Rufus let out a long sigh. “Well, Stuart is still my son. Just now, when he burst into tears, I suddenly

recalled how hard he had tried to please me when he was still a child. I’ll admit that I’m someone who

practiced favoritism. Thus, in a way, I’m also responsible for how he is acting now, and I feel guilty

about it. Besides, I don’t find his demand unreasonable.”

After glancing at the bedridden Jacinta, he continued, “He wanted to visit his mom because he knew he

could no longer run away. He might not have a chance to meet his mom if he doesn’t do it now. Bring

him to the hospital before sending him to the police station.”

Rufus spoke in a stern voice as if he would not take no for an answer.

He then passed the phone to Xavier. “He’s still on the line. Find someone to bring Uncle Stuart over. If

you think he’s a threat, get a few more men to keep an eye on him and make sure he’s unarmed. What

are you waiting for? You do want to settle this as soon as possible, don’t you? Get it done right now.”

Xavier took over the phone and instinctively looked at Winnie. At that time, Winnie was sitting beside

the bed to accompany Jacinta.

Just when Winnie was about to speak, Jacinta regained consciousness.

Before this, she was acting crazy, so the doctor had to administer sedatives to calm her down. To

prevent her from becoming hysterical again, the doctor took precautionary measures by binding her

limbs and putting her in a special hospital gown.

When Jacinta woke up and realized she was tied up, she started shrieking, “Why am I all tied up? Why

did you do this to me?”

She could not help but shiver upon noticing the crowd in the ward.

Only when Winnie walked over and reached her hand to comfort her did she notice the woman was

standing by her side. “Winnie, am I in the hospital? Get the doctor to untie me and release me. I want

to go and see my son. Please, Winnie. I want to see my son. Don’t forget he’s your uncle too.”

“Granny…” Winnie’s heart jolted when she saw how unstable Jacinta was. Somehow, she felt her

condition was more severe than she first thought.

Winnie turned her attention to Josiah. “Come over here and take a look at her.”

Josiah, who was a stone’s throw away, also realized something was amiss with Jacinta.

He walked toward Jacinta, took a closer look at the elderly woman, and said to Winnie, “Earlier, I found

a document about your granny. The record shows that she was once admitted to a psychiatric hospital,

but she eventually recovered and was discharged. I supposed it wasn’t a severe case back then.

Looking at her condition now, I’m afraid she’s experiencing a relapse. It’s unlikely for patients to recover

completely from psychiatric disorders. Patients who are not mentally strong might go through a relapse

if something or someone agitates them. Since you’re unaware of her medical past, I supposed she

hadn’t taken any medicine in the last ten years. This will further increase the chances of a relapse.”

“Yes,” Winnie muttered upon hearing Josiah’s explanation, “I never knew she had this problem.”

Once again, she shifted her gaze to Jacinta.

Jacinta continued pleading with Winnie, “Winnie, please allow me to meet my son. I beg you. Please!”

Jacinta got out of bed and was ready to prostrate herself before Winnie.

Winnie immediately stopped her and helped her up. “Please don’t do this, Granny. Please stop!”

Not wanting to put Winnie in a tough spot, Xavier made a call and ordered his men to bring Stuart over.

He was also doing this for Rufus.

While waiting for Stuart, Winnie instructed a doctor to give Jacinta a more thorough checkup.

Jacinta was emotionally unstable but had yet to exhibit any other symptoms. So the doctor told Winnie

he could only continue to monitor her condition and not provide an accurate diagnosis on the spot.

Nonetheless, the doctor warned that Jacinta must not be triggered again.

That was why Winnie had to step out of the ward to talk to Stuart when he arrived at the hospital.

“Listen carefully,” Winnie warned Stuart, “by right, we should hand you over to the cops, but since

Grandpa Rufus gave you the green light to meet Granny, I have no choice but to respect his decision.

But I need you to know Granny is now mentally unstable, so speak nicely when you see her. If you dare

to utter something that will agitate her, I’ll make sure you rot in jail!”

Stuart glared at her and responded sarcastically, “Stop acting like you know everything about kinship.

She’s my mom, and I just want to visit her, yet you’re warning me not to agitate her. Don’t you think

you’re being ridiculous? You should know you’re the reason she’s admitted to the hospital in the first

place.”

“Shut up!” Xavier, who came out of the ward with Winnie, unbuttoned his sleeves and aimed a punch at

Stuart’s face after seeing how he provoked Winnie.

Coincidentally, Rufus was also standing outside the ward. He knitted his brows upon witnessing the

argument. “Come in if you guys are done.”

“Wait a minute.” Xavier stopped the two men who were escorting Stuart from advancing. “Have you

searched his body? Did he carry any weapon?”

One of the men replied, “No. Besides his clothes and watch, he didn’t carry anything else.” With that

assurance, Xavier moved aside, allowing them to enter the ward.

He held Winnie’s hand and followed right behind them.

Xavier laced his fingers through hers, lowered his head, and said gently, “Don’t take his words to

heart.”

“I won’t,” Winnie assured him with a steady look. “Nothing he said will affect me because I don’t give a

d*mn about him.”

After entering the ward, they locked the door right away.

Jacinta and Stuart were already bawling their eyes out and hugging each other.

Stuart kept apologizing to Jacinta for dragging her into trouble.

Likewise, Jacinta asked him for forgiveness as she had never fulfilled her responsibility as his mother.

At one glance, they seemed to have regretted the mistakes they had made in the past.

Yet, all of a sudden, Stuart drew a blade from his wristwatch and held Jacinta hostage.

The blade was thin but had sharp edges. It instantly cut through the bandage on Jacinta’s neck.

She was admitted to the hospital because of a cut on her neck. Her fresh wound started bleeding again

when Stuart pressed the blade against the injury.

Jacinta was thunderstruck. “Stuart, how could you do this to me?”

Stuart shot daggers at her and sneered, “Mom, you were willing to be held hostage and help Zyon

escape. So why don’t you do it for me again today? You felt sorry for not being a good mother to me,

right? Well, it’s time for you to make it up to me!”
