“Sure.” Cocking her brow slightly, Winnie put her phone away. “Whatever you say,

Handsome.”

Despite how her eyes glistened as she spoke, they still carried a tinge of mischief within

them.

The look in her eyes jolted Xavier, as he suddenly felt a gaping distance between them,

even though she was standing right before him at arm’s length.

“Hold my hand tightly.” Looking at Winnie, Xavier could not help but furrow his brows.

His hands were indeed a sight to behold. With a large palm, slender fingers, and the right

proportion of bones and muscles, anyone with a hand fetish would definitely feel their

knees buckle.

His face was not the only part of him that Winnie admired. Naturally, it also included his

perfect-looking hands.

Smiling, she did more than just hold his hand tightly. One by one, she threaded her fingers

in between his.

As for her smile, it brimmed with such charm that it stunned Xavier on his feet.

When she was a fool, she was already capable of mesmerizing me to the extent of losing

control. Now that she isn’t, is she going to seduce my entire being from me? She even

took the initiative to clasp her fingers with mine. Does she even know what she’s doing?

Given that she’s not really a retard, she must be aware of what’s going on the entire time.

If it was not for the loud commotion coming from the mansion, he would have hugged her

in his tight embrace and kissed her until she was breathlessly whispering sweet nothings

in his ear.

In the end, he managed to keep his urges in check. Holding her dainty hands tightly, he

strode to the mansion together with her.

The moment they arrived, they saw the bodyguard washing his eyes at the pond outside

the backdoor.

Xavier frowned at the sight. “What did they throw at you? Do you need to go to the

hospital?”

“It’s fine, Mr. Fairchild. It’s just sand. Anyway, I have already locked the main door. It will

keep them out for the time being.”

The bodyguard had barely finished when he inquired, “Should we call the police? It’s quite

the mob out there.”

“No,” Xavier rejected the bodyguard’s suggestion.

Once they made a police report, Zyon and the others would be able to find out about it

immediately since the police station’s network was now linked to the internet.

Therefore, he did not want to do it for fear of having his plan disrupted.

“Bring me my wheelchair,” Xavier ordered the driver, who did as he was told.

Subsequently, he wheeled Xavier out to the front.

Throughout the entire episode, Xavier did not let go of Winnie’s hand at all.

It was not until he saw—through the glass door—the belligerent group of islanders led by

one of the Briggses that he let go of her hand and moved her behind him to shield her.

With that, he ordered the driver, “Open the door and record everything on video with your

phone. Make sure you capture everyone’s face in it.”

“Understood!” Even though the driver did as he was told, he could not help but worry still.

“Mr. Fairchild, should we get Mrs. Fairchild to hide in the room upstairs? I’m afraid they

might be targeting her.”

Having heard the driver’s words, Winnie raised her brows in appreciation of his good

intentions.

Nevertheless, she did not share his sentiments, for she knew that the crowd was unlikely

there because of her. Instead…

“No, they didn’t come for her.” Xavier shot a cold glance at the crowd outside and scoffed,

“They’re here for money.”

Winnie quietly agreed with his assessment. His sentiments are exactly the same as mine.

She was never the foolish girl kidnapped by the Briggs family to be sold. The islanders

might not have seen the girl before, but the same could not be said of the Briggs family.

Despite obviously knowing that she was not the “wife” they were looking for, they

continued to cause trouble over the matter. Hence, other than extortion, Winnie could not

think of any other rationale for their actions.

Furthermore, the driver had whetted the “well-intentioned” islanders’ greed when he went

around throwing money on the beach. As a result, these “good samaritans” were now

back for more on the pretext of helping the Briggs family get their bride back.

Hehe, that’s human nature for you. They won’t do anything unless there’s something in it

for them.

Leaning languidly against a table, Winnie was waiting with anticipation to see how Xavier

would deal with the group.

Is he going to solve it with money again? It would be boring if he did. Besides, I don’t think

he has that much cash on him on such short notice.

As the driver opened the door, Hayden, who was heading the mob, swiftly barged in.

As he was taught a lesson by the bodyguard the last time round, his head, face, and arms

were covered in bandages. In fact, he even had two men to help him walk. In spite of that,

one could not deny that it could just be an act to elicit sympathy.

“You thief! How dare you steal my wife—” With his finger pointing at Xavier, Hayden was

interrupted by a big vase smashed at his feet.

Stunned, he scolded, “What are you doing? How dare an outsider like you come here and

throw your weight around? Do you intend to beat me to death? If you lay a finger on me,

I’ll make sure you go to prison for the rest of your life!”

Letting out a snort, Xavier retorted in an icy tone, “For trafficking a lady and trespassing

on someone’s home, who do you think will end up in jail?”

“What do you mean by trafficking?” Hayden thrust his chin forward as he swore, “Stop

spewing f*cking nonsense. That’s my wife you got there. If you know any better, you

better return her to me!”

While Hayden was speaking, he pointed his finger at Winnie, who stood behind Xavier.

Then, he instigated the crowd, “Go on. Take her back for me!”

With an icy glint flashing in his eyes, Xavier raised his hands and threw another vase at

them.

As the vase shattered into countless shards on the ground, it formed a natural barrier

between him and the mob.

His voice was cold, while his body exuded a dangerous aura. “Let’s see who dares to come

forward. I’ll make sure he rots in prison for the rest of his life.”

Given how intimidating Xavier was, none of the islanders were brave enough to approach.

Driven to desperation, Hayden smacked the man beside him on the head.

“What the hell are you afraid of? Charge!”

“Um, Mr. Briggs, that man has accused us of trespassing on private property. What am I

going to do if he really gets the police to arrest me?”

“Are you an idiot?” Hayden exploded. “Didn’t you say this is a holiday mansion owned by

your uncle? Since it’s your uncle’s house, what’s wrong with you entering it?”

“Oh, you’re right. This is indeed my uncle’s house. Since we’re relatives, I’m technically

not breaking the law.”

Winnie, who was enjoying the drama, was speechless. What sort of idiotic legal

interpretation is that?

Narrowing his eyes, Xavier gave his driver a look. “Give the landlord a call.”

While it was true he did not own the mansion and only rented it for the time being, he had

the right to use the mansion during the rental period.

Therefore, he did not mind using the most direct method to shut those fools up, who knew

nothing about the law.
