move, Dumbo!” Xavier warned in a serious tone. With Winnie in his embrace, he quickly took

two steps backward.

The butler took a closer look at the insects in the air and exclaimed in surprise, “These are hornets!

How did so many hornets show up in the garden all of a sudden?”

“Hornets?” Winnie raised her head from Xavier’s embrace and looked closely. Instantly, she knew what

she was looking at.

“These hornets are poisonous!” Winnie raised her gaze toward Xavier and said, “Fortunately, you

stopped me! Otherwise, I might even end up in the ICU.”

“I’m just glad you’re all right!” Xavier frowned and looked at the butler again. “How did you guys not

know there’s a hornet’s nest in the garden? I bet it was hidden all this while. There were two gunshots

just now, so maybe one of the bullets ended up in the hornet’s nest. Tell everyone about it and tell them

to be careful.”

The butler instantly agreed.

Meanwhile, Jonathan and Beatrice arrived in a rush to check on Nate.

Knowing that Nate was most probably not seriously hurt, Jonathan ignored his son and walked up to

Xavier instead.

The two of them had a brief chat afterward. Apparently, Jonathan wasn’t blaming the Fairchild family.

When Xavier told Jonathan he was going to check on Rufus, Jonathan had even taken the initiative to

urge Xavier to do so.

Rufus’ well-being was of the utmost importance, so Xavier left right away.

The moment he left, Winnie wanted to check on Jacinta.

Yet, she had barely taken two steps when she suddenly heard Beatrice screaming for help.

“Help! Somebody! Please help Nate! What’s the matter with you, Nate? Don’t scare me. Please say

something!”

It just so happened that the house physician at the Fairchild residence was on leave. Hence, they had

no choice but to wait for the ambulance to arrive at the scene to treat Nate. The other butler from the

Fairchild residence could only help Nate stop his bleeding from the gunshot wound with whatever he

could find in the first aid kit.

If he was only shot in the arm, Nate couldn’t be in much trouble.

Could it be that Nate had also been shot elsewhere? Since Nate was always causing Winnie trouble,

she would have no problem ignoring those cries for help.

However, she couldn’t ignore the cries of a mother.

Indeed, Beatrice’s cries for help reminded Winnie of her own mother.

Therefore, after a few seconds of hesitation, Winnie turned around and walked toward Beatrice and

Nate.

When Winnie got there, she saw Beatrice panicking and tearing Nate’s clothes apart to check his body.

“What’s going on? How did this happen? Jonathan, do something! What’s wrong with Nate? Is he

injured elsewhere?” Beatrice asked.

Right next to them, there were several hornets that had been trampled to death. Winnie also saw two

hornet’s nests the size of a fist under a tree not far away.

Winnie quickly checked Nate’s condition and immediately told Beatrice to stop what she was doing.

“Beatrice, you can’t keep wrapping your arms around him that way. It seems like he’s choking on

something. Hold him up and remove whatever that’s stuck in his throat!”

“Okay!” For some reason, Beatrice became calm upon hearing Winnie’s words. It was as if Winnie’s

words were as reliable as a doctor’s.

“What’s next, Winnie? What should I do now? I’ve already checked his body, and he was only shot in

the arm. He was still talking to me just now. What could be choking him? He just suddenly rolled his

eyes backward and had trouble breathing.”

“Calm down. You can’t panic now.” Unlike Beatrice, Winnie seemed as cool as a cucumber. “I need two

people to help me. I need one person to force his mouth open and the other to shine a light into his

mouth.”

As soon as those words fell, Jonathan squatted down and forced Nate’s mouth open.

Kevin, who had just arrived at the scene in a rush, quickly switched on the flashlight on his phone.

With the help of those two men from the Fraser family, Winnie stuck her fingers into Nate’s mouth.

While moving her fingers around, she explained, “I think a hornet had made its way into his mouth. If

it’s just blocking his windpipe, that shouldn’t be too troublesome. However, these hornets are extremely

poisonous. If it were to sting Nate before it died, things are going to get dicey. Open his mouth wider,

please. He’s biting on my fingers, and I can’t work like this.”

At that point, the members of the Fraser family were willing to listen to whatever Winnie had to say.

Moments later, Winnie pulled out a half-finger-length, two-finger-width dead hornet from Nate’s throat.

Everyone at the scene was stunned when they saw the size of the dead hornet.

Beatrice’s face turned pale in an instant. “That’s a big hornet! It’s very poisonous, right? Where’s the

ambulance? Why isn’t the ambulance here yet?”

Winnie took the flashlight from Kevin and looked inside Nate’s mouth. After touching Nate’s throat

gently, she uttered in a serious tone, “There’s another one in his windpipe. He needs an operation now

to stay alive. If we wait, he might not survive this. If you guys want him to live, you can’t wait for the

ambulance. By the time it gets here, he would be long gone.”

“An operation?” Beatrice glanced at her husband and looked at Winnie. “Who’s going to perform the

operation? We don’t have a doctor present. What operation are you talking about? Is it risky?”

“It’s a tracheotomy,” Winnie explained calmly. “It’s actually quite common. I’ve done it when I was in the

wilderness. The situation was so urgent that we couldn’t wait for the doctor to come.”

At that moment, Nate’s situation was just as urgent. He could barely breathe on his own anymore.

Without a tracheotomy, he only had three minutes left to live.

