Originally, Xavier wanted to be in the same car as Winnie, but it was not the time to be haggling over

tiny matters like that.

Hence, he quickly went to the back and drove off the car with Riley and Jacinta in it.

When he was overtaking the car in front of him, Winnie had already crawled into the back seat to check

on Rachel. The moment she heard a car approaching, she turned around subconsciously.

Coincidentally, she met Xavier’s eyes.

However, they only met briefly. In fact, it was so brief that Xavier did not manage to flash her a smile.

Winnie’s heart skipped a beat as she watched the car disappear from her sight.

She stood rooted to the ground with her eyes fixed on the car.

“Hey!” It was not until Josiah waved his hand in front of her she snapped back to reality.

When he saw her still in a daze, he could not help but smile and tease, “Why are you staring so intently

when he’s already so far away? You’re going to turn into a statue if you keep that up.” Suddenly, he

saw Winnie placing her hand on her chest. “H-Hey… Are you okay?”

He frowned and asked, “Are you feeling unwell? Where does it hurt? Your chest or your heart? Did

Harold injure you just now?”

Winnie frowned and shook her head. “No. I’m fine. I’m just a little flustered and out of breath. Don’t

bother about me. You should go check on Rachel. I found her when I got into the car, but she seems to

have been unconscious the whole time. I’m guessing she was already like that when they brought her

out of the hospital because they didn’t tie her up. She probably had no energy to struggle or resist. God

knows what they have done to her?”

“Okay. Calm down. Let me have a look,” said Josiah as he took out a medical flashlight from his

pocket.

He lifted Rachel’s eyelids and pointed the flashlight at them, carefully observing her pupils’ reaction

before saying, “It isn’t a serious problem. My guess is that she was injected with some sedative. That’s

why she’s unconscious. Well, it’s a good thing too. With her current mental state, her being conscious

could create trouble for us. Sit tight. I’ll get into the driver’s seat and drive.”

“Okay,” Winnie answered, wanting to shut the door.

Unfortunately, the car door was on her right, and she could not use her right arm at that moment.

Hence, she had no choice but to use her left. However, it would be a little strenuous if she did that.

Josiah, who had been watching her every move from the corner of his eyes, immediately held her left

arm after noticing her struggle. “Don’t move your injured arm. Here, let me do it.”

With that, he leaned over and helped her to close the door. He then got out and made his way to the

driver’s seat.

When the engine started, Winnie found Josiah’s medical flashlight by her feet. He must’ve dropped it

when he bent over to close the door.

Carefully studying the tiny flashlight in her hand, Winnie smiled and said, “I can’t believe you have this

little thing with you, even at a place and time like this.”

Little thing? Josiah instinctively touched the pocket on his chest, which made him realize he had

dropped his flashlight.

He met Winnie’s gaze through the rearview mirror and grinned. “People who are dedicated to their

work are generally quite lucky. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have gotten the chance to rescue General Kane’s

beloved daughter. In fact, today’s happenings were all thanks to her. If not, you people would be in

deep trouble.”

Winnie frowned slightly. “Exactly. Harold is such a cruel person. We really thought we were done for.

Unexpectedly, you suddenly appear in a tank.”

Josiah laughed out loud. “What do you think? Did I look cool just now?”

Winnie suddenly found it amusing as she pictured the scene from a while ago. “I don’t know about that,

but you looked dramatic and even a little comical when you were holding the megaphone.”

Josiah adjusted his glasses. “Tsk… Looks like the megaphone has affected my image. Hmph! I’m

never using it in the future.”

Winnie chuckled and handed him the flashlight. “Here you go.”

Josiah tilted his head to give her a glance. “Hold on to it for me. I’m driving. By the way, make sure you

sit tight. The road ahead isn’t paved.”

“All right.” Winnie retracted her hand and glanced at the road ahead. “Where are we going?”

“Huh?” Josiah was surprised, though he kept his eyes fixed on the unpaved road. “Didn’t Xavier tell you

about the plan?”

Sighing softly, Winnie explained, “He didn’t have the time. We were planning to pick up my granny from

the hospital first. But as soon as we opened the door, we found Harold waiting for us inside with a gun.

Xavier was planning to meet up with you to talk about it in detail.”

Josiah nodded to express his understanding. “Well, I can fill you in. Xavier was too focused on

protecting you when you were in danger back then. He can’t multitask, so I was the one who came up

with the plan to return to the country.”

Winnie glanced at his side profile. “Okay. Let’s hear your plan.”

Josiah explained, “First, we’re not taking a plane. The procedures are cumbersome and it’ll take up too

much time. So, I got ourselves a private chopper from our country. Unfortunately, the chopper can’t

come here. That’s why we have to leave in a car.”

Winnie nodded. “Where are we going, then? Where do we board?”

“Yeringham. With this terrible road, it’ll take us about four hours to get there. Once we’re there, we’ll go

straight to the tallest building. The helicopter will be picking us up on the roof.”

Winnie had not heard of that name before. “Yeringham? Harold won’t be there, right?”

“Theoretically, no, because Yeringham is protected by the local government. It’s not as chaotic as this

place where several countries meet. Thus, even a powerful ruler like General Kane won’t have the guts

to cause trouble there, let alone Harold,” Josiah analyzed.

After a moment of silence, Winnie urged, “Still, we should hurry. Harold is a lunatic. He’s drastically

different from an ordinary criminal. Most importantly, he hates me now. I won’t be surprised if he follows

me to Chanaea.”

Frowning, Josiah explained, “I’ve heard stories of him before. I’ve got to admit, it’s really quite scary to

be targeted by someone like him. I’ll do my best to drive faster, but this car isn’t as good as the one

Xavier took. Look. It took him only a while to get out of our sight.”

As he spoke, he dialed Xavier’s number.

The call quickly connected, and Xavier asked, “Where’s Winnie?”

Josiah scolded immediately, “Excuse me. Where are your manners? Don’t you know who’s the one

calling you?”

Winnie was used to their playful bickering. Hence, she merely replied, “I’m here. What’s up?”

Only then did Xavier finally inform, “I’ve contacted Mason. They should be—”

Before he could finish, Josiah suddenly cursed out loud.

That was because a car on the left fork had suddenly lost control and crashed into them.