“Are you confident in performing the operation?” Beatrice was at a loss. She turned toward her

husband and said, “Jonathan, make a decision, will you? Nate is running out of breath.”

Jonathan was so nervous that he was sweating bullets. However, he quickly came to a decision. “Ms.

Garland, if you’re able to perform the operation, please save Nate’s life. If he lives, you’ll be our family’s

savior!”

“What if something goes wrong and Nate dies?” With a calm expression, Winnie asked, “What is the

Fraser family going to do to me?”

Jonathan frowned slightly but remained firm. “If he dies, it has nothing to do with you, Ms. Garland! At

least you’re trying to save Nate.”

Winnie nodded and whipped out her phone to wave it in front of their faces. “You meant what you said,

right? I’ve recorded it, Mr. Fraser. If something bad were to happen, I hope the Fraser family will honor

those words.”

With that, she started ordering the others around.

As a matter of fact, she was very confident in performing such a minor operation. Back then, she had

already learned it when she went to the wilderness for survival training with other members of the

family. This kind of emergency operation is as common to me as CPR and bandaging someone up.

“Now, hurry up and find something to put under his shoulders. I want his head to lean backward. After

that, I need you guys to work together. One of you should hold his head still and straight to prevent him

from moving. Someone needs to bring the first aid kit to me. I need rubbing alcohol and a straw. I also

need gauze. Quick!” Winnie ordered.

“Okay!” “Right away!”

“By the way, someone please go and check on my granny. I need to know that she’s safe and sound,”

Winnie uttered.

“Okay, Mrs. Fairchild!” a housekeeper answered immediately. “I’ll go now!”

Shortly after, Nate was held in position. Rubbing alcohol, a straw, and gauze were also brought to

Winnie.

The only thing they didn’t have was a scalpel because the first aid kit didn’t have a scalpel in it.

Fortunately, Winnie had two scalpels in her acupuncture kit.

Winnie hurriedly took out one scalpel and disinfected it. Her movements were swift and precise. Within

seconds, she made the incision and inserted the disinfected straw into his windpipe.

At that point, the operation was half-completed.

She then needed to remove everything that was blocking his windpipe. That included a hornet and

bloody sputum.

However, the conditions there were rudimentary, and it was incomparable to a hospital. She had no

machine, so she could only suck out those things with her mouth.

Upon taking a deep breath, she leaned down toward Nate.

With all her strength, she sucked the dead hornet out of his windpipe.

As a consequence, she choked herself. It was a slightly smaller hornet, so it almost went down her

throat.

After spitting the hornet out, she felt discomfort in her throat. Even so, she knew the priority was to

save Nate’s life.

Once again, she leaned down toward him to suck out the bloody sputum and secretions stuck in Nate’s

windpipe.

In fact, Nate could already breathe on his own the moment the hornet was sucked out.

Although he almost died of choking, he was aware of what was happening around him.

Suddenly, he opened his eyes and slightly parted his lips.

Straightaway, he saw Winnie sucking the secretions out of his windpipe without minding it being

disgusting. That’s Winnie, no? She’s my enemy. Why is she doing this?

Nate moved his lips. Right when he was about to open his mouth, Winnie stopped him and said, “Don’t

talk! Just keep breathing the fresh air. Don’t harm your throat even more!”

However, Nate wasn’t just going to back down. Even though he couldn’t utter a word, he could still

move his hands. He ended up shoving Winnie aside when she was about to intubate him.

In response, Winnie glared at him and fumed, “You don’t want me to save your life, do you? I’m just

doing this for your mom’s sake, okay? Do you think I’m doing this for you?”

Once she had bandaged him and intubated him, the operation was completed.

Seeing that their son was alive, Beatrice and Jonathan immediately expressed their gratitude toward

Winnie.

Winnie wiped the blood off of her hands and uttered flatly, “Get him to lie down flat and wait for the

ambulance.”

With that, she was ready to leave the scene. The moment she stood up, she saw that the courtyard

where Rufus lived was ablaze with fire. In fact, the flame was burning brightly, and it dyed half of the

sky red.

From afar, people were shouting, “Fire! Fire! Send help to put out the fire!”

Winnie frowned immediately. Beatrice was talking to her, but Winnie just couldn’t hear her anymore.

Instead of listening to what Beatrice was saying, Winnie immediately ran toward the fire.

The Fairchild residence was mostly made of wood. The wind was strong that night, and the fire was

getting out of hand.

Before Winnie even got near the fire, she could feel the intense heat in the air. In fact, smoke and

ashes were everywhere.

“Xavier! Xavier! Where are you?” Winnie ran into the courtyard and caught no sign of Xavier.

The butler heard her shouting, so he approached her and urged, “Mrs. Fairchild! Stay away! You’ll get

burnt!”

At that moment, Winnie couldn’t care about anything else anymore. “Where’s Xavier? Where’s

Grandpa Rufus? Where are they?”

“Old Mr. Fairchild is still inside. Mr. Xavier had gone in there to save Old Mr. Fairchild! We tried, but we

couldn’t stop Mr. Xavier! When I got here, the place was already on fire, and someone had locked Old

Mr. Fairchild inside. Since Old Mr. Fairchild couldn’t get out of there, Mr. Xavier rushed in to rescue him.

It had been a few minutes already, but no one has come out of the fire yet. What are you doing, Mrs.

Fairchild? Don’t go in there! It’s dangerous! The fire is blazing!”
